  1. I know everyone's program is different, but my surgeon said at 4 wks, I can take regular vitamins, but to cut them in 1/2 until 8 weeks. I've started taking One A Day's gummies and I really don't mind them and will probably continue with them for now.

    Typical day's food

I'm just at 4 wks, but this is a typical day for me, although some days I can only manage about half of each meal: 8am Breakfast:1 Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt with 1 scoop of Protein powder 10am Snack: 1 Premier Protein shake 12pm Lunch: 3oz tuna with 1 Tbs. salad dressing or 3 Tbs of refried Beans, shredded cheese and 1 Tbs sour cream or ranch dressing 5pm Dinner: 3-4oz protein (shredded chicken, salmon, or ground beef, mixed with sauce or broth) If my sleeve is having an "off" day, I'll scramble an egg for supper instead ( I tolerate that best) and if I'm below my protein requirement, I'll try to add another 1/2-1 shake around 7pm. I have discovered that I lose more weight at 700-800 calories than I do at 400-600.

    June sleevers, check-in!

I hit an early stall when I moved to purees. It lasted 8 days. I was so frustrated because it didn't seem possible to not lose weight when I ate so little and it seemed too early for a stall. It finally ended and I'm moving on down. Hang in there, maybe you are just at your first stall.
  4. The other morning I gave a coworker a ride to work and she asked if we could stop at McD's to pick up breakfast. I ordered a breakfast burrito. When I got to work, I scraped the inside of the burrito (sausage, scrambled egg, cheese) into a bowl and discarded the tortilla. I was satisfied and it wasn't a huge cheat. Although it is not something I would want to repeat often, it is nice to know there are workable options out there when we find ourselves in a situation where fast food is unavoidable.

How do i know when im full?

I understand why you are asking, I can't really tell when I'm full either. I'm on soft foods, but feel a little uncomfortable from the 1st bite- same with purees. I took the recommendations on this site and make sure I measure out every meal, usually 3oz, and I don't always finish it. People talk about the burping, but sometimes I do that after one or two very small spoonfuls. I haven't learned to recognize the difference between a "full" burp and a "swallowed air" burp. I've just resigned myself to measuring- and trying to learn what "my" servings look like so when I do finally go out to eat, I can estimate a portion safely.

    Hiatal Hernia repair

I had a hernia repaired with my surgery. I think it made it a little more difficult to swallow for about a week after, but other than that, I don't think it made much difference in the recovery. My discomfort didn't seem to be any worse than those who just had the sleeve done. I had nightly acid reflux and frequent heartburn prior to the surgery and I haven't experienced it since. Very grateful for that!

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

Finally broke my 1st stall! I thought I had eaten too much the past couple of days, but I got on the scale this morning and I'm down 3lbs. Whew, waiting out that stall was frustrating! I don't know if it was just being patient, or upping my calories that did it, but I am so relieved. I didn't lose anything (and actually gained a pound) for 8 days. Hoping that things are back on track now and I can continue my journey toward a new me, and a new life. if you hit a stall, hang in there!

    Fitness tracker

Love my fitbit- however, I've noticed some inaccuracies with my activity and sleep. I've been doing the Leslie Sansone "Walk away the Pounds" fitness program and it misses a lot of my steps. It also overestimates my sleep time. I think this is because I tend to lie very still while awake, instead of tossing and turning in bed. That being said, I really love the ease of logging my food and love keeping track of my calories in vs calories burned. It is also comfortable to wear, stays charged for days, and syncing with my phone and computer is effortless. A big plus was that my health insurance provider has an option to link my fitbit to their "vitality" points award site and I can earn gift cards and discounts through reaching goals.

    Pain - Stomach or Incision?

I don't have an answer, but the same question. I'm almost 3 weeks post-op and having a "strange" pain, a few inches from my main incision site. I went through all the normal pains and soreness, but those have gone. This one is new, started yesterday and is worse today.
  10. My doc said not to use advil on a regular basis, but occasional use should not hurt my sleeve. He advised using only the advil liqui-gel caps. I take benadryl almost every night, for allergies AND to help me fall asleep. It also helps prevent the morning nausea from drainage that I tend to have this time of year.

    June sleevers, check-in!

I'm in a stall as well. It's disappointing, but reading the posts in this forum have helped me stay calm. I've decided not to weigh myself until next week and to try and walk as much as possible. Hoping to see some downward movement next week! Sleeved June 12th HW 285 SW 272 CW 257
  12. A friend suggested ginger tea sweetened with stevia or splenda-but like you, I am going to miss ginger ale and saltines!
  13. We've been having to travel a bit since I had surgery. Wendy's chili is a good choice. I've also had Subway's tuna salad- they looked at me a little odd when I asked them to hold the bread, but I explained about the surgery and they cheerfully put it in a salad bowl for me.
  14. I'm back at work after one week off and regretting it. I didn't want to use all my sick or vacation leave and came back against my doctor's advice. By the end of the day yesterday, it was all I could do to walk to my car and drive home. I was in bed by 6. Getting my protein and fluids in was the last thing on my mind and I'll have to work really hard to get them in today, especially since I anticipate a repeat of yesterday. I'm usually pretty stoic and I almost never miss work due to illness. I overestimated my resilience and wish I had taken at least 2 weeks before trying to return to work full-time.

    Outpatients? No overnight stay

I was not outpatient, but I wish I had been. The day following my surgery, I begged to be released and they grudgingly obliged (my surgeon usually requires a 2 night stay). I felt so much better once I was home and able to manage my own pain medication, get up and walk without having to deal with the iv tubes, go to the bathroom without waiting for a nurse to assist me, etc.

    Baked Beans and other foods...

Zucchini lasagna is a great substitute for spaghetti. Replace the noodles in your favorite lasagna recipe with thin slices of zucchini. Even my Pasta loving husband doesn't mind the substitution. On my pre-op diet, I discovered that cauliflower chopped fine in the food processor makes a decent substitute for rice (I made a delicious and inexpensive spanish rice with ground beef). It also makes a good base for many saucy dishes (I used it under beef stroganoff and while it wasn't as delicious as egg noodles, it was satisfying). I stock up on bags of frozen cauliflower when it is on sale.
  17. Today is my 1st day back at work, 11 days post-op and I'm regretting it! Unfortunately, because I boldly dismissed concerns that I wouldn't be fit to return so quickly, no arrangements were made for extra coverage so I have to tough this out. It's only 10:30, I'm exhausted and my large incision hurts. I am an admissions officer at a community college and consider my job very sedentary. I didn't realize just how many times I get up to go to the printer, to assist a student, etc. I'm not as sedentary as I thought! Then, there is the exhaustion. I could lay my head on my desk and take a nap. My advice to those who have the option of taking more time off is... take it! If anyone has returned to work quickly after surgery and has any tips to offer, they would be appreciated. It is going to be a very long day!

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

I was sleeved June 12th (one week today) and see my surgeon tomorrow to remove my staples. I have a LOT of staples. I have 4-5 in each of four small incisions and 9 in the large one. I didn't expect all these staples, i though the smaller incisions would be glued. I'm nervous about having the staples removed, my incisions are still very sore, though not infected. Does it hurt when they remove them?
  19. Way to go, you look great! I'm on day 7 and struggling, but seeing your photos gave me the encouragement I needed today. Thank you!
  20. I absolutely hate it, too! My doctor said 1 hour. Sometimes I have to go rinse my mouth out after a meal. I'm on mushies and tuna is the easiest for me to tolerate, but I can't stand to taste it for an hour after I eat. I really miss drinking with my meals. I find myself going for a protein shake, just so I don't have to "eat" without drinking. They say you get used to it, I sure hope so!

    insides ripped out

I had mine removed last Friday and I felt the same way.It should get better by tomorrow. Hang in there and call your doctor if the pain doesn't subside.
  22. By your screen name, it looks like you live in Ky? I'm also on Day 4 and in Ky. I'm sneezing like crazy and thinking with my allergies, it might have been prudent to have the surgery in the winter. I don't think I've lost a staple, but after reading your post, I'm going to take a closer look at mine!

THIS is how the first 4 weeks go...

On day 4 (post-op) and have spent the past 3 hours trying to get through a protein shake (I'm a little over halfway there at best). Glad to know I am not alone in my struggle and that I'm not a complete failure!

    Less than a week!

My surgery is next Thursday, June 12th. I got a new, super-short pixie cut last weekend and I'm looking forward to a new and improved body to go with it! I work in an admissions office on a college campus and it seems like there is a potluck for a baby shower, a retirement, or birthday every week. It's been hard to resist all the goodies, but I just keep telling myself the sacrifice will be worth it.

    Any 2014 June Sleevers

June 12th! I am so excited about starting a new chapter in my life. I began the pre-op diet today. They said they would like to see a 10lb loss before surgery. I'm going to give it my best shot!
