miller replied to pandagirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Since I just had a breast augentation, I did not get into much else with him. I don't plan on more surgery. He does "body reconturing"....Sorry I can't answer your question. I can say that he is a very friendly man and his office staff is wonderful. Everyone is professional yet easy going. -

Cosmetic Surgery in the Sacramento,CA Area?
miller replied to pandagirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Although I haven't had any surgery yet, I do have a consultation next week with Dr. Hause (Plastic Surgery Sacramento - Sacramento Cosmetic Surgeon) for breast augmentation. I have heard from multiple sources that he is good. -
I know increased burping is common with this surgery BUT.... This week I was careless with my eating, mostly in the realm of not chewing, eating too fast. As a result, I Pb'd about 3-4 times over a a short period of time. Now my stomach is pretty swollen and I am having trouble eating and drinking. Goes down but it is not comfortable. food and Water are causing major, almost nonstop burping. Even water is not going down that easily. I will stay on liquids for the next couple days but what is up with all the burping....it is bad! Anyone experienced this after they have irritated their stomach? How long will it last?

Once you get to the right restriction ...you won't want to eat as much. Or I should say, you can't eat as much. Plan and simple... The restriction will take care of the portions and amount you can eat. The rest is up to you. I found that once I got to the right restriction my additute about food completely changed. I can't take a whole lot of credit for it, either. When our "Commitment Device" is working, it physically reminds you can't eat very much. Don't stress...After my 3rd fill....life was a whole new world for me with the band. Be patient!
-
Yes! The 3rd fill was where I got real restriction. Too much, actually. There was a real learning curve for a while. The bands have a mind of their own. If you are too tight, don't ignore the signs. After my 3rd fill, I lost 20 lbs in 2 months with no exercise. Although I loved the weight loss, eating was painful and I was barely eating anything. Not how the band was intended to be used. After two months, I had an unfill (2.4 to 1.2ccs). My stomach need to break. Now I am back up to 1.7cc. I feel great, my eating is within normal and healthy limits. Still losing weight but at a slower rate. Works for me. I was very uncomfortable for too long at 2.4ccs.

How long were you out of work?
miller replied to heidismiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course, everyone is different. I had surgery @ 2:00 on a Thursday and was back at work the following Tuesday. Probably could've gone back Monday but I was just a little slow moving...didn't want to push it. Mind you I was not late heavy, an active person, and relatively young. -
Doctors in Mexico - What are the risks?
miller replied to Long2BFree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All you need is passport. No registry. Waiting in line is the biggest inconvenience. However, your doctors staff will guide you through this process. They don't just leave you to your own devices. -
Doctors in Mexico - What are the risks?
miller replied to Long2BFree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Ariel Ortiz (Mexico) helped train the doctors at kaiser in No. California how to perform the surgery. I felt more comfortable going him because he had done so many surgeries, and a good reputation to boot. Lots of docs in the states are still new at performing this surgery. The docs in Mexico have been at it much longer. -
Don't get the fill. You will become unbearably tight. I speak from experience. I was at 2.1 and got a fill to 2.6. I was at that level for two months. I knew it would be tight at first but I thought that it would loosen up with weight loss. It DIDN"T. I grimed and bared it for 2 months at this level. Lost about 20 pounds in 2 months but I couldn't eat anything. Eating took a lot of time, was painful, and I think I was starving myself. The doc took one look at me under floro and said it was too tight. He took me back down to 1.2ccs. I need to give my stomach a break for a few weeks and then I will begin my journey to finding the sweet spot again. Moral of the story: Don't get greedy. 5lbs a month is healthy, great weight loss. Eating is painful when you are too tight.

This is probably a stupid question, but...

I find that feeling full with the band feels like it normally feels. The difference is that, when full, I PHYSICALLY CAN'T EAT ANYMORE. If I do...there will be consequences. Pre-band i would feel full and keep eating til I was stuffed. The band is my "committment device". -
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this scenario. I was banded 5.5 months ago. My 3rd fill put me at 2.6ccs, 2 months ago. After this 3rd fill, I have lost 20 in those two months. Although I am an active person, I have not implemented an exercise program. This seems like alot of weight since I am not exercising. People say that the band loosens after you with weight loss. I feel like I am having the opposite reaction. It seems to be getting tighter. I think I am in the PBing/swollen, irritated stomach cycle. I am nervous about slippage. I have an unfill scheduled but I want to see if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks!
-
Well, I went to Doc and, sure enough, I was too tight. Considering how difficult eating had become, I was happy to be unfilled. He took me from 2.4cc to 1.2cc. I know everyone freaks about being unfilled but I welcomed it. It will be nice to have a break and be able eat without restriction. I did have a day or two of panic like "what am I going to do? i don't have this tool to make me stop eating". But I happy to report that I am not the same person I was 5 months ago (preband). Food does not have the intensity it once did. Whoo-hoo! The doctor wants my stomach to take a break and I will probably get a fill in 3 or 4 weeks. My goal is to simply maintain over these few weeks. Any weight loss will be an unexpected bonus.

I vote lapband over gastric bypass. The advantage that gastric bypass proponents always tote is you loss weight faster. I have been banded 5 months and I have lost 40 pounds. I am relatively active but I have not participated in a an exercise program. How much faster do you want to loss weight? I am 100% satisfied with the speed of my weightloss and it still coming off. I know people who are 5 years into their gastric bypass and they have stretched their stomaches and have gained weight back. Lapband is soooo much less invasive and SAFE, not to mention reversible (if desired or needed). It is not without its challenges but, in my opinion, the much better option. Good luck!

If gas is what is what is causing you trepidation, then you will definitely freak when food gets stuck. It happens to everyone at some point. This surgery is worth it but there is a learning curve and some times of discomfort.

The journey of figuring out the band. There is an real learning curve and emotional adjustment. I have only been banded for 4 months and I am still learning what works and doesn't work. Good to ask questions, listen to you body and be patient. All kinds of quirky, weird stuff comes up. That is what is so great about this forum! Start:207 current: 180 Goal: 150 Fill level: 2.6 in 10 ccband

One thing that I keep in mind when i feel judged by myself and others for losing fast enough is that I AM NOT GOING TO REGAIN IT BACK. My tool won't let me. I have lost 22 lbs in 4 months. Although others may consider this slow, I don't...this is good. Pre-band, I would have fallen off my diet by week 3 and gained more weight. This is the 1st holiday season where I lost some weight. This tool gives me momentum....I love it. Others judging us don't see these little victories. Celebrate them! Be kind to yourself!

Chipotle is not a drive through but I would consider it "fast food". You stand in line...get your food fast. It can be a fresher, healthier choice.... I like it!

I was self-pay patient and I had my surgery in Mexico. I live in Northern California and I am a Kaiser member. Has anyone had success in getting Kaiser provide your aftercare if you didn't have your surgery with them? If so, what was the procedure? Was getting the approval for aftercare easy or difficult? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looking for a fill doctor in or near sacramento cal
miller replied to johnnyreno's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Someone on the previous page had recommended Dr. Helmuth Billy who has his main practice in Ventura and who also does monthly fill clinics in Truckee. I have gone to him twice now and highly recommend him. He is very approachable and affordable. I was banded in MX and he had no problems with that. It is about a 4 hour drive for me but it is worth it! The Ventura office # is: 805-648-2227 and the Truckee # is 775-588-4300. -
Dr L. Machado/sacbariatrics/program fee?
miller replied to Lana24's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
They make you get xray of the band at the hospital. They said the hospital charges $1800. What a rip off! But there are few options docs that do lap band aftercare in Sacramento. I am having to take jaunts to TJ to my fills. -
I have always had a sluggish colon. I found that Activa yogurt does the trick. I had tried everything!!! This stuff really gets things moving...
