I hurt for quite a while but I took liquid Extra Strength Tylenol, that was what was prescribed so I did that instead. I would deffinatley stick to liquids and hydrate like your doc said, there's plenty of time for the other stuff when your insicions heal..... Feel better....It does get better in time....

Hey dee.... For those snarky people, get them a huge jar of M&M's and watch their ass' grow in their chairs....Ours won't be but then we can sit back and laugh.....being nice but getting even....heheeee.....Take it when you go back and tell this person you were thinking of her....lolol Good luck..... -
Hey there.... This may sound funny but it was in my packet of info when I started this a year ago. The doc says in this booklet that kids chewables works too but then you have to get a calcium to go with it. So I take my Flintstones everyday, the gummie ones and now I need to get a calcium. When I saw him this past Wednesday he said that was fine so ???? I had gone to GNC and gotten some chewable for women and OMG it was tooooo sweet for me it made me gag when I smelled it. So that was out and when I re-read my book I saw the suggestion so I jumped at Flintstones....lol

One more can of tuna or chicken and I'm gonna puke! Need lunch ideas.
oolismom replied to TheWigster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my gosh I can hardly get past the snails....Sorry Wigster....I got a little bento box with the ice pack things in the lid, and I started taking cheese and crackers, pepparoni sticks, fruit like grapes or pineapple and that worked really well. I'm lucky that on campus we do have access to microwaves so I can bring my boxed foods, Weight Watchers Healthy choice, those kinda things, if I want. I tell ya, I have found that those boxed things have pretty good Protein amounts so I usually have maybe a half of one for dinner and then go back later for the rest of it. I don't eat beef except whats in the pepparoni so when I want ground meat we use turkey or chicken. When you make taco meat or spaghetti you don't taste the difference. Use whole wheat or I have to look at the pastas to see which is better. For noodles I use the Japanese/Asian noodles that are made of rice but you have to watch some of those too....I am more of a label reader than before for sure. And I like going to the Whole Foods or those type of stores and see what they have for food choices. More money but again read the labels and go from there. Bad thing was I got used to drinking Kombucha and loved blueberry-mint but can't drink it now because of the carbonation.... Like my Doc told me ya have to just see what works best for you and kind of pick and choose depending on how your stomach feels. He says, "3oz. isn't very much to fill so make it good!" Gee thanks Doc....lol Good luck-hope somethin jumps out for you -

Hey everyone...Oh man I just read all of these posts on this page and there wasn't one I could disagree with at all....It took us all a long time to put this weight on, some of us all our lives, so I know it's gonna take time to get it off and try to maintain.... I saw my Doc this past Wednesday and he released me to eat whatever except carbonation and sweets of course...No problem there, I told him about how sickening sweet the protein shakes were and my Ranch dressing on salads tasted so garlicy, here's an FYI guys....He said that he didn't know why but that some people have experienced the change in their "tasters", our taste buds change. He said that sometimes what we've loved for years can no longer taste any good to us, that he wasn't sure why only that it may be metobolic changes. I got in trouble because I'm not getting enough protein in so that is my new challenge 60-100grams a day.... deehall- I feel like you.."No one knows what I'm going thru" etc.. I have used my Facebook friends as my support group, so all my friends and my school friends that wanna go out after class I have to tell them...Some of my Professors have seen me nibble on cheese and crackers between class and wonder if I'm diabetic, which I'm not, so they get curious and I tell them....I started this process with my folks as a support group and my mom has slowly started to lose her memory and my dad thinks that I was crazy to do the surgery, in fact he said if he would of know how much of my stomach was going to be removed he would of tried to talk me out of it.....So needless to say I have all of you here and my dear friends on FB and myself and my brother he and his family are excited for me and are here but I guess we all have to decide when and who needs to know when we're ready...I think everyone here has made a HUGE life desicion and we are a select group but I see it as them and us..lol...If I don't get picked for the team I will start my own team... Anyway.....good reading from all as I said....Hope my Doc info helps someone...I can't tell y'all how many times you've helped me....Have a great day and will check back later... -
Hey there.. I also found the Isopures at GNC's....And of course Amazon....I wonder if you could turn it into Jello with a packet of unflavored Gelatin??? Good idea...I don't think there's any chemicals to not allow it in the Iso....Good luck with that...Hey if allielee mixes it with the Water then why not jello??? kim

Hey Shelligirl....My family is concerned as well....I'm just like you feel sick after I try to eat a "meal"....I've decided there's no sense in fixing a big meal because I can't eat it anyway...I have been eating WW Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine's, of course I have a few bites then I get up and walk around then come back have a few more, get up walk around or go outside....Someone on here made that suggestion because I was hurting and feeling stuffed when I ate and this helps for that end of things....Hell, I never know how my stomach is going to react so I just get up and walk outside, leave my "tv dinner" sit there and when I get back it's cold, and I feel sickish....I'm not sure how you get all the protein in you when shakes make you puke 'cuz they're too sweet and you can't finish a little frozen dinner....I know I choose high protein foods when I do eat but I just don't see how it can be enough....I will ask when I see my doc in a few weeks....If I learn anything i will deffinately share.... Take care-kim

Nutty Buddy -needs help
oolismom replied to Jewells70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Nutty Buddy.... Personally I try to eat NO foods that say or imply sugar free or DIET and here's why....I've read a few studys that have stated that foods containing Aspertain or any of its derivatives can cause weight gain. I realized this prior to my sleeve surgery and cut out diet soda over 2yrs prior to, quit the sugar free foods about a year prior and went close to vegan diet, I just ate no red meat and rarely any milks or eggs, even soy....My intenstinal system was 100% better than it even had been in my life....So don't beat yourself up on an occassional treat...Check out the Protein amount and most important calories and sodium amounts....I have found some really good protein bars that taste just like candy bars and that way I'm killin 2 birds...Right now my sense of taste and smells has intensified and there are some things that are so overly sweat that I can't eat them....And smells, I can smell fires that are 40miles or so away, and I am serious...Another weird one, I liked HiddenValley Ranch salad dressing and now all I taste is garlic from it, I don't taste a ranch dressing anymore...So since surgery weird things have changed....Good Luck to you...Holla if ya wanna chat.... kim -
Feeling ill....I am almost three months post op and have gotten into "normal" food....Some days I don't even feel like eating, I know I have to so I do....When I do eat the first few minutes, quite a few minutes, I feel sick-ish...I'm not eating spicey foods or bad foods, in fact I've decided that in all reality there's no sense in making a meal so the WW SmartOnes are perfect size, have most over 10% protein and what not...But I take a few bites, get up walk around, come back foods cold have a bite or two, go walk outside and come back to try to finish....This is crazy....The only food that doesn't make me feel ill is mozarella cheese slices and melba crackers.....I'm losing my weight but damn feeling sick all the time is not fun....I'm so scared of ruining my sleeve maybe my stomache recognizes that and my mind reacts to it by making me feel sick ??...I just don't know how anyone can gain weight with WLS...It dumb founds me....I feel yucky 80% of the time....I see my doc next month and boy do I have questions...But in the mean time....helpish me I guess

oolismom replied to lillita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My expectations are very high as well. I just had a weigh in on Thursday and only 3lbs gone. I made the comment at least I lost some but I'm frustrated. Two months post-op and I've started walking more and I'm back at school so I figure it's taking a little more to keep me going. I'm doing many small snack/meals, because I can't seem to eat very much, through out the day which helps when dinner comes around. But like you I feel like I'm always thirsty and I have a Water bottle with me always....I wonder why this is?? I live down here near Mt.Hood and know of the hot weather you speak of, normally I would be drenched going from class to class but like you said with that extra weight on I'm sure I would be sweating like crazy and I'm not now....I think of all the frustration we are all going thru and I have to remember what our outcomes will be....THINNER for life and more control over food....Amazing!!! -

Hi HKMOM....I know what you're saying....I hurt pretty good right after my surgery so food was almost the last thing on my mind. Once I got to feeling better though liquids, sweet Protein shakes, Jello, all that sweet crap was making me sick so I moved on to Soups. Then they started getting old and making me just wanna puke at the thought of having Soup 3 times a day....But now I know why and the soup is the only thing I go back to I can not do the shakes and anything that says "diet" or "sugar free" I can't take that aspertain and the sweetners in them so its real or go without. Although I must say I have found a WW ice cream bar that is very refreshing because I'm not a milk person either. It does get better and soon you feel better and kind of forget about eating really thats the way its been for me. Just don't forget your protein and some liquids.... Hang in there!!! -
OMG!!!! I thought it was just me....ha! I may look at what others do but as long as I don't do the same, it's all good. I know I can't do the same, I would be sick. I do however forget what I have had done until my stomach does start to hurt. Then I realize, oh crap I think that was too fast, or maybe it was too big of bites. I forget I've had a sleeve done and I feel myself returning to the rushed eating....I changed all my other habits prior to surgery but I forgot that one....arrgghhh!!! It's frustrating too that when grocery shopping is done for our house that one person chooses to bring the "junk" foods in and she's diabetic and I know I don't eat that stuff. But I see it and know it's here. As far as going to resteraunts, right now I feel like thats a waste of money for me. I can't eat what is served and the prices are crazy. If I bring stuff home, it can last for 3 days and by then it's no good....I have a hard time with the resteraunt visits....

I'm having a hard time losing my pre op weigt:-(
oolismom replied to Libra102's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Those last few lbs. were frustrating but I did the protein, chicken or a turkey patty, and went back to the liquids, soups mainly.....Broth or black bean soups, plenty of protein there...That helped...But I came within 4lbs of BMI and the doc did my surgery anyway....I was sooo relieved....Don't stress that just makes for frustration and hunger!!! Good luck.... -
A little over a month out and stopped losing.
oolismom replied to Sassypants92201's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think all of the advice here may apply to me as well but here goes....I'm at my 2 month post op and finally no pain from incisions, yay! and I have passed the mushie stage and have started to go back to my normal diet prior to surgery. My norm was vegan, vegatarian, paleo mix with fish, chicken and turkey....Anyway, I went to weigh in today and only 3lbs. lost in a month. I have started walking 4 days a week but feel like "what did I do?" I haven't been able to eat any more or different even though I have added my much antisipated salads and WallaWalla onions.... Isn't it kind of early to have a slow down or minimal loss soooo early on???? I'm glad I lost something but yet dissapointed that it wasn't a huge amount....And is this the way my loss is going to go unless I go back to the soups and mushies? -
Time off work-did you need more or less
oolismom replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 3 weeks prior to returning to school. I thought I needed more because it took at least 2 weeks to not hurt. Then if there had been more time I could of gotten the food phases down a lot better. Here I am going on my 6th week post op and haveing a hell of a time during the day to regulate food intake, not feel sick and not be sick. There's a lot to get used to thats for sure. I thought changing my diet and mind a year ago was good, but now it's like I have to change again.....Long road, good outcome!!! -
14 days post-op, GVS....Holy beans..Thank goodness I had taken a year to change my eating habits and intake prior to surgery. I'm just anxious to get back to my salads and fish and ANYTHING that isn't sweet. These protein shakes are just getting to be much, hell, soup is getting to be much. I love reading all the posts tho they are helping me understand the different things that are happening to me now. Just waiting for my energy level to come back up so I can keep on movin on....

Has anyone NOT lost any hair? Please reassure me.
oolismom replied to shelly75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not yet....Well, the only hair I've lost is from the matted up mess I get on the back of my head from laying in bed..I'm just trying to comb out all the knots....Lord, my hair dresser would flip a brick.... kim -
Thanks Lynn2win and Brittany.... It just sometimes hurts to walk...I haven't had a chnace to get the hanging skin yet I'm just trying to get in and out of bed and a chair without leaving my insides there. And holy crap if you sneeze, oh Lord, that hurts soooo bad...I did finally take some Extra Strength Tylenol liquid that helped for a while. I just didn't feel the need for left over pain meds. I will keep marching on just like everyone else. Thank you guys for your help I thought maybe when the drain tube was removed that something was hurt inside. Maybe not....???? kim
-
Hey Brittany....The Binder you mentioned...When you had your surgery was that something that mainly held your stomache muscles from say falling forward or something? I'm having pain still where my drain tube was run from and was thinking something like an ace bandage, girdle or something to hold those muscles close so not to hurt....I'm going on week two from surgery and all my other insicions are fine except the one where the excess stomache was removed and drain tube ran from the left side and it hurts like hell...Maybe i should just give it time....???? Or maybe look for the binder....hmmm??? thank you for your help kim

oolismom replied to lillita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there, Hopeful, you said something about our hormones changing??? Seriously??? I feel like I'm on the verge of tears every time someone says or does something I don't like. I thought it was just my other meds not working. I never thought the surgery, VGS, would do this. I feel like I need more head meds!!! Wonder how long this will last..... kim -
Hi Katie....I'm new here too. I just had my sleeve surgery Monday the 19th on May but I have been working at the pre-op diet for almost a year. Last June, 2013, was my first visit and the class and all the preliminary garbage. And at the end of the day they tell me you need to lose almost 50lbs and oh by the way we have you scheduled for surgery in August. So I went home and figured out the reality of what I could really lose and talked to my MD and ahe flat told me there was no way that was going to happen but do what you can. So I took this past year and changed my way of thinking mainly, but I changed my eating by visiting the Whole Foods stores and the Natural Grocery and Trader Joe stores. I knew they were not the cheapest places to shop but I started there to read my labels and see what tasted good, what I could make at home, and mostly buy at my local Safeway grocers. I had bread, low calory, I had a candy bar once or twice but I cut out anything with Aspertaime in it, diet soda, sugar free this or that. I felt better and after a struggle I lost my pre op weight, 55lbs gone. I just read something it said "One day of cheating does not make you fat just like one day of eating right does not make you skinny", I thought that was very appropriate for this journey. It's not gonna happen all at one time but it will happen over time.... Good Luck- kim

Almost Two Weeks Post-Op and Facing Some Challenges
oolismom commented on butterfyeffect's blog entry in My Journey to Skinny
Hi there...I can't believe they didn't give you a liquid pain med. My doc game me that and thank God for it. It sounds like the trial and error is something we all may have to go through with the bite amounts. And I agree if it wasn't for the hair I would just drink my food too...lolol...My only craving right now is something other than a sweet protein shake...lolol....Thank you for your post I enjoyed reading someone elses trials and tribulations. Something to look forward to or not!!! kim -
Staple foods for the liquid phase (phase 1)
oolismom replied to mistysj's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think I posted my question to the wrong spot to begin with....Anyway, I am 4 days post op and I am sick of the sweet stuff. I have been told to be on liquids for 3weeks before I go to Phase 2 but this is crazy. Purchased canned Soups are high in sodium and low in Protein. In my after carre papers I can't have black Beans yet, greek yogurt maybe once or twice a week but its the main "dinner" liquids that I'm frustrated with. chicken noodle Soup minus the noodles can only be good for so long. I'm staying away from sugar free products because of the Aspertaime in them and I was as close to clean eating as I could get prior to surgery so I'm having a really hard time coming up with ideas, recipes high in protein and low in the other stuff....Anyone have any ideas???
