Omg you said the magic trigger word that literally fills my mouth with drool: pie. Pie is a definite happy place for me, and I didn't get to "say goodbye." And then I snap back and scold myself "What a silly thing to obsess about when this amazing opportunity is on the horizon. It's not like you'll never have pie again, relax."

October Buddies wanted
superbariatricbabe replied to Marianneva's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
800 calories sounds like a rough 2 weeks. Remember to reach out if you need help. A lot of us are in similar boats right now. My liquid diet seems to be hardest around 5pm right before dinner- so that's when I check the boards and forums to stay focused and remind myself of the end goal. -
I've hit a couple speed bumps on my liquid diet. First three days I was 100% compliant. Today I backslid pretty hard. Only thing I can do is pick myself up and start over starting now. I find the hardest times for me are when I'm alone. I'm a sneaky eater- I have been for years. I'm trained to "take advantage" of every moment of solitude = binge. breaking that habit is something I'm still dealing with and its the thing I'm most frightened of after surgery.

Hey happy!! I'm in cville too! Are you with dr. Trahan? -
Welcome Sherri and freelyme! Glad to have you in our little October group.

I drink 2-3 Nalgene bottles of water a day - it's 32oz big, and knowing that I need to get through at least two makes it easy. I've been doing it for months and my skin looks so much better. Somehow the big bottle is easier than a bunch of little ones that I will lose track off. I like my system so I hope it works after surgery too!

You look AMAZING! And so confident! Do you mind if I ask: did you have plastics? Because you look like you recovered perfectly! Sorry if that's a rude question! -

Happy Surgiversary! -
You know how you can sometimes get a little bit lightheaded in a hot shower? (Happens to me all the time.) It's a combination of 2 things usually: hot water on out skin opens up a bunch of capillaries in your skin and muscles (skin reddens) and a lot of blood rushes out of your inside parts to your skin. If you're dehydrated, that hot water effect is amplified and it can make you feel really lightheaded or dizzy for a little bit until your capillaries go back to normal. That's why it's super important to drink water even if you're not an WLS patient before showering up after the gym or getting in the hot tub, otherwise you can get disoriented and maybe even fall. Us, WLS-ers are prone to dehydration so I'm guessing that's what happened to you! Hope you feel better!!

Which pureed soup is best health wise?
superbariatricbabe replied to Angelyaya5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm pre-op, but i freaking love soup. I like making it from scratch, but there's some good healthy premade options too. Canned or boxed lentil soups are amazing. Lentils are low fat and packed with protein, fiber, and tons of good stuff. Black bean soups too. You could easily stick some Annie's lentil soup in the blender for a healthy option. Omg just thinking about that Annie's lentil soup is making me hungry (I'm day one of my 2week pre-op diet) -
Three weeks to go! I'm ready
superbariatricbabe replied to ranece's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Jolisue, I think that's a typical side effect from painkillers. but keep an eye on it and maybe ask your dr about stool softeners. They warned my husband about the risk of impacted colon due to painkillers after his hernia surgery. - but if you did a liquid diet there might not be much to poop anyway lol -

October 6 is my big day. But today's the first day of my preop liquid diet (woof! This is gonna be rough.) You guys must be so thrilled that your dates are almost here! Any advice for someone a few days behind? -
No red or purple? Did they say why?
-
Day One of the liquid diet isn't as totally awful as I was afraid it would be. I've had 3 of my 4 protein drinks with skim milk. Definitely hungry, but it's manageable. Looking forward to my lean protein dinner with a mountain of steamed veggies.
-
Omg I would kill to have a bmi of 36- Congrats on all your hard work!
-
Weird- my 2 week diet is 4 daily 8oz servings of skim milk plus protein powder, tons of water and/or sugar free stuff like crystal light, snacks are sf jello and sf Popsicles, and a lean meat plus steam veggies dinner. Seems doable, but I worry about my ability to stay compliant. Now or never I guess!!

Ugh you guys ~ I just got out of my preop appt with Dr Mike and he wants me to do a liquid diet starting right now. Guhhhhhhh. Originally he said I probably wouldn't need to do one, but today he was like "well it would make the surgery shorter and safer" and I was like "then giving me the friggin plan!" So SURPRISE! Liquid diet! I admit- i totally panicked and had a last minute foot long-with chili and onions -food funeral. Now I'm on the way to Kroger to get my liquid diet supplies - skim milk, sugar free Jello, and sf Popsicles. This is gonna suuuuuuuuuck. Worth it though.

Water drinking reminder app!
superbariatricbabe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's a workout iPhone app called Interval that's pretty much perfect for Water drinking reminders. You can set it to beep at the desired frequency (2-5 minutes or whatever) - I set the overall timer to 120 minutes. Perfect if your sitting down to watch a movie or on a walk. -
I get charley horses when I'm stressed out - it's like clockwork the night before a big work event or if I've been procrastinating too long on something. My anxiety level goes past a certain point and bam! Charleyhorse in my calves or thighs. Ugh I feel your pain. Maybe try a calming cup of herbal tea, or good laugh.

Less than two weeks away from my date October 6 and I'm starting to majorly freak out. In good ways and bad ways. I'm excited and trying to hold onto the hope and stay positive, this bypass is going to change my life for the better in so many ways. but I'm scared. I keep thinking about all those statistics. Almost wish I hadn't done such exhaustive research about this surgery and the potential complications. If anyone is in a similar panicky head-space feel free to msg me. I found it really helps to talk about it with other people.

You can actually shred zucchini like cheese and add it to a lot of recipes where it just blends right in. I mix equal parts shredded zucchini with low fat ground turkey - then add paprika, sugar free ketchup, salt & pepper, sauteed onions, chopped garlic, and a little bit of something starchy like leftover cooked brown rice or even plain oatmeal. It makes a bangin' low fat low sugar "meatloaf." It's even better if you cook it in little muffin tins - because the crusty bit is always the best part of meatloaf, right? Don't forget to smother the tops in a little sugar free ketchup for the last 15 minutes of cooking.

3 days post op WOW
superbariatricbabe replied to jessb418's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"My surgery took almost five hrs due to my digestive system being out of sequence so everythin was hooked up and then had to be cut out and redone because the surgeon noticed it was not rite. " /QUOTE What?!? Wait.... What does that mean? Did the surgeon make a mistake or were your organs in the wrong spot? ... It sounds terrifying either way. While 5 hours of surgery is definitely rough on your body, I'm glad he/she caught whatever it was and took care of it. Wishing you a fast and comfortable recovery!
