I had my surgery in June and my Mom is still making me nutty. My hubby and Dad are really supportive. But my Mom and Sister-in-law drive me batty. Both are very overweight and know I have struggled for so long. But it's like this was a personal attack on them that I had this surgery and am losing. I've been having some problems with vomiting here and there and when my daughter (who is 10 and totally proud of me) says anything to my Mom about how worried she is when I'm not feeling well gets "Well your Mom made a bad decision and now needs to live with it." Nice, huh? I have learned to shrug it off instead of blowing up. And my daughter has stopped saying anything to Grandma because she herself supports me. If you have to keep them out of it. DO IT! Make your life easier and don't let others get you stressed or discouraged! Best of luck to you!

Why can't I lose? :'0(
KrissySMD replied to Whathereagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I feel ya! I lost pretty consistently for 4 weeks and have stalled myself. But I cheated and weighed myself this morning (I usually wait till Tuesdays) and finally looks like I have lost some. I'm tired easy too and my migraines are acting up which really does not help. But I'm trying to keep the faith and do the best at what is required. I've also decided not to beat myself up. If you know you are doing your best, then pat yourself on the back and keep on going. We can do it! Take care! -
I understand that we are not supposed to drink 30 min before and after meals. I've seen the YouTube video that explains it. But is anyone having serious trouble not drinking DURING meals? I am really having a very hard time. How can you eat oatmeal without milk and not choke? Or enjoy a summer meal outside without getting over heated? Any ideas?

Drinking during meals

Never heard of the ice chips thing before! I'll try that next time I am outside and too hot. Good idea! -
7 weeks out and even drinking a bit of wine! Still losing and doing pretty well. Having some problems eating as slow as I need to but I'm learning. Protein still not perfect every day. Using My Fitness Pal religously to try to keep track. Helps with fluid intake and exercise too. Had to get new bras this week and it was actually FUN for once. Staying positive on the little things!

What are you eating?
KrissySMD replied to PrettyGal27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on regular foods now as well. My surgery was June 3rd. I've mostly been sticking to high Protein stuff like chicken. I've made filet minion (sp?) kabobs too. But I find that I have to eat soooo slow it's sort of annoying. And getting all my protein in is not easy. Yes, I have tried some regular stuff like Cheetos Puffs (1/2 of a serving). And still lost 2lbs that week. Just have to be sure to log it and be careful. I've even started drinking some wine. 6oz of white is about 7carbs. But again, I log it. I use My Fitness Pal religiously. It's the only way I can keep track of things as well as STAY on track. I tried to eat a very small salad from Noodles yesterday and really only got the chicken down. High Fiber foods still don't sit well. I think it's trial and error at this point. HUGE learning curve. Hope that helps a little. Also hope more people post stuff. Stealing ideas is the best thing from this site! Best of luck! -
I'm finally not too nauseous too often! But it took a good 6weeks to get there! If I eat too fast, I will still have problems. But it's soooo much better. I honestly did not think it would ever end. But I was reassured here and it was so true. I envy the people that do not have any problems with tummy upset. But I think the majority of us do. You'll be past it and will look back and realize it was only a short time. Good luck!

Don't be discouraged! The same happened to me. My sleeve was done 6/3/14. Then I was stuck for about a week. Then BAM I'm down like 5 lbs in one week! It'll get better. Just keep the faith. Best of luck!

What did you tell your children?
KrissySMD replied to livingmore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I told my 10yr old once I had a surgical date. My hubby and I sat down with her and explained it all. Also took questions from her. She's very attached to me. So I had to be honest. I asked her not to talk at school. That I would tell the moms that I thought were loving and supportive. I was dead on except for one who has not spoken to me. But thats ok. I know she'll come around. My daughter has been a great motivator, getting me moving and watching my diet. She's very proud of me. Plus, she wants me to do it all in Orlando this fall. -

Good for you! You look fantastic! -
I ignore the calorie thing at the end by not hitting that I'm done logging. It automatically starts a new day for you next day. I'm anal about that app. Be sure you set your own goals based on what your nutrition experts say. You can change it as you go. And I love that you can scan items bar codes for easy entry! **My Fitness Pal** for sure!

So I had my surgery on June 3rd. Was doing pretty well till about a week ago. Ended up dehydrated over this past weekend and landed in the hospital for 3 days because I kept vomiting and having diarrhea. They did a barium study to look for any strictures and found none but did find that I have horrible reflux. Now I'm home on a clear liquid only diet. What do I do for Protein??? I cannot get a hold of my surgeon's office. I was admitted to a local hospital, not where I had my surgery. And they do not do bariatric there. I am lost! Can anyone give advice? Thanks so much!

Clear liquid protein

Thank you all for your kind responses. I finally got a hold of my surgeon. She wanted me to start soft food again to see if would help with my nausea. It has! I'm eating slowly every 2-3 hours. Doing better. -
Clear liquid protein

Isopure makes me gag. Even diluted. I have some of the new way in grape. I'm diluting that big time. It's a good thought on whether I should be doing protein at all. Hope the doctor calls soon. Thanks for the input. -

Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

Hi friends! I was sleeved June 3rd. Stinkville for me last week. Got really dehydrated and ended up in hospital. 3 days and I'm still here. Cannot keep anything but water and broth down. And even that's a challenge. Having an upper GI tomorrow. Ugh! Just boosted from pureed to soft food and now this. Fingers crossed there are no strictures in there. -
I know we are supposed to pace ourselves when eating, and I am. But after just a small bite, I am feeling full and gassy. Sometimes even really nauseous. And it makes it really hard to get my 64oz of Water in. (I know I am always complaining about fluids). Any one else?

Ended up in the ER today due to dehydration. I've been feeling miserable for a few days. Called doc about continuing retching. Sure enough, not getting enough fluids. Got a liter of fluid and ended up admitted anyhow. The IV is helping. Was finally able to get some broth down. Gonna be here till tomorrow at least. -
2 week post op! 30 min drinking rule s**ks!
KrissySMD posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi June sleevers! My surgery was June 3rd and my 2 week post op visit was yesterday. All good. I've lost 20lbs and have been upgraded from pureed to soft food! AND I don't have to crush pills anymore (thank goodness). My visit went well then I got home and had flu like symptoms for hours. Couldn't keep anything in. Don't know what that was about. Now today I'm having a hard time again. Went for a great walk this morning before all the crazy storms hit Chicago. Then I REALLY wanted a good drink of Water. As we all have learned, that's not quite possible anymore. So I sipped and sipped and felt overheated and icky. All day I've had problems getting Protein in. At last count after dinner I only have 42grams. I cannot even think of a shake right now. I made tilapia for dinner with some greek yogurt and it was fabulous. But now I have to wait the required 30 minutes to drink and all I want is water. I know this is quite a journey. But I actually find the hardest part to be this liquid thing. 64oz a day. Sipping only. NOT drinking before or after a meal for 30 minutes. This is HARD. Anyone else going nuts over this?! -

Movinon, I understand your being scared. It's a big deal. But now that you have the date try to be positive! The support you get here is like nothing else. We've been there. It gets better. You'll do great. -

Had surgery June 3rd. I'm still having problems with fluid intake and getting my protein in. Doing my best every day. Still tired. But working through it. My doctor and dietician say I'm doing pretty well although they think I might be dehydrated. Forcing a liquid is not easy. But I'm trying to sip during the day best I can. Good luck to everyone!
