Bowels!

Hello Selena Hay, thank you for your reply. I think prune juice sounds like the perfect idea. It should kill two birds with one stone and with the added advantage that I love it (especially with vodka and ice). I will behave myself! PdxMan has just posted whist I was writing this. Think I might try a cocktail! Thank you both.

Bowels!

Sorry folks, not a good teatime subject. I'm really unsure how this should work. Went to loo last week but nothing since. I am on fluids only but keep getting low bowel cramp which suggests some disturbance down there. Has anyone got any suggestions. Will I even go on fluids only. Feel bloaty as if I need to but can't. PLEASE HELP. Thank you

Follow up

I'm just interested to know what amount of follow up others are getting. I'm not sure what the norm is in the UK. I'm very happy with the service so far, very quick and efficient and I've had no post op complications - touch wood. However I don't see anyone at all for six weeks post op. I can phone if I have a problem, but reading other posts people seem to be having more follow up than this. I feel fine but I'm just intrigued. Guess I want my monies worth!

Just want to add that I am very happy with my consultant Simon Dexter and would definitely recommend him and the Nuffield Leeds to any would be sleevers. Great liaison with my GP who has a also been great.

Good afternoon ladies. Thank you so much for your replies. It does sound pretty standard aftercare in the UK. I was just surprised by what's said on the USA sites about all their groups and assessments. It has just occurred to me that maybe it's because they are going through private insurance companies. There has not been a mention of a support group, but I agree I am not a great joiner myself. It seems we will have to continue being our own support group!

That should say prior to discharge - I hate predictive text.

Hi it's only me again. Was any one leak tested prior to disabled as charge in the UK. I had no tests post surgery, just came home. I am self funding and just wondered if this works differently. I suppose as I am actually fine all these points are irrelevant. I'm just interested in other people's experiences.
8. Hello. I'm now 5 days on and still on fluid only diet. The weight seems to be stubbornly hanging on in there. I only went to the loo for the first time today (what a relief) so don't know if that will have helped. My scales are a bit odd, but I had put 2lbs on yesterday according to them. Did anyone else notice a drop after the first week or so. Just feeling a little bit wobbly today. What if I don't succeed, I have nowhere to go from here. Sorry for the whining, feeling sorry for myself today.
9. Hi there. Seems like you are doing brilliantly on your post op diet. It seems to me we Have less post opening input in the UK than in the USA. Any who, got sleeved on 29th May and fed up with fluids! Can't wait to get to puree - don't say that often. Keep up the good work and enjoy your new life.
10. Hello AMDRN congrats on your surgery. I also felt really queasy for a few days. This could be the anaesthetic also getting out of your system. You will feel better very soon and get right on track. Your body will move at its own pace. Good luck. Thank you to all who posted replies.
11. Hello there. I am 7 days on now and things are starting to get back to normal - really normal. I never expected much fuss because very few people know what I have done, and also this was my choice and I have not been rushed for surgery as an emergency or whatever.(Still definately life saving though)! I must say those who do know are 100% with me and more supportive than I could have hoped for. My husband is helping as much as poss, but he is severely disabled with MS and post cancer and I am his carer. So out of hospital and business as normal. Anywho - we have a small business and we are all friends aswell. I told one of the directors because I thought he should know in case of problems, and because I need to have some wiggle room about not going into work. A BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers arrived today by Interflora from him and his wife (she also works with us). They made me cry. I felt really special and loved the attention. I feel really happy today and so blessed to have such wonderful support. The flowers are the icing on the cake.

Quick Question About The Pain

Hi there. Please don't get overly worried, the pain is really easily bearable. I personally needed a little pain relief for about 3 days mainly because of the bloaty windy feelings. The wind is uncomfortable but sip slowly and let it blow regardless and you will be fine. However you have had major surgery so be kind to yourself. I hope this all goes brilliantly for you.

Goal weight met!

You look amazing. Very inspirational.
14. Hello all. While reading through the threads I see many of you have the really neat little weight loss trackers. I'm not good with technology. Can anyone tell me how to get this. Sorry if I'm being a bit dim, just don't know where to find it, download it or whatever. Thank you in advance.

Body Weight Ticker

Thank you all. I've created a Ticker.
16. Thank you both for your replies ladies. I really appreciate the support. I am really up and down today, and even a bit peckish. Have stuck to my fluids though. I can see this site is going to be invaluable. Maybe I will keep away from the scales for a few days!

Six Days Post Op

Hello all. I was sleeved on 29th of May Nuffield Hosp Leeds. I am on 2 weeks fluids, but that includes cream Soups, slimfast shakes, plain yogurt, milk, Water, build up and other such things. The recommended diets seem to be different from country to country. I feel OK on this diet, but have no bm for about a week now. Think I might try the milk of magnesia as this doesn't feel right. Other than that feeling a little tired and windy but good. I would definitely say to anyone out there getting worried or having second thoughts - just do it. Considering the amount of surgery it is amazing how quickly things start to feel better. Good luck everyone.
18. Reading all this from preoperative to postoperative comments it is like someone repeating my thoughts. I am 3 days post opening and still feeling tired and gassy but nothing I can't manage. I know I would not be able to loose the amount of weight I need to without this surgery, so the occasional negative thoughts soon pass. It's really good being able to hear other people's stories, I really think people can't understand this unless they have been through it. Here's to our new lives.
19. Hello all and especially Swedishfish if you are out there. Hop we all is going well for you. I am feeling pretty good, but the wind is very uncomfortable. I came home today and looking forward to a good night's sleep in my own bed. Really looking forward to starting my new life.

2 days post op

Hello Lilprincess, thank you for your reply. I will try and increase my walking over the next few days. I have been doing some but to be honest I feel exhausted all the time. I guess this must be due to the anasthetic as much as anything. Also keep getting waves of nausea - could the be related to the wind coming up?

Looks like you have done brilliantly with your sleeve. Must say I can't wait to be where you are now.

NERVOUS

Going for surgery on 29th May - bit nervous now. Not worried about the surgery, that can't happen quick enough. I'm just a little concerned that I may mess up after surgery. Did anyone else feel like this? Have read some post's and it seems everybody has a different experience. Guess I would just like some moral (or immoral) support from those in the know. Thank you.

NERVOUS

Thanks for your replies everyone. Willow13 it sounds like you have done brilliantly despite the odds. I'm starting to feel less nervous and more excited now having read other people's experience

NERVOUS

Reading peoples stories and amazing weight losses makes me realise that despite wobbles I am doing the right thing. Just wish I'd done it at 44 and not 54!

NERVOUS

Hello to everyone out that. Your replies are all really reassuring. It's really good to know we are all the same. I've just had a wobble this morning and my husband was a bit weird, he has been really supportive. Problem is he is severely disabled with MS and post CA. I am is principle carer. I think I have just realised that I'm not going to be able to just come home post op as if nothing has happened, thats where my worry of failure is coming from I think. I know it sounds silly but I hadn't really thought about this as i was so excited atthe thought of a new life. I'm concerned about How I will manage things if I can't run around as normal.(We do have some help by the way). I guess it's just the jitters. We are both really excited at the prospect of me getting back to being myself again after a long absence. Sorry to waffle. Anywho enough of me, I will probably be going down to theatre at about the same time as you swedishfish - so a shared experience all round! Have a good day all, and thank you all for your support.
