Can I be alone?!?
cnjashton replied to Heybrendacleo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only surgery I have had before was two c-sections and I healed fast but had to since I had a little one dependent on me. -
Can I be alone?!?
cnjashton replied to Heybrendacleo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am wondering the same thing...my surgery is next Wednesday and my husband is taking off work to be with me those 3 days while I am in the hospital plus then have the weekend at home helping me and taking care of the kids. He has to go back to work that Monday..I have already arranged rides to take my kids to and from school that week since I won't be able to drive most of the week, but I will be home alone for those 7ish hours. Do I need to try to get someone to stay with me....it would be like days 5-10? I also plan on going back to work the following Monday....am I living in a dream world? -
Help! Insurance changing to United Health Care on April 1
cnjashton replied to MaureenVA's topic in Insurance & Financing
I had the same thing happen on Jan 1st. and I had finished my 6 month visits in Dec....UHC accepted the 6 months I had done with Blue Cross Blue Shield and it all worked out! Only bad part was it's much worse insurance (blame my husband's company picking the plan) -
My surgery is a week from today and I woke up with a totally sore throat.....it's almost swollen shut. No fever or any other symptoms I am praying it's allergies. I called my surgeon's office today and OF COURSE didn't get a call back. I know most times surgery can't be done when you are sick but I also don't want to take my medicine since I was supposed to be off everything except my blood pressure meds 10 days before surgery After working so hard to get to this point since last May I do not want to be denied last minute!! Anyone know if it's okay for me to take allergy/cold meds? or any natural remedies okay for me to do? I am on the liver shrink diet so didn't want to even try honey

I am on Day two of the liver shrink diet....it's going better than I thought it would....then again talk to me on day 9 or 10 Anyone else doing this diet? I seem to keep reading most people doing the clear liquid diet

My surgery is March 18th and I am supposed to start my liver shrink diet Saturday....I have been stocking up on Protein shakes when I caught them on sale/coupons but I was planning on going shopping today/tomorrow for the rest of the food I need since I have had a hectic schedule but now we have like 4 inches of snow!!! Guess I will have to wing it with what I do have around the house!! Time to get creative!! Haha
-
Problem here is we get a little sleet or snow and the city shuts down! Stores are out of milk and bread and people go nuts. We have had 5 snow days already this year and now another one and probably more tomorrow. If it's not too bad tomorrow I will venture out to the store
-
Oh no @@heav85 I hope it clears up before her party!!! We already had almost a week of snow days and now this!

I am in Memphis we have gotten almost 4 inches so far! It's crazy!!

Telling people you've decided on WLS...
cnjashton replied to blashlee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's hard to decide who to tell. I of course told my hubby and best friend when I first started considering this plus two friends who have had bypass surgery and answered 500 questions before i even went to the initial meeting. I was going to wait and tell my family and some other friends until I got approved for surgery (no point in hearing all the feedback/worrying people if I didn't get approved) but I finally told them when they were trying to plan a family vacation the month I would be having my surgery and wouldn't take my polite no for an answer. I have only told my boss and one other close friend at work so far what I am having done. I am also having my hernia fixed so I am kind of sticking to that story for the rest of my co-workers for now. I am also a teacher so sent a note home to the parents just saying I was having surgery and the dates I would be out. I am not ashamed by any means just don't want any negative feedback (not that I have gotten any so far) I have several friends that have had it done...one posted off the bat on Facebook, one waited till her year-versary and announced it and the other still has yet to post. My sister is getting married in June and I am the matron of honor and I know I will be around a lot of family that will obviously notice so I am sure I will have to tell everyone then before that just a case by case basis I guess! -
I have the shakes and yogurt but only have grapes and carrots in the house for the kids lunches! Great tip on the chicken broth though I will have to remember that! I do a shake for Breakfast and lunch then small piece of fruit and 4 oz. of yogurt for 3 Snacks then dinner is 3 oz. piece of lean meat and steamed veggies. Plus non starchy veggies are unlimited! I am glad I am doing this rather than the liquid one pre op!

Congrats! You look great! Keep up the hard work!

So frustrated! Not covered 100%
cnjashton replied to Shan5311's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started this whole thing last May started my 6 months of visits and of course I didn't know how strict it was and my first one was in June then the doctor called to change it back a week which made it July 2nd so now July was my month one not June. Then about Nov my husband found out his company is changing insurance Jan 1st we panicked trying to get it all done before the year ended since we had already met my deductible but of course test results took forever so we could even apply to insurance so of course it was after jan before my advocate could submit. Now our insurance is way more expensive for worse coverage. I got approved but talked to financial last week and my part is over $2000 due the day of surgery! Once again panic mode I wish I had been told that on the front end!!! Still having the surgery March 18th but having to use our whole tax return plus clean out our savings!! So angry! -
I am actually having a hernia repaired during my surgery so I have been thinking about saying it's hernia surgery since that's not lying! Surgery is surgery and there are risks especially if your mom had a friend with troubles. I would just keep reassuring your man things won't change! Good luck with the liquid diet I start my liver shrink diet March 4th
-
I wish I had some advice for you! My surgery is in March too...my husband has been supportive all along but mainly b/c he wants his "hot wife" back. My family is just kind of ignoring it....haven't really said much about it. My mom finally did express she was concerned since it was a surgery and I am still her baby and she worries. The few friends I have told have been supportive but I have also been selective about who I tell. Still trying to decide what I tell people at work or if I tell them. I am so sorry you aren't getting more support maybe they are just worried about surgery in general and once the actual surgery is over they will be supportive! Good Luck

Four days until surgery and I'm a bundle of nerves!
cnjashton replied to #1Coltsfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a hernia too....my surgeon is going to repair it but also said lots to times in overweight people something might appear as a hernia but once they get in there it's really not. She said it's normal procedure to check for hernia and repair if found on each surgery. My surgery is March 18th so we will see! Good luck with yours!!! -
What to tell the children
cnjashton replied to foodfighter78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My kids are 8 and 13 and I explained it to them. Basically they know I have been dieting and working out for years and just keep getting bigger. So I just explained this will help me get healthy. My 8 year old daughter is special needs so doesn't quite get it but she does ask "mommy can you eat this?" I am doing my surgery over their spring break so they are more excited about getting to stay at their grandparents for 3-4 days than really caring about me having surgery! -
Congrats! Mine is March 18th!!!

I have a husband that can't cook and two kiddos 13 and 8 and I wanted to see what other moms (or dads who do the cooking) did for after their surgery? I know I won't feel like (or should) stand and cook right after my surgery. I was thinking about making some freezer meals ahead for them so my husband would just have to pop them in the oven or crockpot. Do I just get Cereal and sandwich stuff the kids can make themselves? Also while my family does eat healthy I know it will be weird cooking for them yet drinking my Protein shake during my liver shrink diet....should be interesting! Any tips for cooking basically "two meals" right before/after the surgery?
