I had a stricture about 3 weeks after my surgery, intense pain, vomiting and extreme weakness. I couldn't walk on my own after puking for nearly 16 hours straight. My doc had me come into the ER, and then proceeded to do another 12 hours of tests, exams. ( it didn't help that the ER was under construction and super crowded). I ended up having an endoscopy and a dilation. The nausea stopped within 2-3 hours after, and I did not puke again. I was able to progress back through the food stages quickly to get back to the full liquids/ runny purées I was on before. I've done great since.

Ditching my cpap Being able to play with my kids Walk or even run without feeling embarrassed and in pain. ( I'm actually training for my very first 5k now!) Be able to buy high quality trendy clothing instead of mail order , " ugh, it fits so it's fine" Wear sleeveless shirts Ride roller coasters Feel beautiful, sexy and confident But my biggest reasons are my three daughters. I want to dance at their weddings, hold my grandchildren. Be alive because, frankly, the way I was going, I would not be alive in 10-20 years.

HW 336 SW 312 CW 270 My surgery was July 23, I'm a little over 8 weeks out. I feel amazing but I keep having stalls, for 2 weeks at a time. It's frustrating. I'm down from a size 34 to a 24 and from a 5 x to a very loose 3x shirt.
-
I just realized that for the first time in years, I'm no longer 200 pounds overweight. whoa... mindblowing.

July 23 for me. I'm 52 lbs down total, 28 lbs since surgery. I've had 2 rehospitalizations and a 5 day initial stay due to a GI bleed. I've had a stricture, blockage and an infection. I finally seem to be on the road to feeling better. I'm walking as much as possible, but I'm really struggling to get in enough Water. I have a post op visit on August 29, so I'm looking forward to talking to my surgeon. One thing that has driven me nuts is the 3 week stall. I hit it at 2 weeks out due to the pre op diet and stayed there for two weeks. I'm crazy about weighing in and even though the surgeon and his nurse told me not to weigh in every day, I do. It's important for me to see that scale moving down. I had to buy new clothes already. I've gone down 2 sizes in my pants and shirt and 1 size in my bra. It's so surreal to have to put clothes back because they're too big.

I have dimpling around my largest incision, it was a lot worse while I was still retaining gas and water.

Totally normal, I hit a stall at 2 weeks out 21 lbs down and I'm still there. Literally 292.2 no matter what I eat or don't eat or how much I walk. I talked to my husband about how frustrating it is to go through all of this and to feel like maybe that's all I'll lose, and he said" your body is healing, it's been through major trauma. It's putting all it's energy and effort into healing and trying to figure out why it's not working the way it should. On top of that, you're giving it 300-600 calories a day. It's scared it'll starve. Let it figure this out and soon the scale will move down again. In the mean time follow directions, and the plan". My husband is a smart guy lol

I've been told it's normal. But the pain I'm having isn't quite burning but I'm not sure how to describe it. I hope you feel better soon, if you're very concerned, call your doctor.

I'm finding that for me my food addiction is greatly increasing the struggle to "be good" and stay on diet, I have another week to go on the puréed diet and the food cravings are so intense. I'm mourning the foods I can't eat. I knew I had a problem but I never thought it was this bad. I'm trying to replace food cravings with Water or with a different activity, it'll be easier to do that when I can exercise more. I'm still dealing with a lot of intense pain. -
Mine was July 23. I've had a few complications and one rehospitalization. My first weigh in was 336, I went to 306 then chugged water like there was no tomorrow in prep for surgery. Surgery weight was 309, went to 319 with fluids in the hospital, current weight is 292, for a loss of 44 lbs total
-
Y surgery is tomorrow morning at 11:30 am. I have to be at the hospital by 9:30. I'm scared, nervous and very excited.
-
I'm back home but super exhausted and dealing with a lot of pain.
-
And I'm back in the hospital. Infection.
-
I came home after 5 days in the hospital, I'm a week out and 12 lbs down. I'm exhausted and trying to just get back to my baseline. I had a lot of blood loss and required 2 blood transfusions.

Surgery went well. It lasted a longer time than we had planned, due to pelvic scaring ( 3 sections and 3 spinal surgeries) I'm feeling tired, and I'm ready to stop hurting. I'm not having much gas pain, but the incision on my left... Wow! I've had sugar free Jello, sugar free grape juice, chicken broth and Water. It's actually tasty. I should be allowed to start full liquids today and I started walking yesterday.

I've been there. One thing that helped me was making a list. I wrote down all the reasons I want to do this and also everything that scares me about having RNY. I'd recommend digging deep with this exercise. For instance, I'm scared I won't know how to be "me" in a skinny body, for years I've been everyone's funny fat friend. I wrote down that one of my fears is the excess skin. Is my husband going to be turned off if parts of me look like a shar pei. You may also want to take it 1 meal at a time, if you can't trust yourself to make good decisions about food, eat a meal and then pre pack and plan for your next meal, use a scale and weigh and measure your food, use myfitnesspal religiously and log every bite. Good luck! You can do this!

I'm on the 23rd too a little nervous but mostly very excited!

I'm having surgery with Dr Eagon July 23 I think if you ask his office for a card explaining that you've had bariatric surgery they'll give you one. If not, make your own off a " print your own" business card, then get it laminated. I used to have a card from my neurosurgeon because of all the metal in my spine for airports. Oh and edited to add: Olga's in St Clair Square will let you order off the kids menu

I'm scheduled for July 23 I'm getting excited too!

I'm definitely looking forward to being more comfortable in my skin... I have a naturally loud and outgoing personality, that for years I have suppressed because it's bad enough being "the fattest person in the room" but to add in there "the loud fat chick" too... I'm looking forward to buying cute, trendy clothes, and feeling pretty again. Right now all I wear are tee shirts and jeans or yoga pants. Next summer I'll be nearly a year out, and I plan on buying some sun dresses, and a tee shirt from my favorite baseball team.

What should I take to the hospital?
Seagull00 replied to nx4slim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery isn't until July 23, but from my recent surgeries, I've learned to pack the following hairbrush ponytail holders shampoo (I hate what the hospital offers) tooth brush tooth paste phone charger extension cord lip balm 3-4 pairs of underwear (depending on length of stay) a comfortable outfit to wear home a book or two medication list insurance cards baby wipes for freshening up before you can shower thank you cards (to write notes for gifts given in the hospital and to leave one for nursing staff) a pen -
My doctor told me to get started on the vitamins now, so I'm in the best shape nutritionally that I can be before surgery July 23rd. I bought the gummy vitamins and have been taking them, but I'm now wondering if I should switch to chewables, or if gummies will be ok post surgery. What has your experience been, and is there a difference in how gummies or chewables are absorbed? I want to make sure I'm doing everything I possibly can in order to be successful. I'm also wondering if specific brands are better or should be avoided. I know there's vitamins specifically for post op bariatric patients, but I'm wondering if there's a true difference in the formulations or if it's more gimicky than anything.

Give your opinion to tell or not
Seagull00 replied to New Me 787's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my husband, children (they're 9,8 &2) mother in law, best friends and my dad and step mom, sister in law, sister and neighbor. Other than that I'm keeping quiet about it, My husband and I decided that because of other issues on my side of the family that it was best if my mother and her side don't know, so we're keeping the circle tight and controlling the information tightly. -
Hi! I'm a 32 year old wife and mother of three beautiful children. I am pursuing Laproscopic Gastric Bypass. I've gone through the 6 month supervised diet twice, once with my primary care physician and once with a registered dietician. I have my insurance approval and am waiting for my pre op appointment and my pretesting and meeting with Anesthesia. I started having struggles with my weight as a teenager. I put on over 100 pounds in one year due to medication, and continued to gain weight steadily over the years. I have tried so many things during the years to lose weight, including participating in medical studies, diet efforts, exercise efforts, group weight loss support groups and counseling. I've never been able to maintain weight loss and losing more than 10-20 lbs has proven extremely difficult. I am now 200+ lbs overweight, and have sleep apnea, prediabetes, and extreme chronic pain issues from back and joint conditions resulting in very limited mobility. My children and husband are my life and if I keep going the way I am, I will not be around to enjoy their lives or to be a participant in their lives. That is no longer an option for me. I am choosing life and I am choosing to change my circumstances, by having gastric bypass. I can't afford to fail anymore, and I will not. Currently and up until surgery I am following a 1400 calorie a day diet and have been trying to step up my exercise (swimming) After surgery, I am most looking forward to being able to have normal experiences with my family, like taking my kids to the zoo and walking instead of using my wheelchair, going on vacation and not stressing about if I will be comfortable in an airplane or car. I am looking forward to being able to shop in regular stores for clothes, and not being ashamed to be out in public. My surgery is scheduled for July 23, and I am nervous but very excited to start my new life.
