Burping all the time :(
gottagonow replied to bellaaa_vita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lately I've been burping with Water only. This one is new to me. I'm on week four and it just started full force. The body is an interesting thing. -
It doesn't strike me as slow, but I'm not buying the comparisons. We all started at different places w/ our own body hormones, etc. It was interesting what the commentator brought up about Ketogenic diets. I've been avoiding carbs (bread is easy to avoid for me, Pasta is a different story) and I think that may help some. I miss pasta and I'm waiting for the lack of it to be a habit as they say - it's been over three weeks. I have the most boring diet, deli meat and cheese. I've tried other stuff and it hurts, but I will say when that happens, I go for another walk and it really helps.

Yes, I have indeed saved a ton of grocery money. I don't have a family to feed so over these last 4 weeks, it's easily over $200. Nice perk!

I was barely 35 but I had extra issues and was approved. I definitely have observed that the weight loss may be a little slower too.

Scared to eat!
gottagonow replied to Bigmommatojacob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think surgeon's differ on many instructions. I was not told to wait that long for pork at all. I was not told 80% of the stuff I read on here. I listen to my doc; it's working so far. On being afraid to eat, I totally get it. It's not even about haters for me as it is about failure. We went through a lot to get here. I had a guilty day yesterday, but when I did the math, I was fine. It's the knowledge that this is it in terms of outside aid that gets me. But we'll get there! Without starvation! -
Non-NSAIDs Pain Relievers
gottagonow replied to blondiebabs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to take them but to talk to your surgeon if you need them infrequently. The surgeon's orders put me back on BCPs as soon as the surgery was complete. -
Too much protein in one sitting leading to hair loss?
gottagonow replied to Travelmego's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a lot of differing views on this. My doctor doesn't buy that it must be spread out to be absorbed and even directed me to an article that I shared on here. I think folks should go by their docs and not assume your doc is not telling you something. -
Side effect of postop meds

Hydro made me very itchy and it gave me indigestion. I would have to take it with pecid. -
4 wks post surgery, gaining weight and panicking
gottagonow replied to Happygoomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yikes on your doc! My Nut, who works at my surgeon's office, told us about stalls prior to surgery and to not get discouraged. Man oh man on that doc...I'm just really taken aback. -
30 days of blood thinner shots post op?

i learned something new! We got it in the hospital and that was that. It left a lot of bruising for a long time. I can't imagine what a month will do. -
May 19-23 Sleevers, Roll Call!
gottagonow replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Somebody noticed today for the first time that I have lost weight! I see that eventually that gets annoying from the posts, but I'm nowhere near that being annoying. She casually said, I see you lost weight. She asked me how (I think it was genuine as she is trying to lose weight). I said I track all of my food and exercise more....hey, I do. Then she asked a question I consider rude, how much have you lost. I just replied that I stay away from scales at this stage and go by my clothes. I'm surprised by that question. I would never ask someone that.... -
May 19-23 Sleevers, Roll Call!
gottagonow replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all. I think when we notice variations, we really shouldn't beat ourselves over it. I was able to go back to working, walking and hanging out fast by some people's standards, which helped. I also think the fact that my doctor only had me on liquids the morning after surgery and then straight to puree/soft foods helped ME. I am not trying to say what others should do or what is best, just what helped ME. I felt full and I had energy. I notice when I eat broth, well, I just think the calories add up because I can get so much more down. We all heal differently and have different levels we are at. It's going to come off. -
It's not worth it. I won't do the preachy thing as I am sure you heard it all before. But think about this major surgery as a beginning of healthier living. We were told that those who have WLS. often turn to alcohol (once permitted) b/c food was an addiction that the stomach does not allow. She did not say smoking b/c technically nobody should per their understanding, but I found it interesting that they've seen alcoholism with WLS and that addiction factor b/c you mentioned the need to smoke is similar to your old need to eat.

My doc said three weeks.

May 19-23 Sleevers, Roll Call!
gottagonow replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure what kind of loser I am yet because it's only been 3 weeks and I only weigh myself once a week. I feel comfortable saying I lost about 20 - 25 pounds since the surgery, but I highly doubt I will stay at this rate. I have trouble eating frankly...but I am sure that will go away and I will get down more. I'm hungry at times, but when I go for something like creamy cheese and hummus, I am shocked at how little I can handle before I get very uncomfortable. -
Has anyone skipped pureed stage?
gottagonow replied to Happysassyg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon is different and I am sure my doctor was not trying to split my sleeve or cause any harm. We mixed the pureed and soft foods phase per our NUT and surgeon. The "rules" vary. I think for those that need their chilli fix or the like, it needs to be pureed, but soft foods were fine. I could not handle the texture of puree and I'm glad I have a well qualified surgeon in many medical magazines who is reasonable. -
Hiccups and burping after I eat....normal?
gottagonow replied to loovie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't burp or get hiccups but it's almost like the food gets stuck in my esophagus and I have to do gentle rubs on that area to feel better. I am not eating enough per my doc but when my body says it's enough, well, I'm listening to that. -
Confession of a stupid woman
gottagonow replied to AlwaysLorri's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not stay on pureed (pureed literally made me well, it didn't stay) due to my incident but it took me two times to learn. White fish is an allowable puree/soft food (they intertwine) with my surgeon and I slowly cook it on the stove in broth. I tried flounder. Worst feeling and I could tell it wanted to revisit. Then I tried sole. I thought it was over until it did finally revisit. It's going to be a while before I go back. -
Feeling Like im doing something wrong
gottagonow replied to xojessny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree. I only look at it once a week and that has helped my sanity. When I first got out of the hospital I was on that thing way too much and I realized that me staring at a scale wasn't doing much for me. I can tell by clothes so much that the weight is coming off and when I do my weekly check-in, I am encouraged but more than anything, it's the clothes. -
Stuck and in pain...Feeling so discouraged. Need Support!

I needed my pain meds for a full week and then I didn't need them anymore. -
Let's do Brunch, Lunch or Dinner - how do you handle it?
gottagonow posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 3 weeks out and by no way can even play like I eat like a normal person. I've been coming up with all kinds of excuses, but it's hard. At a dinner the other night, I sat and drank Water and just tried to be active in the conversation. I'm in NYC, a brunch city, so it's becoming frequent. Do you just move things around? I seriously feel my restriction when it's anything but water (I'm allowed softs, but it's not enjoyable). I come up with good alcohol excuses, but I know people are wondering what's up with the food. -

Haha! That is what I totally say about alcohol - too much sugar and calories and I am planning my end of summer vacation. Works like a charm. I like the soup ideas so long as they're not chock full of extras or creamy. I hear you on enjoying life! That's important to me! Great ideas everyone - thanks! -

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I get down/anxious if all I do is walk and sit around my house. I am going to tell people about my restrictions and that they should feel perfectly fine eating around me - I like that idea. -

Thanks! Yep, I really enjoy the company of my friends, but I kept this tidbit to myself. There is a plus, I get a lot of Water intake when I hang with them!
