Where are all my May Sleevers?
gottagonow replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome - so glad to see this thread! I'm leveling, moving beyond target. My stomach is still funny about certain things and carbs are a no so....loss continues but it's slower. Frankly, I'm sick of people's comments on the loss. Never, ever thought I'd say that. Really. -
Where are all my May Sleevers?
gottagonow replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Howdy! I used to literally hate, and don't hate me for it, but hate how people referred to this decision as the best decision ever. I guess it all is about life's experiences. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't feel that way, but I get it May-ers! This summer has been awesome! I never realized how few pictures I took until I started allowing myself to be in more. We'd go to shows and be invited on stage and I said, hey why not. Would not have happened before! I've just been living differently, same person, but a little louder I suppose. For reference (not comparison, please), female, 5'10," and about a size 10. The doctor asked me to be in his commercial (I'll never be that loud - not happening), but it was a feel good moment. No doubt, the surgery did more than help, but I exercise like a nut so I sometimes allow myself to be happy not for this medical procedure but also for what I did with it. Let's keep it going! -
**PANICKED** VETS: I feel like I won't be able to eat for the rest of my life
gottagonow replied to Elizabeth21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you - I thought this may be what the sleeve entails. Definitely not eating too much or too fast...I think my doc may be kind of impressed with himself right now, but I'm going to be firmer when I describe this. -
One more can of tuna or chicken and I'm gonna puke! Need lunch ideas.
gottagonow replied to TheWigster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slow cook turkey drumsticks, flavor chicken very well and have cheese. Not super exciting but it works. I had a bad reaction to seafood. I have so much in my freezer I just want to give away but it's hard to explain handing out frozen foods. -
Let's talk about NSAIDs
gottagonow replied to snowkitten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take them. Less now, but I'm not going to sit around in pain. Maybe once a month I have Aleve due to headaches. It was a personal decision. -
**PANICKED** VETS: I feel like I won't be able to eat for the rest of my life
gottagonow replied to Elizabeth21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved May 19 so I have no idea what the future will bring, but for now, there is very little I can eat without pain. It seems to be getting worse frankly. Like I was okay with shrimp and then one day I was rolling around in the bed after having some (not fried of course). I eat very oddly and I know others are perfectly fine, but eating out is a mess for me. Everything is surrounded by meals. My stomach can't hang with most on the menu, but I try. Then, I get the comments about how I barely ate. It does get me down at times not because I want to eat bad foods, but I don't want to be the center of attention. It seems it may get better with time. I had to call out some friends who I noticed stopped inviting me to Happy Hour. They don't know the deal but I told them that it's the company, not the alcohol and we cleared that up. At least I know I'm making progress. My doc asked me to be in a TV ad or paper ad because of my progress. Since I kept this to myself, that isn't happening, but sometimes you need to hear the good stuff. -
Getting sleeved Monday!
gottagonow replied to Fox-E's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best wishes! Walking was a breeze for me with my morphine drip. I missed it when I got home but walking truly helps with a lot of what ails us shortly after surgery. -
Happened to me b/c the PA couldn't get a vein and tried to go through an artery in my hand. She also kept looking at the clock because she got off at 7 and didn't seem to have time for this. Yeah, great lady. Blood went flying everywhere but the vial and my hand was a mess for almost a month. Then a nursing assistant came in later that day b/c the lab said the little in the vial was not enough and took some easily from my arm vein. What are you going to do....

Spicy foods question
gottagonow replied to honeybunz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still get my hot in with my food. I have lowered the volume a bit b/c I know I cannot drink Water for a bit. Speaking of, I was out and forgot and took an adult drink in right after/during food. I was in pain until we left and I walked around - just a note on what worked when I made that mistake. -
You're three days out and this will likely balance itself. I will share though that I simply do not urinate as much as I used to before surgery (3+ months out). I do get my liquids in, but I can go a full day at work without using the ladies room. I chalk it up to an interesting side effect I have. I don't see much on it so I don't know if it's common.

I'm 3 months + out (still sounds odd to me, it went by fast!), I use milk of magnesia. It continues to work for me, but I try to only use it once a week. The downside for me, it works within hours. If I take it, I'm staying home for a bit. By 8 hours, it's done the job and then some on me!

I compared a few brands and found Tribe hummus to be the best calorie wise. Olive oil is a healthy oil, but it's still an oil and can add a ton of calories to things. I imagine that was what the other poster was getting at. I was out to eat and ordered tomatoes and mozzarella...it was drenched in olive oil. I wasn't comfortable with that much oil and all of those calories.

Men, does a woman's loose skin affect you at intimate times?
gottagonow replied to Dr-Patient's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I nearly fell off the couch - love that comment! And so didn't see it coming. -
The comparisons are ridiculous (strangers with who knows what issues) yet people drive themselves nuts over them. This is of course only my opinion and not all people do this. It's why I made the decision for me. It's that simple.

How could you POSSIBLY be exercising right now?
gottagonow replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I'm 10 weeks today. Funny, as this becomes the norm, all of that counting weeks stopped for me. I don't eat a lot of calories (working on it) and I do strenuous exercise. I did notice some dizziness so I'm going to try to up the calories. I just can't eat when I'm not hungry but I know I can do more. How do I exercise? I keep telling myself I have 6 good months of this thing and I'm going to do it no matter what! I slowed down to relieve most dizziness and I really just love the results. The shape of my body is what I like, not just the pounds that are gone. All of that gets me working out each time. I have about 10 - 20 more pounds to lose and it's harder to lose them I'm noticing. That it turn makes it hard for me to make myself eat more (I want them gone!), so I'm enjoying the logic on these threads. -
Why cant i throw up when i get too full.
gottagonow replied to Zane's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you mean. It is a relief when I eat something that suddenly does not agree with me and comes up; until then I am literally in pain. This happens when it doesn't agree with me for me, not when I overeat. I haven't been able to overeat to tell the truth. Then there are times when it doesn't happen and I literally roll around my bed for hours. I don't know what causes the difference but boy is it a lesson about certain foods. Given this, I only eat things I know when I go out. -
Help! need advice! feel like i am clogged!
gottagonow replied to hopeliveshere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love that last comment. It has a way of doing that, doesn't it. -
There was another thread on this. I was alone and absolutely fine (did have ride home from hospital). I hurt, but I didn't need anyone. I will say I didn't have a dog that required activity or anything. I was mostly in bed. I have not read all of the responses, but I can speak for myself, I was fine. I guess every body (literally body) is different b/c I read of people taking off a lot of time and I would have been bored out of my mind. The first week sucked but after that, it was more than manageable. Being independent got me moving and feeling normal again.

Family invited us out to eat...they just don't get it...
gottagonow replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally have found I cannot expect others to suddenly stop doing what we used to do due to my surgery. I drink a lot of Water during these times and make sure I have a healthy snack or meal before going. I still enjoy the company, but I'm too full to be tempted. I must try that pizza. That sounds fantastic!!! -
Calorie intake... am I eating too much?
gottagonow replied to IdaliaMay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always find these topics interesting b/c my practice did not put me on a specific caloric range at all. They did recommend ounces and a "5%" rule (no more than that in fat). Also, I lost much more with soft foods. For me, I think I was drinking too many calories. I felt full with foods. -
8 months of bleeding and finally got an answer!
gottagonow replied to Katie74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing. I found the pill is doing nothing for me - what's the point when one continues to bleed. So, I stopped it and get a regular period, but I do need to get back on track. Need to get that gyn appointment in. Thanks for sharing!! I hope I can get this figured out in less than 8 months. It's nice to not be alone w/ the body issues. My doc and PA never mentioned this. -
Question...what has been the hardest thing to deal with post op?
gottagonow replied to swtpea637's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely struggle with knowing how much to put on my plate. It's usually too much b/c just a few bites does the trick. And even though I know that, it's still an issue. -
Drinking While Eating
gottagonow replied to jbryant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, Water washes food down quickly. I realized how much I relied on this post-op. In order to eat a Chipotle burrito in the past, I always had to have water with me to aid in getting it down. Without that water, I would have ate less. I see it now too although it can be rather uncomfortable. The food just sits there almost in my throat (or so it seems) until I wait 30 minutes, by then it has moved, and I can have water. I realize I would have eaten way more if I drank while I ate. But it's hard when out. That glass of water just sitting there!! It's hard not to slip up. -
Question...what has been the hardest thing to deal with post op?
gottagonow replied to swtpea637's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may be a strange response and I know all mean well, but I don't need a pep talk. I find the hardest part of this is that I'm a bariatric patient. I'm not ashamed but it's now a major surgery I have to account for (first one) and I like just being regular. When I'm out and about, nobody's thinking about how I got to my weight...I just like being a regular and regular sized woman. The bariatric part gets old to me with new docs and considerations (women the pill pretty much stopped working for me, so next stop gyn announcement). That's the hardest part it's been for me to get used to. Again, I accept that as my journey. -
Where are all my May Sleevers?
gottagonow replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 5/19. I'm at a good place weight wise. I would like to lose some more so that I am "comfortable" right now I'm so aware of my weight (even though I only weigh myself once a week). I just don't feel I have any wiggle room for a vacation or whatever. I work out a lot (jog). I usually have to drag myself to get going, but love that feeling when I'm done! I haven't had carbs much yet...too nervous to go there. Poultry, seafood, Beans, spinach and cheese. My refrigerator is interesting....very carnivorous. My results may not be average. I did not have an extremely high BMI.
