My surgeon told me that the waiting period is for the insurance company to see that they aren't wasting money...that you can show are fully aware of and committed to the lifestyle changes you will have to make post-surgery. While there was no set amount of weight loss required, I was told that if I gained weight in those 3 months the insurance company was likely to rescinded final approval.

In the new app...much better!

I'm having one of those moments where I wonder how the heck I have a doctorate degree when I can't figure out an app So, I've posted a few times and that's great but sometimes when I come back on one of the icons in the line of icons along the bottom will have a red number on it. When I press it I am taken to a list of the posts I've made and to the far right of each post there is a gray number. What the heck is that? Did someone comment on it? Like it? If I click on that post all it does it take me back to the original thread where there are no additions. Clearly I'm missing something. What am I being notified about? Thanks!

I need to vent/psych question
LynnRinKY replied to ladymare's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I promised myself I wouldn't respond but...oops. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (and Professor) who works with active duty service members. I just wanted to address several concerns. First, there is a HUGE difference in degrees and their associated qualifications. Do your research. Second, it is unethical to refuse to see someone for being atheist and if that person is actually licensed in psychology, social work or counseling, I would personally contact their state board. Third, there are no national standards in our field for pre-WLS evaluations. It is generally left up to each individual person what they do, within reason. Certain questions have to be answered for insurance companies and surgeons. So, when having one done, refer back to my first point Fourth, if therapy is recommended, remember my first point as well as the fact that every practioner has their own style. Consider finding a therapist like finding a new sofa...you want to find one that you are comfortable with- one that seems to match your personality style and the way you like to do things. If you hate worksheets and homework, you should not see someone who considers themselves cognitive - behavioral. It's ok to 'try one out'. Any good one should expect that and agree that a preliminary 2 or 3 sessions to see if you mesh. Fifth (and then I'll shut up), be extra careful with online therapy. Do extra homework. It's very controversial in our field and there are not many ethical guidelines covering it. There are many potential pitfalls because we are licensed by individual states. Each state has its own requirements in order to practice so if I'm licensed in KY can I really treat someone living in FL??? It's too new for ethics to have caught up For those of you having bad experiences, I'm sorry. We generally are good people who make the best decisions we can with the information we have available. ..but, not all of us are making those decisions based on the same amount of education, training and/or experience. -
My surgeon actually requires we use Bariatric Advantage and of course they sell it out of the office. Not sure if they have a website but I know it's on Amazon.

No problem. Clearly there aren't people posting like crazy in here wanting the group to start. Meeting space...well, the library offers free meeting spaces. There are many branches to choose from. Crescent Hill is close to being downtown without having to go downtown (if you were thinking a weeknight) but the Bardstown Rd branch might be the most "central" in the city.

HELP PLEASE
LynnRinKY replied to irisheyesrsmylng 1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, you can! -
My place told me that by law an insurance company can't take any longer than 30 days...but the person that does their insurance says mine tends to be 2 weeks. You can always call the dr's office and ask for the insurance person. They should be able to tell you what they typically see with your insurance.

Do you miss anything about being Fat? (You're Old Body)
LynnRinKY replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just about to get a surgery date so I can't speak to regret...yet, but I do know what it's like to over research and over think things (I'm a damn psychologist- occupational hazard). What helped me was making what I called my "skinny list". I guess you could see it as similar to a pro's list. It has things like, "Fly on an airplane without the embarrassment of having to ask for a seatbelt extender or see the horror in the eyes of people walking down the aisle when they see you and momentarily fear they may have to sit next to you." and "Walk into a store, any store, and randomly buy something off the first rack I see just because I can..without having to go to a special fat person's store." Find what will inspire you! -

I think you hit a panic moment but don't let it sink you. You are still pre-op. If you ate a couple of cookies at their house it's truly not a huge deal considering you seem to be managing to keep all else on track, including exercise. This doesn't mean you will be a failure post-op. Remember, post-op you'll have the small stomach and appetite on your side. Plus, even then, there is a company www.protifoods.com that actually sell cookies. There are different types but they are around 90 calories, 1 gm fat, 4 carbs and 15 gm of protein. You could have 1 in an "emergency". Heck, they have a pizza, soups, etc. for those moments. The world is changing...there are tons of support options to help us! Hang in there -
Feeling Like My Surgery Is A LIFETIME Away
LynnRinKY replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a mandatory 3 month waiting/diet from my insurance company too. It ended last week! I should get the final ok and a date next week. Trust me, it goes by very quickly. I thought the same thing at first. As for food, honestly I fit in some "goodbyes". I still managed to lose 12 lbs. In fact, during my worst craving-filled month, I swear all I wanted was taco bell and chocolate for a week, I still lost 7 pounds. The dietician said it was because overall I was moving more and watching the rest of my meals. So...my advice is don't deprive yourself and don't overdo it. Find a balance. This is just the start of your new eating lifestyle so give yourself permission to ease into it right now. I anticipate I'll be in my 2 - week liquid pre-op period next week and don't feel like I'm really grieving any specific food anymore.
