Hey, I'm surprised your surgeon didn't tell you to stop smoking before surgery. Every surgeon I've ever dealt with always said they would not perform the procedure if I smoke. I was even told I'd be tested to see if I had nicotine in my system. I stopped smoking in April. I was prescribed Chantex and it was wonderful. I only needed to take it about two or three weeks and I was done. I highly recommend it if and when you are ready to stop smoking. At least you tried and you know it's possible. You will do it again and you will succeed. One day at a time. Good luck as I know it's not easy.

Hi blackbeautywaiting, tell your medical doctor to write a note requesting you take time off from work. Supervisor's usually won't give an employee a hard time if the time off is a medical necessity. Your doctor won't give a specific reason so it won't appear to be "elective surgery". Employees must grant the time off since having a "sick" employee at work causes legal problems if the employer knows or makes them come into to work. You would be considered a "liability" at work. Good luck with your surgery as well as requesting the time off. I'm scheduled for surgery on 6/30/2014 so please let me know how your surgery goes.

wow amandaseiders, good for you. I am required to do the 2 week liquid diet and I am dreading it. I wish my surgeon would have told me to "eat light" instead of "eat nothing". It's interesting how this surgery is different for so many people. Good luck with your upcoming surgey. Let us know how you're feeling after surgery.

Ok, Ripper. If you say so. I'm going to hold you to that. I am scheduled for surgery on 6/30 and will begin my 2 week liquid diet on 6/16. When I am hungry and complaining, I will seek you out for support. lol. Good luck with your upcoming surgery. Please let us know how you're feeling after surgery.

Work at Home While Recovering After Surgery
Denise73 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I'm scheduled for VSG surgery on 6/30/14. I have an office job where I work at home 1 day a week. I have the option of working at home for the duration of my recovery. Is that something that I can expect to do or will I be in too much pain therefore requiring me to take pain medication which will make me sleep? Should I take sick leave the first week and work at home for a week or two? I appreciate any advice. Thanks. -
Hi, there seems to be some confusion. After posting my reply, I checked the thread and I have to agree with camper-girl, this is the sleeve forum. In the thread it says, monthly gastric sleevers - 2014 gastric sleever - June 2014. Perhaps the forums are intertwined. Surgery is the common factor. Just my 2 cents. Have a good day all. Good luck and congratulations to all who will have or have had either surgery.

Hi 630racoon, I live in the Bronx and I see we go to the same clinic, NYBG. My surgeon is Dr. Holover. Did you get your surgery date yet? Mine is 6/30/2014. Good luck.
-
Hi Time4change5170. I see we both go to the same clinic although we have different surgeons. I recognized your surgeons name immediately. "Stopobesityforlife" lol. Congratulations on your surgery in April. How are you doing? How did the surgery go? How was the care of the NYBG staff? Anxious to know how everything went. Take care and keep up the good work.

I am scheduled for VSG on 6/30/2014 and I will have 1 incision as my surgeon does single incision laparoscopic surgery. This means he will do the surgery through my belly button. I know two people who had 5 incisions.

1 month from surgery...nervous about pre-op diet
Denise73 replied to wittygirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow Wendyt, good for you. At least you were able to have solid foods to eat. I will be on the liquid Protein for 2 weeks pre-surgery. I wish I had your pre-surgery diet. lol -
That's interesting as I though any and all food would full you up. Thanks so much for this post. I learn something new and interesting everyday I'm here. That's what its for right? lol This post and it's responses help with the thought that VSG really is a "tool" as there are "dangerous foods" as DarbiMolly called them. Great Post!!!

Hi Kking1205, thanks for your response. I hope that's the case with me. Congratulations on your weight loss, 61 pounds in 4 months. That's great!!!! I hope I'm half as successful as you. Keep up the good work. I know you'll reach your goal weight. -
Stupid question, but can you regain the weight after VSG. I mean, most of your stomach is gone so there's only so much a person can eat. If losing weight is about portion control and you can't each so much, how is it possible to gain weight. A little weight yeah but regain most or half the weight lost? I'm scratching my head.

Surgery 7/14/14...Others Scheduled Around the Same Time?
Denise73 replied to CathyG123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I'm new to this site. My surgery is scheduled for June 30th. Good luck! -
I have to do the 2 week Protein liquid diet. I'm fortunate because I was seeing a dietician a few months back who prescribed appetite suppressants. I have some left so I asked my surgeon if it was ok to take them during the 2 week liquid diet and he said that would be fine. Now all I have to do is wait until the two weeks to see if these pills will work with no solid food. Good luck on the Liquid Protein diet. I'm sure you won't be alone.
-
Wow only 2 days of the liquid protein diet. Good for you. I have to be on the liquid protein diet for 2 whole weeks. I can't imagine me not eating solid food for 2 whole weeks. It's going to be a rough journey.
