band to sleeve (bcbs horizon?)
josiek1988 replied to lori72492's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had band to sleeve revision on 10/26/16. I could not be happier with my decision! It is true that because of the restriction of the band, you may not lose as fast. But you will definitely be able to tell the difference. Just remember, everyone's journey is different and what happens for them may not be the same for you. Follow the rules, eat right, exercise, keep your head up and keep your eyes on the prize. Best of luck -
Yeah, I'm scheduled for October 26th. I have started getting everything I need together but I'm not really nervous, just ready!☺ Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

Jess31581, I don't have a preoperative diet. I am a band to sleeve revision so I am just going to do the same diet I did before i got my band. But my surgeon doesn't require one. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

Next step... sleep study. And totally scared.
josiek1988 replied to Terri70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello All, I am a bariatric patient and I work for Pulmonary answer sleep docs. I can reassure you that you will be fine. Back sleeping or side sleeping doesn't really matter. If you stop breathing or have a low O2 concentration while you sleep is pretty much what they're looking for. You can do home studies but they are less accurate because it is up to the patient to record the data correctly. There is a variable for error. Anyway, if you have any questions I'd be happy to try to answer them for you. And Rosey posey, I work for MC Pulmonary and Sleep out East. Who is doing your surgery? So I had my psych evaluation today and my last appointment with the surgeon's office. Now they prepare and submit the paperwork to the insurance. This is, as you all know, and ungodly long process. But I have a feeling that the next 2 to 6 weeks are going to be unbearable!!! And to top it all off, the Nurse Practioner told me that I can't gain 1oz!!!! 1oz....REALLY!?!?!?! WISH ME LUCK! I was a "super healthy" fat person until surgery changed my life. Was it worth it?

I also have Aetna through my employer. I went to the Aetna page and printed the 55 pages on WLS. No where in there does it say that you can't gain any weight. But that is one of the first things the Nutritionist told me. She said that the insurance will deny you for 1oz of weight gain. Trust your doctor and his team! This is what they do. They won't tell you anything wrong. And they know what is needed and just how to get you approved. They will do all in there power to get you approved. I am a band to sleeve revision who just finished my last Nutritionist appt. losing only 8lbs. Psychological evaluation is July 18. No scheduled date yet and I have no idea what will happen with my insurance but I trust my doctor and his team. Best of luck to you all!!! Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

Hi, I'm in Columbus too. Having surgery at Mount Carmel West with Dr. Miller. I was actually hoping for early August but I am going to have to put mine off until October I think. I am in desperate need of a total knee replacement!!! I am really kind of devastated about it but know that in the long run i will be better off. I also work for Mount Carmel at a Pulmonary specialists office and I think, as someone else said, as long as your lungs are clear you should be fine. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App -
Curious CPAP question for ya'll
josiek1988 replied to Sandy GlueStick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Rainy Days, I work for Pulmonology/Sleep Doctors and the one thing they nor the DME company will never tell you is that you don't have to be asleep to record compliance!!!! I mean ideally this is when you have apneas and that is what the machine is for. But, you can wear it anytime and it will record. When I got mine, and even sometimes now, I will put it on while watching TV/Movie. And yes, most new machines are wireless, so they can time. One thing to keep in mind, if there comes a point in the future that you no longer need your cpap, you can sell it for a pretty penny!!! Because they are so expensive with insurance people are always looking for a good deal on a nice machine. Or, people who travel that want a second cpap to travel with. Just a thought!!! -
Curious CPAP question for ya'll
josiek1988 replied to Sandy GlueStick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did the DME company put you on a rental program? Most of the time you rent the machine per insurance for 13 months and then you own the Cpap. But if in that time you loose a significant amount of weight and feel like the Cpap is not necessary, you can have another sleep study. If you had mild apnea it shouldn't be a problem once you drop some weight to get off of the cpap. It does completely suck that even with mild apnea that your surgeon is requiring a cpap for you. At this point, I am willing to do just anything to get this WLS over and done. Just when you think you have jumped through the last hoop, another is tossed in front of you!! -
Curious CPAP question for ya'll
josiek1988 replied to Sandy GlueStick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell you that there are very stringent guidelines for cpap equipment just like there is for WLS. Insurance companies don't want to pay for anything they don't need to. So there must be a medically necessary diagnosis. And a doctor can't just say that you have apnea. There are parameters that must be met. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App -
What you should know if you get DENIED....
josiek1988 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is information most people are unaware of. If you get an insurance denial, call the insurance company and ask them who is reviewing your case. Most companies don't want you to know that is nothe someone qualified to make that decision. These people get paid to say NO!!! BUT if you call and question them on it, you will almost always get an approval!!!! I work in a specialists office and we see this all the time. NEVER TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!! -

josiek1988 replied to Livendanow16's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't be discouraged! Be thankful that you haven't had any complications with the band like most of the rest of us. I was banded in 2014 and my band slipped causing severe pain after I eat anything. The surgeon who put it in is no longer doing the procedure..... When I went to my new doctor he told me that the band is not for everyone. As a matter of fact , it's only for a small group of people. He told me that if you have more than 50-75lbs. to loose the band is not right for you. I am mid way through the process of having the band removed and a sleeve done. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I go to the gym and eat right with no results, so I'm excited to see the true me hiding uderneath all this weight. Good luck with your decision! Artificial nails in OR?

Hey all, I'm Josie. ???? I'm 45 years old and married for 3 years to the boy I dated when I was 14! I have 2 amazing young men (23 & 21) who call me mom! I have been thick most of my life. And like all of you, I have tried EVERY diet on the planet! In 2014 I got lap band. Since that day I felt as though there was an alien in my body. I truly thought I was crazy. I thought it was something I was doing wrong. I ate what and how I was suppose to and worked out 5 days a week with no results? I lost a total of 35 pounds with the band before the pain started. After an Upper GI, the reason for the pain was revealed. Band slipped ????. My Dr emptied the band and I immediately gained 15 pounds. I am now in the process for band to sleeve revision. Hoping for late July. And praying for good results and a healthier me. Then a total knee replacement in November. Anyway, thanks for sharing your stories. They serve as inspiration and confirmation that we are not alone and we can achieve the goals we set for ourselves. Be blessed ???? Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

If it is the machine is think it is, if you push the button on the front of the machine you it should take you to a menu with the settings you as the patient are allowed to change. Humidity should be on that screen. You can't change the pressure set by the doctor from that screen. There is a clinical screen that you can't get into. So don't worry about changing the pressure. You can't! Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

It sounds like an Airview machine. You need to call your doctor's office. Being compliant is about the usage not the humidity. Let them know that you are having issues. Is your machine white or black? Small screen and 1 button in the front? When you turn it off in the morning does it tell you how many hours and leaks with smiley faces? @@haleymarie ...You most definitely want to make sure you are using distilled or at least bottled Water. As for the humidifier. ..you have to be able to adjust it to your needs. Some people need more or less. And as the seasons change so will the need for humidity. What kind of machine do you have. I work in a sleep clinic and may be able to tell you how to change the humidity. What is the humidity set on right now? Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

Guessing a future clothing size problem

Order scrub pants with drawstring instead of elastic. You can wear bigger sizes for much longer. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App -
Hey, I actually work for a sleep specialist. The doctor probably ordered a split night for time sake. Usually they order a baseline and titration study. If during the night of the baseline study you have severe apnea. They will wake you, put you on cpap and titrate you through the rest of the night. If you made it through the split night and they did not titrate you is probably a good sign. Did they set you up with a second study? If not, then you probably don't have apnea or at least not severe enough to treat with cpap therapy. 5 hat doesn't mean you don't have apneas, they may just be mild. There is an oral appliance that can be used for mild to moderate apnea. Hope this helps. Any other questions let me know. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

I heard all the rooms are private. I know that seems trivial but I am not crazy about the idea of sharing a room. Dr. Page did my egd. I really liked him. I don't think I could go wrong with him or Dr. Miller. I just know this band must come out! Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App
