I am one of the most sensitive people that I think that God created. I cry if I am happy, sad, I find something poetic in everything and that even makes me more emotional. I say this only to say this...... Once I was banded then and only then did I learn why I was obese. I am an emotional eater. I am not sure how one feels that suffers from mental illness BUT right after the surgery I think I have an idea. I found myself in such a depressed state because I had NO outlet for my problems. I would feel sad...couldnt eat!! I would feel happy...couldnt eat!! The days of jumping in my car and getting a "bite" to eat just to be alone was over...I learned after the banding that it was not the alone time I was craving..it was that "comforting bite" that I needed. Things are much better not...it has been 1 1/2 years and each day I am learning about myself and just how I got to be obese...but with every negative thing I learn, I am finding out just how special I am and how strong I have became. Huggs, Shirley

I was banded June 2005. Dr. Spivak and his staff is awesome not just the surgical skills but the support that is given afterwards. Besides having my two children, this surgery is the greatest thing I have ever done. It has changed my life!! Dr. Spivak June 2005 Minus 103 pounds -

If you are like me you have a slight bit of discomfort when you push on the port site...well the fill is not even that much of discomfort. My physican has me lay back on a table, he inserts what apears like a "butterfly" in the post, they will draw out any fluid that you may have just to see if you have in what you are suppose to, then they pull up the saline and insert it in the catheter "butterfly". Before you leave they will have you drink water to be certain that you are not toooo tight. You will do well!! Huggs, Shirley

I totally agree with Alex. I am not sure what weight / size your spouse is but I was unable to get into 30-32. Anything over that size is soooo hard to shop for. I say prepare for her to do some serious shopping, It is such an awesome feeling to actually go into a store and pick up something and say...I will take it!! Huggs and good luck to yall.....Shirley
