Gas-X and pain meds help get you through the rough patches.
-
The second night, I was a gas release machine...lol. I feel a lot better now! I am still achey. But get this, my periods stopped for no reason six months ago. Now all of a sudden they are back! So a lot of my cramps and soreness is probably from that. Craziness! I am not sleeping well, since I can't lay on my stomach. I also had my first protein shake since surgery... But have no appetite. So I'm confused about the rule: "eat only when hungry". What if I'm never hungry? Need to get protein and nutrients somehow. Glad to hear you all are through surgery! Walk every hour...and that gas will eventually move out of your body. It really hurt...I still have a little left, but much better than yesterday. :-)

Had surgery on Tuesday (June 10th)...I am supposed to be on Protein shakes today...and for the next week. Problem is, I am not hungry! I have gone three days with no food...just Clear liquids...and was told only eat when hungry..stop when full. So, I'm not sure if I should drink a shake just to drink it....or wait until my hunger returns? I have bariatric chewable Vitamins I take. So I am getting some nutrition from that. I can swallow down clear liquids fine. Just no desire for food or Protein Shakes.. Anyone else like this after surgery?

How much did you lose on the pre-op diet?

32 pounds?! Wow! That's awesome! -
What if you are just not hungry?
Junebug36 replied to Junebug36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
B-52, it's a weird thing not to care about eating, even when I smell food. Pre-band I was literally salivating and so freaking hungry. Now...nothing. So how do you know when to eat if you have had no appetite for so long? I'll have to look into the protein shots... Who sells them? I should get biotin too. -

Yikes...I like my hair! I'm just not sure I can handle the thick shakes right now....maybe if I Water it down. Surgeon was big on getting Protein as soon as possible..hence the shakes starting days 2-10. I can eat mushies days 11-20. -
This is your time...own it! Enjoy this time for you. See if they have fun classes like Zumba...or kickboxing. Find something you enjoy and embrace it. Most gyms I have been in..there are people of all sizes. Be proud you are taking care of you...we are our own worst critics. Don't let negative thinking sabotage you! :-) You can do this!

So third day out...feeling much better..sore, but I got a lot of gas out last night..heh
-
I have no appetite either. Gas pains are starting to leave me...but my insides still ache. I can feel the port now... Which is weird and kinda alien to me. Walk as much as you can...it's the only way to get rid of the gas. I've been farting and burping all day! Haha.,,It's ridiculous.

Stay positive! You will be fine...you have support here no matter what :-). Good luck! -
Yay! So happy to hear it! Feels good to be on the other side, finally, doesn't it?

I wondered the same thing, cellibelli. Apparently you end up absorbing the gas. weird, I know. I'm feeling a little better now...sipping warm tea helps. I hope I'm past the worst part. I am still not hungry..at all. My stomach was growling for food on the way to surgery. Now, not a peep from it..lol.

Just survived hosting a lunch.
Junebug36 replied to Meredyth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm supposed to host a luncheon 10 days out. Nervous about it...the ladies coming think nothing of bringing high calorie, yummy food. I am secretive about my band as well...so any pointers would be great. I am only supposed to be liquids 10 days out...so I can't even eat mushies! Any advice? -
How much in fills did it take you to hit green zone?
Junebug36 replied to CTJohn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm curious about this too..doc primed my band in surgery yesterday with 5cc's! I have not felt hungry since. -
Good luck! Keep us posted! Excited for you! Like Betty said, you will do great :-)

My new beginning starts today!

Haha, thanks for the laugh plopez! I feel the urge to burp, but nothing comes out...ugh. Wish they could just suck the gas out when they are done. I get muscle spasms in my tummy muscles as well...I'm hoping this is normal. They don't last long. I'm really not sure what hurts worse..muscle spasms, or gas? I'm thinking this all gets better a week out. So glad you are home, weevie! -

Starting to get nervous...
Junebug36 replied to wonderpooh2u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was flipping out yesterday (surgery date) too..hard not to. The gas pain sucks, I won't lie. They should hook you up with great pain relievers after the surgery...I was given morphine while in recovery..helped immensely. I think the thing that freaked me out the most was a shot in my belly before going into the operation room. Something to stop blood clots. But you know what? I didn't even feel it. I'm am now on day 2 post band. Still have the gas pains, but gas-x helps...along with the meds. I have been sleeping in my recliner...it helps! Good luck to both of you!! -

Band is in...have gas pains something horrible.... But I'm not even hungry! The meds may be helping with that. Doc filled me to 5cc's already! No problems swallowing or drinking...it's mainly the gas, so I keep walking every hour for 15 min. Good luck bbyruth! I couldn't sleep a wink the night before. Now all I want to do is sleep. No desire for juices or broth right now. So now on to the the post diet.. Which may be easier than I expected with band in place. Fingers crossed and positive vibes your way, bbyruth! -

I'm hurting...ugh. Feel like I can't take a deep breath. Pretty out of it since I left the hospital. Everything looks good, though...doc took a pic of the band inside me...kinda gross. I should totally post it for all to see... Haha. I was in recovery most of day. Feeling better by the hour, but the gas pains are pretty bad. Thank god for the meds! I went in soooo hungry...but haven't been hungry since the operation. Doc filled my 10cc band with 5 cc's! I am having no issues swallowing or drinking... Amazing. Hope it stays this way! We will see how I do on mushies in 10 days. How is everyone? -

Junebug36 replied to Junebug36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought about chicken broth, but it lacks the amount protein the shakes have..so stuck with the shakes. They are making me constipated something horrible, though...so...lost 12 pounds total..maybe 13 by tomorrow morning (surgery day). -

Junebug36 replied to Weeviegurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear you are better, weevie! So happy to have found you all on here going through it at the same time :-). I am scheduled first thing in the morning...I will still be half asleep when they wheel me in! I'm ready to be done with the pre-op diet...not that the post op is any better...but I think I will have less hunger. I hope, anyway! A little less nervous, now. -

How are you, Weevie?! Hope you were able to get unswollen. I'm a nervous wreck... My surgery is first thing tomorrow morning! Ack -
I would lock up the (evil) scale and just get it out once a week at the same time...follow the rules, and count your calories/protein etc...exercise...it will happen, the scale will play mind games. It may be just Water weight as your body went through a huge change. Us women hold water on the drop of a dime (at least I do). As you workout, you may see gains due to muscle which is understandable. How do your clothes feel? Take measurements..you might be surprised!
