I started this journey with one quest: to get healthy. I was diagnosed with PCOS, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, along with other health issues. I had to get healthy to live! I could see the writing on the wall and that was that the end wasn't far if I didn't do something. I consider myself a professional dieter like most morbidly obese people. I know right from wrong but I just couldn't make it work for me. My endocrinologist had me on 5 different medicines including insulin and my numbers were horrid. RNY could help save my life. Had I considered it? No, I hadn't but just a year later, after much research, I was hopeful and submitted my life story to the insurance company. After jumping through their 6 months of hoops I was approved and had RNY on 3/3/14. I am grateful for their support and coverage. It is now my turn to make this work and that is what I am doing. I healed small, which is called an anastomotic stricture. I have had 2 outpatient procedures for this. I hope that is all I will need. My biggest challenge will be exercise. I never liked it in my life and I am hoping to overcome this challenge too. I am a survivor of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, also called GBS, which left me unable to walk and talk and I survived with just a few hitches so I know I am made up of the right stuff to conquer the challenges ahead in my life. I am strong! Ironic isn't it that I now have two GBS stories to tell!
