Surgeon gave me my 1st goal 1mo post op
gottagonow replied to Jewells70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you asked, I'll give my thoughts. I think it's achievable but I don't think it's mentally healthy. I lost that much but I barely ate and exercised like a nut. I felt guilty when I ate. When I went back, my surgeon was concerned. (I did this on my own, not their advice) I saw people dropping pounds daily on boards and I think I got a little wacky. That's why I ignore people's losses and read experiences. That said, if you have a high BMI, my surgeon said my loss would be good b/c higher BMIs lose quicker. They did not like it on me b/c it was not fitting for my body. -
Drinking alcohol post-op, your experiences?
gottagonow replied to PlzCoolerMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not all doctors agree on the carbonation bit. I did a ton of research and even found a doc on youtube discussing it. I think it's a personal decision. I decided that I wasn't really a beer drinker or soda drinker anyway, so why bother. I do like seltzer Water, but with the conflicting opinions, well I'm conflicted! I drink on occasion without juice/caloric drinks. I don't get tipsy quicker and I account for the calories. Since I don't notice a difference I don't drink that much b/c I'd rather use those calories on food. I just think that we all have different experiences and it gets real preachy on here. Surgeons, people, everything varies. You have to do your research (boards are one spot) and make personal decisions. -
My doc started us on puree on day 2 in order to leave the hospital. I lost a lot of weight and so did my surgery buddy (a heavier man - they lose faster). At first, I thought my surgeon was strange from board reading but now I think I get it. We had energy and we were full very fast. It's easy to drink many calories. I wouldn't worry about it too much and know that there are many ways that this surgery works.

when do you start getting rid of clothes?
gottagonow replied to Wires's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a lot quicker than I thought. I don't know when I'll level but I refuse to look shaggy so I buy 2 items of lower sizes every now and then. -
Feeling so terrible :(
gottagonow replied to slimfastLI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first week was just horrible. And I had read the wrong topics b/c I only heard of people feeling great. I finally found others in my position. It gets so much better!! -
Does anyone regret it?
gottagonow replied to XForeverYoursX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't regret it but I will say this: I miss eating normally (not overeating). I can eat when I go out, but it is just a few bites. It is quite obvious. I'm young and I date so it's not as if I have a hubby who gets it. It may seem mild, but you'd be surprised how I dread food dates or events. I don't drink now like I used to and I noticed some folks stopped inviting me to happy hour. I asked them about it and told them that they really should not assume that I don't want to be involved or that I mind since it was my decision not to drink, but it initially hurt a bit. Seriously, social life changes depending on how you once were. I am happy with the surgery, just getting used to my new social life. I did not tell people, by the way. -
I am worried I am losing too fast
gottagonow replied to charlie707's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Per my surgeon, the more you have to lose and then if you're a man, the quicker you'll lose. My BMI was not extremely high and they expressed concern that I was losing too fast and ordered tests to check on Vitamin levels etc. So, if it ever becomes a concern, they'll let you know. -
Where are all my May Sleevers?
gottagonow replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped posting numbers or paying much attention to them because I found it did not help me in those initial weeks and then I spoke with my PA. She's not an advocate of boards, which is whatever , but she made other valid points and I realized that I get a lot from these boards, but comparisons were ridiculous for me. We are all so unique and frankly strangers. I'm not suggesting anyone else needs to deal with it as I did by any means, but I do hope that it is helpful to know that you are doing just fine - ask your doc! Your meat and cheese comment made me laugh - it is so true! I'm slowly getting more used to my "choices" by flavoring my meats different ways and adding garlic, onions, etc. to make it how I like it. Just now it is not sitting on a pile of pasta! I never really had a sweet tooth but my nut mentioned sugar free fudgsicles. -
Where are all my May Sleevers?
gottagonow replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on May 19, so I'm coming up on week 8. The weight loss is appropriate and gets noticed, which is interesting to watch peoples' faces as they notice the changes but aren't really sure what's up. I don't mind that at all! I do find that since about week 5-6, I literally have to force myself to eat and sometimes I don't do that. I've lost a lot of weight, but I want to do it the right way so I actually need to get the calories up and that in check. -
Eating out card ?
gottagonow replied to KimberlyBranco7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the idea of it, but I'm very private. I wouldn't want the waitress knowing my business (most people much closer to me don't know), so I don't know if I would use it. I do waste a lot of food when i go out or I bring it home. -
What's the one thing you had all wrong?
gottagonow replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I expected that I would not want to eat as much. I was surprised by how certain foods that used to be fine with me don't agree with me at all! That really caught me by surprise. -
I don't want to gross anyone out, but my surgeon has me on the stage of trying new things. Oh, oh, oh, when it's not right I feel like collapsing. All I can do is wait for the revisit and lay down. As soon as that happens, I'm me again. This time I had one bite of a tortilla - won't be doing that again. So, now I know no fish and tortillas. If this is the impact of all carbs, I'll be in a good place with food, but figuring it out is just gross. Definitely not trying new things while out and about. Is this the norm with folks?

If i only know getting sleeve was so painfull
gottagonow replied to tarbaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember being in your shoes. I found this thread helpful as well. I had only heard of folks feeling wonderful and I knew that I couldn't be the only one. I was sore for a good 7 - 8 days. Getting up from bed or sitting up was the worst. -
Just had sleeve surgery and I'm ALWAYS HUNGRY!
gottagonow replied to Erica517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your doctor and nut. I'll leave it at that. We don't all experience the same thing. We simply do not and there can be unnecessary angst from thinking we do in general. Best wishes. -
Nice benefit! I couldn't get Protein drinks down much anyway, but I wish I had paid attention to this before. Good for people to know!

Antacid does nothing for my hunger but it does help me with the burps! -
Eating at 3 months out
gottagonow replied to Tammylb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Results are definitely my great motivator. There are times I just want to get out of food social events, but I'm coming around on how to handle that but it's my main "issue" right now. -
Just had sleeve surgery and I'm ALWAYS HUNGRY!
gottagonow replied to Erica517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sidebar: I really think that whether one is hunger varies greatly. I freaked out b/c it seemed nobody was hungry on here. But I read more boards, more articles and talked to my surgeon and it really isn't one size fits all. You're losing weight, which is great. I don't have tips on how not to feel hungry, because I do some days, and others, I can barely eat. I just get through those days with more Water, etc. I don't eat past the burbs either, even if they start after only two - three bites. I wait my 30 minutes and drink water and this helps. -
Not enough calories
gottagonow replied to p-ruck21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a hard one b/c I was told not to force myself to eat. Later on my nut did say to at least eat a piece of cheese when I'm not hungry. She expressed concern with the meal skipping. -
Not able to drink water, i feel like a champagne bottle thats going to pop
gottagonow replied to Niquee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your description spoke to me. That is exactly how it felt for me, like champagne bubbles. In due time, I was able to drink more easily but even now, on occasion, I feel the bubbles. I am able to get enough down now so do see if you can get some aid with hydration. And don't forget the sugar-free popsicles count as liquids! I exercise which helps my body crave the Water and get a decent amount down. -
Not enough calories
gottagonow replied to p-ruck21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, but my nut says exercise helps. Exercise ups that metabolism - it has been key for me. And I'm no marathon training guru, but I make sure I get it in. -
Wish I had bypass instead of sleeve!
gottagonow replied to re14768's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely speak with your surgeon and/or nut. When you go for your weigh-ins, they should provide tips (if you go in). I use my fitness pal daily and that accountability really helps. Also, the accountability of my monthly weigh-ins at my surgeon's makes me stick to my food and exercise routine. I know some surgeons don't do this, but it really makes me want to be a winner (or I guess loser as they say on here). -
Less than 14 days post op - guzzling water like nothing
gottagonow replied to adrinicmen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's great you can get your Water down. I'm going on 7 weeks and even now I can guzzle up to a low point, then the burps start. But I really want that water! Good for you. -
On the other side
gottagonow replied to Missviscious's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be repetitive because it really works - walk, walk, walk. -
Denied by BCBS Federal with BMI < 40, next step
gottagonow replied to peteyrulz's topic in Insurance & Financing
Only 8 pounds! Put some leg weights on at your next weigh in and call it done. I hear about being told to gain weight but I just couldn't do it. I got sick and less hungry trying. I was losing weight.
