How much could you eat 2 weeks post op?
TonyaNKy replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's been 2 hours since I ate and I feel just fine. I won't be doing that again though. I'm scared to death as it is that I might pop a staple or something. -

I will do that from now on. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. I guess I wasn't. I hope I haven't done any damage. :-( -

I wasn't told to measure anything. I hope I haven't hurt myself. I feel like I've been starving on soup and liquids. -

TonyaNKy replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No pain and I guess it took me about 20 minutes. I chewed the beans to mush before swallowing but I ate the whole can which is 1 and 1/2 cups. Up to this point I've been eating soup. -
Blogging, my mother, my guilt and me
TonyaNKy replied to tiredmama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Food was the only pleasure I had in life. My ex made me believe I wasn't worthy to live anyway so I didn't care what the food was doing to me. I had written out a will on more than one occasion. I was so brainwashed by him that I thought if I killed myself he and my son would have a better life. Thank God I woke up and left him. -
Any food addicts out there with OCD tendencies?
TonyaNKy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I was fit and healthy years ago, I had some OCD tendencies. Cleaning a little obsessively, among other things. When I started to abuse food to cope with a bad marriage, I lost those tendencies. Well, guess what's back after 17 years. I'm starting to see those tendencies again. Nothing extreme, you know, like washing my hands 12 times in a row but still... -
Were u always overweight or become as an adult?
TonyaNKy replied to marfar7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was never a fat child or teen. I started gaining weight after I had my first child at age 28 (I'm 44 now). I haven't been under 200 pounds since he was born in 1998 and I have steadily gained over the last 16 years, despite trying everything to lose weight. -
What month did you first try carbonated drinks?
TonyaNKy replied to Unhappysleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's the carbonation that I love so much. I'm not a fruity drink lover either. I'm trying to imagine going to the movies with my husband and having water with my popcorn. Yuck! It's either water or something like powerade. Double yuck. Maybe since I only get to go to the movies twice a year I'll get a coke icy or something like that. This whole journey would be so much easier if I liked sweets or sweet drinks. :/ -
What anyone chooses to do is their business. I asked the question simply to understand the other side. It just seems like it would be a constant chore to have to lie every time someone said, 'Wow! You look great! How did you do it?!' Of course it's OK if that's the route someone wants to take. It is also OK to ask questions to gain a better understanding of someone's situation that they choose to share on an open forum.

I mean, does one feel the need to hide it so they can feel superior as if they did it themselves without help? To gain accolades from their peers? Does one feel ashamed because they had to go to such drastic measures to gain control of their weight? I'm just trying to understand why lying is a better option for anyone because I've always lived my life as an open book.
-
Okay. That's not my experience. I was happy to share with everyone in my life and so I asked the question because I don't understand why someone would want to keep it a secret. Trying to understand the other side if that's okay with you. Lol
-
I haven't experienced that yet but I would say it's because you just divorced yourself from food. That's how my therapist explained it. A literal divorce from food.

I don't understand why anyone would want to hide it in the first place. Is it something you're ashamed of?

Blogging, my mother, my guilt and me

Mine comes from 9 horrid years of a 12 year marriage that I walked away from 7 years ago. I was never an overweight child, never an overweight teen, but when I became emotionally and mentally abused, I self medicated with food. -
Healing with a 2 year old?
TonyaNKy replied to GottaDoSomethin''s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon said no lifting more than 25 pounds for 3 weeks. I had two c-sections back to back. I had my daughter in January of 2010 then my son in January of 2011 at ages 39 and 40, respectively. I would rather do that again than this. This was far worse to me than the c-section. -

I was the worlds worst diet Mountain Dew addict there ever was. I could go through a 24 pack in about 3 days by myself. I have had this addiction since I was 18! I'm now 44! I think, though this is pure speculation, that the chemicals in it induced my autoimmune disease. So, I'm going to stay away from it now that I've broke myself from it. Whether it induced my autoimmune disease or not, it's still unhealthy. -
I couldn't wait to get home. I had to stay one night but I did everything I could to ensure I could go home the next day. I have a Tempurpedic bed and the head and foot raise so I was dying to get home to my comfy bed. It's spoiled me so badly that I hate even staying at a hotel.

My kids are 1, 3, and two 4's. I had to have help for a week doing just normal stuff for them. After that I took over except for putting my 3 year old to bed because he's still in a crib. No lifting for three weeks or you could get a hernia. -
Dr. Weiss did my sleeve and I love him! He's very thorough, he's never had a death in 11 years of practice. I'm happy to answer any questions. I just had my sleeve May 21st. One thing I would like to strongly suggest is that you stay on top of the nurses to walk you and use your spirometer. My nurses would have never walked me had I not asked them to. Walking is essential to your recovery.

How long before you could eat popcorn again?
TonyaNKy replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for the replies you guys. It's just the one thing we enjoyed doing together that we actually could do together. My husband is so supportive that he won't eat it without me even though I told him it wouldn't bother me. -

Well, I'm only 10 days out so how long before I can actually consume it safely? Or on average how long? -
What dish or restaurant do you miss the most?
TonyaNKy replied to kdotson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Right now since I'm only 10 days post op and can't eat it, I'm missing my favorite Chinese restaurant. The place I go to is so authentic, there are more Chinese people eating in there than white. My husband and I used to get it every weekend. When I get to the point to where I can eat what I want, I'll get my Chinese again but I'll just be eating smaller portions. -
I guess all surgeons are different. Mine said a minimum of 70 but shoot for 100.
