19 months out and a leak!
TonyaNKy replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I asked about the coffee and tea because the tannic acid in both eats the lining of our stomachs. So I wondered if that might have contributed to the leak. I know there are people out there that drink 10 cups a day and have had no problems with their sleeve. Just like there's some 100 year old guy out there that has smoked non-filtered, hand rolled cigarettes since he was five. My mom took Prilosec for years because she had awful reflux and stomach pain. As soon as she quit drinking coffee she never had another problem with her stomach. Never took another Prilosec. -
Anybody else feel hungry often or am I the only weirdo
TonyaNKy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have the restriction. I can eat 2oz or 3 of chicken and feel full. But a couple of hours later I'm hungry again. I thought it would get better after I started eating more protein. I'm still not eating over 700 calories a day. -

Thanks for all the replies! It puts things into perspective for me. I don't feel like the weirdo anymore :-) -
Seems like I have more issues eating in the mornings than at night. I tend to get queasy no matter what I eat. Anyone else have this problem?

Day 2 pre op. I am the biggest b***h alive?
TonyaNKy replied to Jersrose43's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeons only requirement for pre op diet was no carbs or sugar. We could eat our fill of meat, cheese and nuts. He didn't want us to lose weight but to shrink our liver to make access to our stomach easier. I still got irritated though because I couldn't have any comfort foods like potatoes or bread. When you rely on food to put you in a better mood, this is the result. I found that out the hard way. Me and my poor family did. -
Did you wait a year before your first consult?

I'm wondering because I know some people reach goal before their one year mark. -

I see. I've had breast implants before. Like, 20 years ago and they need to be replaced for certain. Back then I did the consult but didn't get the surgery for 3 months. Things have probably changed by now but I wondered if it would be the same in this case. -

I'm talking about plastic surgery consultation. -
Do you live close to TJ? I have heard many good things about having plastic surgery there but I'm in Kentucky and wondering how I would do so far away from home and how I would get back.

Family NON-Support
TonyaNKy replied to embracing skinniness's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My mom tried to talk me out of it. My husband is super supportive. However, if I had done this when I was married to my ex, I wouldn't have gotten anything but lip. I had talked to his grandmother about it and she said, Well, I think wls is just a cop out. God, that made me so mad. Thank GOD that family is out of my life!! -
I dont know what to be.. Proud or disappointed.
TonyaNKy replied to jack35's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand how you feel. I met a lady at my surgeons office that lost 120 pounds in 8 months. That's how I expected this to go but now I don't see it happening. -
How do I keep carbs at a minimum at this point?
TonyaNKy replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for the info. I hate sweets and drinking these is torture. I'd much rather have something I can put onto foods. -

So, at this point my diet includes beans, soft cooked veggies, soft fruits, oat meal and potatoes. Seems like all high carb foods. How do I keep my carbs low when I have such a limited selection?! I'm 18 days in and have only dropped a pound this week. I drink protein shakes but even they have a fair amount of carbs and some sugar. -
Tea and coffee both contain tannic acid that over time will eat the lining of your stomach. That may be the culprit.

I'm drinking Pure Protein shakes. Where do you get the unflavored stuff? That sounds like what I need. I hate cheese of any kind unless it's melted mozzarella on pizza. Well, I do like grated parm but I could never just eat a piece of cheese or a cheese stick. The consistency makes me cringe. I can't wait for the tuna and chicken though. -

The only protein foods I can eat are the beans and eggs at this point. I would love to just eat protein and not have to drink it. But after Wednesday I can have canned tuna or chicken or fish. So I'm looking forward to that. -
As soon as I woke up they had a cup of ice water for me and I could have as much as I wanted. I don't know why you're on water restriction.

I'm surprised this isn't standard procedure. Seems like all surgeons would do this.
