    June 30th Surgery Date

Hey BrwnsugabayB, How's that pain going? In addition to walking, I hope you started taking Gas X. I hope you're feeling better. Congratulations on your surgery. I'm wishing you a healthy, speedy and happy recovery.
  2. I was able to have an 8 oz Protein shake and feel satisfied. During my two week pre-op liquid protein diet I was good. I wasn't hungry and did really well. Fast forward to a week post-op and a liquid Protein does nothing to satisfy me. Ok, I can't drink the whole 8 oz at once but shouldn't I feel satisfied with 4 oz since my tummy only allows me 1 oz of pureed food? I'm so puzzled by this I had to post. Just curious, did anyone else experience the same or similar?

    June sleevers, check-in!

Hi msbarker2u, You may not be eating enough and your body is in starvation mode. While you may only be able to eat 1/4 cup of food, you should eat the same but more frequently throughout the day. Are you exercising? Exercising helps when the body is in starvation mode. I only eat 1oz but I walk alot. I hope this post helps. Hang in there as I heard it gets better.

    June sleevers, check-in!

Hi Erica, I am struggling with eating also. I am only able to eat 1oz of pureed food then a few hours later, I am feeling hungry again and I too have what you call spasms and tightening of the stomach. I don't know what it is. I was thinking intense hunger pains but it's hard to say. Hang in there and good luck.
  6. Hi, @mi75 and @@rickm, Thanks for your responses. It all makes sense and thanks for giving me something to consider. BTW, no hernia just a persistent swollen tummy.

    Awww Man, I Thought...

Hi Jean, Thanks for your response. I am on the pureed stage. I did read the stage II diet plan given by my Nut and I am in stage II and eating right. It didn't say how much I should eat nor did it say how much I would be able to eat. I thought it was normal to only be able to eat 1oz but I have someone else who had the same surgery on the same day with the same surgeon who can eat 3 oz. I do take a acid blocker. I know the amount of food people can eat changes over time. I can only hope that it is acid in my stomach and not hunger as the feeling is so intense. Thanks again for your input.

    Tomorrow is the big day!

Thanks! Glad to hear that I'll be out of it for most of the day. Now if I can just get through this clear-liquid day today I'll be set. Josh, one way to do that is stay busy. Keep posting on here, post all your questions and concersn, read a few posts and think about tomorrow and it will be here sooner than you think. It's less than 24 hours now.

    Tomorrow is the big day!

Hi Josh, Don't worry, you won't stay awake long enough to think or want food. Good luck. I'm wishing you a healthy and happy recovery.

    Why am i hungry?

Hello, I feel the same way and actually posted about it. I was sleeved on the same day as you. I am on pureed food 1 day post op and I too feel hungry. I can only eat 1 oz and barely 1 oz so after I eat it, a few hours later I feel hungry again. Today I came to the conclusion that I'm most likely hungry because I am not able to eat enough in one sitting. There is another woman who can eat 3 oz in a stting and she too said she feels hungry every 3-4 hours. Just know, you are not alone. When you do start pureed foods, I hope your experience is better than mine and you can eat more. Good luck as I've heard it gets better with time.

    food options post op

HI, I'm 6 days post op and upon arriving home, I was on on stage II which is soft, mushy, pureed food. I have about 1 oz of cream of wheat. Before going to the hospital, I baked two whole chickens so I puree that for dinner. I still have low carb yogurt, SF popsicles and SF Jello. I hope this helps.
  12. Hi, I'm new to this site an I am scheduled for VGS on June 30th. I am a social drinker and many times attend social events with coworkers after work. How has everyone adjusted to drinking alcohol after surgery? Is it something I will have to completely give up?

    Need help fast!

Sugar Free popsicles, sugar free jello, low sodium broth, sugar free pudding, low carb yogurt for the pre op diet.

This is my story and I'm sticking to it!

Congratulations on your decision to have the surgery. Good luck and best wishes!!
  15. Hello everyone, I read so many stories about the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and I was so scared and nervous and didn't think I'd make it. I kept thinking, how in the hell these NUTs and surgeons expect us to eat basically nothing for 2 whole weeks. To the members who've yet to experience this well talked about "2 week liquid Protein diet", let me tell you my experience and hopefully it will ease your mind and give you hope. So I started my protein diet on Monday 6/16 here it is Friday and I'm fine. I must say, it's not as bad as you all think it's going to be. I don't know if it's the types of protein I'm taking but I really really haven't been hungry. Not even head hunger. Mind you I have a 14 year old son I have to either cook or heat up food for every day. I'm allowed 4-8oz Protein shakes a day, sugar free Jello & pudding, 1 -8oz of low carb yogurt, 1-8oz of skim milk, sugar free popsicles and unlimited amounts of non-sugary, non-carbonated, non-caffeinated beverages and broth. I've been having 2-3 shakes and one serving of yogurt at night as dinner and twice I've had a cup of broth and twice I've had a cup of sf jello. I haven't had any headaches/migraines or anything. I have not cheated at all, not a bite, a crumb or a lick of anything. Based on the stories I've read, I've come to the conclusion that it must be the type of protein shakes that are satisfying me and not allowing me to feel hungry. Actually, I have to force myself to have the third shake sometimes. Just like everyone else, the anticipation and the unknown had me failing at the protein diet before I even began. I have to tell you though, the two times I felt weak was when I over did it at the gym and yesterday when I went too long (about 9 hours) without a shake. Other than those two times I was/am good. I just bought my son some McDonalds and I didn't even take a french fry. I used to always have at least two of his fries. I'm working at home today and you couldn't tell me I wasn't going to be home all day and not eat something I wasn't supposed to. Nope not at all. I had one Protein Shake and two sf popsicles. So I'm saying all this to say, please don't stress over this 2 week protein diet. It may or may not be as bad as you think. I wanted to post this because I wish I read something like this before I started because I might not have stressed it as much as I did. Good luck to those of you who will be on the diet soon. I am so sorry this is so long but I needed to post my experience in its entirety. Denise73
  16. @@Lynne1029 I know how you feel about the clothes. Over the years because I've been a yo-yo dieter, I literally have a bunch of clothes for every size from a size 6 to size 16. I'll be alright for a little while. From year to year, I never knew what size I'd be so I just kept all my clothes.
  17. @@eagles321 I heard Tylenol was the best and only thing to take right before surgery. The other two will thin your blood. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

@@mrbobb Oh wow. Good for you Mr.Bobb. Tell me, do you feel like you're missing out on this wonderful opportunity? Aren't you curious as to what all the talk is about regarding this liquid protein diet? lol You know you can try it on your own. Hey, what can I say, misery loves company. lol It is amazing how each surgeon have different requirements for different people.

@@BrwnsugabayB lmbo. In my opinion, that's the best part of this phase. All this week, I must have gotten up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom about 10-15 times. Liquid in is liquid out. That is why we are losing so much so fast. We are not putting in fats, carbs, sugars etc. and flushing out alot of liquids and junk. It's a good thing. Imagine if our bodies held on to all the liquid we've been putting into our body. That's why one of the requirements of any weight loss program is to drink lots and lots of Water. It will all be over soon.
  23. You have time to lose the 5 pounds. What are you doing to lose? Perhaps you can add a Protein shake as a Meal Replacement for 1-2 meals and do some like exercise like walking. I'm sure you'll be fine. Most insurance companies/surgeons is more concerned with weight gain opposed to weight lost. There could be a number of reasons why you haven't lost so Im sure they will factor that in. I was told if I didn't lose as long as I didn't gain I would be fine. You'll do it. Let us know how things work out for you. Good luck.
  24. You should be able to do it. Have you been drinking a lot of Water? If your weight loss is what you think is slow, perhaps you can include a little exercise such as walking. You have enough time to lose 7 pounds and I'm sure you'll do it. Please keep us updated. We're rooting for you. Good luck.
  25. Hi, @ How many days do you have to lose the last 7 pounds? I'm sure if you lose any amount of weight they will do the surgery. I heard they just want to make sure you're committed to the plan and can actually put int he effort to lose some weight. If you can lose without the sleeve, you'll be able to make the lifestyle change and lose with the sleeve as a tool. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck.
