  1. I'm going in for my gastric sleeve op tomorrow at Imperial by Ahmed Ahmed. Anyone heard of him? I've done lots of research and he seems very experienced... so I have no worries about that. I've been on a pre op diet for the last 3 weeks - managed very well because I knew it was three weeks! Biggest worry is that I just bought a new pair of scales and discovered that the old ones were "weigh out" (geddit) by about 3 stone! So, all the imagining I've been doing on the idea of losing 25% of my body weight has been wrong and takes me to only a little under what I thought I was already. I'm still going to go for it but I wondered about this 25%? The psych that I saw said people are more likely to keep the weight off if they stick and maintain what the op loses for them... I want to be lighter than 25%... any thoughts?
  2. Although I love all the US help on offer on this site, I'm really looking for a UK based buddy or mentor. I've had my sleeve since 27th May and am getting on well with it. Just today, I've moved to soft food and know that the journey ahead to my goal weight is a long and exciting - would love to hear from other UK based sleevers. Since starting my pre-op diet at the beginning of May, I've lost 42lb. Look forward to hearing from you. All the best Claire

    Follow up

I had a follow up with the surgeon 10 days after my op - he took my staples out and said I could come off most of my meds and start with pureed food. I'll be seeing him in another 3 months. Interested to know about the support group - what part of London is it in? For those that are self funding, I would call the surgeon and staff as often as I felt necessary - that's essentially what we've paid for!
  4. I've just started on the puree, end of the week. I was a bit cavalier at first (and think I had my first dumping)... but realised the trick is to have bland and very pureed at first. Today is the first day I feel I've done it right; for lunch I had, 4 teaspoons of dahl (bland home made), 2 teaspoons of mashed potato and same of pureed broccoli. I had the same for dinner because it worked plus 2 Protein shakes, a yoghurt and a vegetable juice. And in between that, all my Water... it's felt like a full time occupation! But I've got make sure I'm on track - I'm going back to work on Monday! The good news is that the liquid doesn't last forever. Keep us posted as to how you get on. It's an amazing feeling, right? I'm definitely in the euphoric stage. I can't believe that I've lost all this weight and there is more to come!
  5. Hi, from London UK... I had my sleeve on the 27th May. Been really great so far (although I didn't like the morphine type stuff they gave me in hospital). I was on a pre op diet for 3 weeks before surgery and have lost the grand total of 27lbs so far! Not been too much to complain about although last night I think I had dumping syndrome - anyone else had it? What was it like? I'm on the pureed diet now - and had 4 teaspoons of hummus - OMG - not pleasant! Can you add me to this list, it seems such a great way to get support and support others. All the best Claire
  6. Well! 10 days on and I can't believe how great I feel. Had the follow up appt. Staples gone and onto pureed food. Yesterday was first day - tried weetabix (lovely), avocado and cottage cheese (tasted nice but gave me cramps because it wasn't ripe enough), mashed potato (heavenly), mashed broccoli (alright) and a tiny bit of bolognaise (not so good). Later on, I had some hummous - wow! I think I had my first dumping syndrome! All cold and hot and very very gassy, then several toilet trips later felt very tired. Is this common? Was it because of the food? Or more likely that I tried to eat to much? Today I am going to stick to bland food and see how I get on - would very much like not to feel that horrid sensation again. And I can't thank you both enough for messaging me - it made me feel very safe in hospital knowing that I would be able to ask you questions - so thank you very much. Since starting the pre-op nearly 5 weeks ago, I have lost just under 2 stone! That's a result, surely! All the best Claire
