Possible restart of diabetes meds
bluesclues replied to gobsmacked's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I had to get back on Glucophage and have been taking it. I didn't take it like for a few weeks after surgery because wasn't eating much (it was only liquids and etc). When I started eating food, blood sugars got high so had to get back on it. -

@ I did, don't have insurance either (live abroad now, but parents live in LA so I was visiting them) and went to TJ....drove and parked at the airport and got picked up from there. -
So I'm 6 months out from VSG, and met a guy online a couple of weeks ago. I'll keep this story short So i've lost about 37 lbs and obviously look a lot better than before. So some background information, I was visiting home for 2 weeks and this guy lives in the same state, a few hours away. I live in a different country, planning on moving back home eventually (maybe next year). So I met this guy online and he knew I was in town for 2 weeks, so we literally exchanged a few emails, had phone convo, met for coffee which led to dinner. Went out again once more for the whole day (lunch, horseback riding, coffee, and dinner) and it was lovely. I'm diabetic and actually told him that already but didnt mention the surgery. He's noticed that I barely eat, and has commented and I wasn't comfy telling him about the WLS just yet. Only my family and a few close friends know. I know I will have to tell him eventually, but not sure when....of course if things get serious. Has anyone been in this position before? When did you feel comfortable telling someone you were dating? In my culture, diabetes or any major health issue is a HUGE thing (been rejected before because of that....can you believe that?!) so WLS would be a big deal as well. I know I should be with someone who will accept me the way I am and etc. but it's rare that I meet someone that I do hit it off with. Been on tons of dates prior to WLS and just wasn't feeling it for whatever season. ok sorry, babbling now. Guess I just needed to post this somewhere where people have gone through a similiar experience because obviously friends haven't gone through WLS. any advice/suggestions?

TAKING ORAL MEDS POST-OP
bluesclues replied to GEAUX SAINTS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a pill when I was a day or two out of surgery. I wasnt able to crush it because when I did, I would gag (almost threw up). Take it with Water and you should be okay IMO. Ask your doctor but I was fine. -
I got mine over summer break and it was great because I had a lot of time to heal and get the post op diet done with it. Def need a few weeks imo
-
Thanks ladies. Yes, I haven't had to work too hard but with my other medical issues, now that has been struggle. I started with a lower BMI as well, but I def. need to be healthy now and for the future as well. And yes, I'm not letting the "skinny" comments get to me. I just want to be healthy at the end of the day

Help, please! Premier Protein shakes taste awful to me.. Need recommendations!
bluesclues replied to blissfulbeing's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I find diluting with a little bit of milk and adding SF Hazelnut syrup (1 tbsp) makes it really nice. Try adding some SF syrups? -
Type 1 diabetic looking into this surgery (need advice ♥)
bluesclues replied to MandieClick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check the Diabetic forum as well. I'm T1 and have PCOS and fibro as well. My surgery was in July, best decision ive ever made! I've lost 37 lbs and my basal has been cut in 1/2. I'm still taking glucophage but thats for my PCOS/hormones, but in general my blood sugars have gotten a lot better, A1C as well. I'm back to my college weight and it's great. Any questions, feel free to ask -
Not sure if I said it earlier but he totally knows something is up because we spent the whole day together and I barely ate anything. He commented and was like, "you barely ate anything" and I didn't feel comfy telling him on the 2nd date. We've been talking a lot more and I think the next time I do see him, I'll tell him. Def feel okay telling him now. Thanks for sharing @@hadouni

Dr Corvala Lopez in TJ...i think i paid $6500...best decision I ever made....def recommend him and the nurses were amazing and so was the hospital had issues w/ my diabetes but that would have happened anywhere b/c of my pump and etc -
Thank you ladies for responding! I do believe in being honest but not on the first couple of dates. I think I need to spend more time with him and bring it up soon because he totally noticed how I eat like a bird :S

Any teachers out there? Mixed emotions!
bluesclues replied to mchap25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a teacher as well and got it last year in July and it was great because I had the entire summer to get better and figure out diet and recover. It took me at least a month to recover....2 weeks wasn't enough for me. -
Too Small For Surgery
bluesclues replied to FOXYLADYA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was smaller than you when I got it done. I'm 5'4 and was 184 lbs which is like 32 BMI, but I have diabetes, PCOS and it's the best thing I've ever done in my life (besides LASIK) lol It's been difficult losing weight my entire life, but it still is because of my diabetes but I've still managed to lose 37 lbs and it's been 6 months. I could never lose that much weight on my own, even when I was younger, eating healthy and working out every day. What everyone said above, find another nutrionist, if not, go with what the doctor says. You don't want to weigh more and get other health issues (if you don't have some already). GOOD LUCK -
the hair extensions aren't too heavy for your hair? I want to get some as well but worried that'll it make my hair even thinner when I take them off or try to maintain them.

Heading to TJ next week?
bluesclues replied to OCSlim's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Oh you'll love it! I went to Dr. Corvala there and the hospital and staff were amazing! Good luck -
I have to use Splenda b/c I am diabetic, and I didn't like stevia or the other types of artifical sweetners. I don't think its affected my gut.

Do You Really Need Vitamin D?
bluesclues replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I don't believe that it's only from WLS, I've had low Vit D levels prior to the surgery and was taking a rx dose of it....and now, still do. That hasn't changed -
Does everyone experience hairloss?
bluesclues replied to mechidallas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 5 months out and have lost a TON of hair....more hair then weight loss....it's really scary because I already have very thin and fine hair. All I can do is use Toppix to cover up the thinning areas. It's normal after surgery apparently and no Vitamins or anything can help. I'm thinking of getting hair extensions, but might not be a good idea b/c still losing a ton of hair daily -
carrots with hummus, cottage cheese, string cheese with fruit, greek yogurt, almonds
-
I have it once in awhile as a treat but make sure there's a ton of ice in there so it waters down. It doesn't bother me...but I don't want to start drinking it all the time but like once or twice a month my doctor said was fine.
-
I was wondering....do most of you eat the yolk when you hard boil the eggs? I've been only eating the egg white but was wondering if it's better to also have the yolk. Thoughts?

bluesclues replied to Hungry Caterpillar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm about a month ahead of you and Ican have everything. The only thing that makes me feel nauseaus is egg yolks, so I'm only having egg whites. Just got all my blood work done and everything is good, although I'm really tired and haven't been working out much this past week. Also, craving chocolate -

bluesclues replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went overseas 5 weeks post op (live overseas and went back home for the surgery. It is difficult because they dont have that many options over here but i have Protein powder and everywhere i go i can buy chicken, cottage cheese, etc. take Protein Bars for the plane, powder and bottle to mix it and u'll be fine. Oh and I miss crystal light. Take some of the travel sized ones to put in Water. You'll be fine.
