In one week I will be off diet restrictions
TonyaNKy replied to TonyaNKy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you! I'm going to have to stay away from bread and potatoes. It has to be in the house because I have a husband, 16 year old boy, and 4 toddlers. :/ So, I just have to be strong. Thanks so much for the suggestions! -

I need like a sample menu that doesn't include sweets or cheese because I have no sweet tooth and I absolutely hate cheese. -
Difference in surgeons is like night and day

I don't have any problems with that but if I eat too fast I'll hurl. -
Plastic surgery in mexico?

That's amazing! Is the hotel included in the surgeons price?! -
Wouldn't we feel full longer if we DIDN'T chew quite so thoroughly?
TonyaNKy replied to JeanZ_RN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I ate chicken way too fast today and didn't chew as well as I should have and I threw up for the first time since my surgery 1 month ago. Maybe it gets better over time but I learned my lesson for now. -
Plastic surgery in mexico?

I usually stay 7 days or more when I go to Tijuana, Mexico for recovery and relaxation. However, the amount of time you stay depends on the surgical procedure. I know my plastic surgeon can be flexible as to how many days you stay. However, in my option, the longer you can stay the better, because if any problems should arise, you are near your own doctor and can receive treatment. In the hospital or a hotel? I'm trying to imagine how I would get to my flights and carry luggage and all of that. -

I don't live anywhere near TJ but I would do it. How long would I have to stay there before I could fly home? -
For those of you who are pre-op
TonyaNKy replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Rapid weight loss increases the risk significantly. Gallbladder problems are horribly painful and the surgery is misery. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. -
I have seen a lot of people having to have their gallbladders removed after surgery. This would be unnecessary had their surgeons put them on Actigall. Actigall is a medication to prevent gallbladder problems post-op. I am shocked by how many surgeons don't put their patients on this medication. If your surgeon has not mentioned Actigall, then ask him about it. BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE!!!

How long after your sleeve did you see a big change?

I'm 17 days in and I can't see a big difference. I've lost 23.5 pounds but I just can't really see it. -

I have a hard time being patient but I think this surgery is going to force me to learn how. Lol Thank you for the replies! -
I've been type 2 since 2008. I had to take 4 1000 mg metformin all at once in the mornings to regulate my blood sugar for the day. Since my pre-op diet started in early May, I haven't taken a single metformin. I am now 25 days post op and the highest my blood sugar has been after eating some potato is 80. I'm thankful to be off of it and I'm on my way to being off of my blood pressure pills.

It's to shrink the liver to get easier access to the stomach. My pre-op diet was all you can eat meats, cheese and nuts. I don't understand the point of a liquid diet as long as you're not eating carbs or sugar. Sugar and carbs is what makes the liver swell.

I can't deal with carbs. I ate mashed potatoes today and now all I want to do is eat. I haven't but I want to. I don't think I ever safely eat carbs again. Specifically potatoes or white rice or especially pasta unless it's whole grain. Sigh...oh well.

Heroine sounds about right to me! -
I live in Lexington! Dr. Weiss did mine :-)

I'm in KY too! :-) it shouldn't last more than week. A bit of warm water with lemon or lemon zest tea can sooth it but there's not much you can do. Wh did your surgery?

My 2 week pre-op diet was all you could eat meat, nuts, and cheese. I was in total carb detox. I had no idea I was that addicted. It really sucks. -

I can't have lunch meat or nuts for 2 more weeks but I can have tuna and canned chicken. -

One thing I've learned is every surgeon is different but my eating phases was week 1 clear liquids, week 2 cream soups, week 3 potatoes. So it wasn't until the start of week 4 that I could eat chicken and tuna but I could have eggs, beans and soft fruit and veggies. -
Looks like someone photoshopped someones else's body on my legs...

Gosh, I think you look awesome but if you want to change your shape I would suggest squats, strength training with emphasis on the legs and do sit ups. -
Window of time to lose weight?
TonyaNKy replied to beeteroo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There's a metabolism reset that lasts anywhere from 6-18 months where you're burning calories like a 16 year old boy. After that it's slows back to what it was pre-op. This is the time frame where you will lose the majority of your excess weight. -
It wouldn't hurt. I asked my surgeon and he said it's perfectly fine so you might want to ask yours. My hair is already thick but in the last 2 weeks it has gotten thicker. Not exactly what I wanted but it's better than the alternative! Good luck with your surgery!
