    Your NO-NO list

wow, how can you slime over a liquid?!!! i've never thought about that before. although, i was a HUGE sweet tea fan, but now, i think my unsweetend is sweetened. my son has to taste it for me to tell me that it isn't.
  3. i am going to have to try it soon. i can literally see white patches on my scalp from dandruff...and it's nasty. my skin is breaking out real bad too, any suggestions?

    Will I Change my Mind??

when i first replied to this thread, i was half asleep, so i only paid attention to the fee part. Even if i would have paid for the fee, i still do not regret my decision to go self pay. granted, i am only a month out, and im having sugar fits, but i can already tell how much my appetite has been curbed.

What is it with the superior 'oldies'!!

ok, ok, i'm an idiot and i was trying to hijack the thread, sorry i got lost in the moment, should have pm'd. i'm learning my forum manners, GIVE ME TIME PEOPLE! anyways, i just got all excited. i've already posted my view on here, oldies are great..not condescending. oh, and thanks for politely asking me to post elsewhere, but instead of doing a whole new thread when i'm only interested in your view, i pm'd.

What is it with the superior 'oldies'!!

coffee wench. you are the oldest bandster that i have seen. ok, let me rephrase, you have had your band for longer than i have seen anyone have their band on here. what inspiration!!!! i'm afraid that i won't be long term. i can't kick my sugar habit. i mean, i know i have to, but damn, i never knew it would be sooooooooooooo hard. i really think the diabetes hurts me too (as far as craving). i would like to make it one whole day without eating any sugar (regular sugar, like candy, chocolate, cookies). anyways..off subject, i know but..i'm so glad you are hanging around here. i'm sure you have much wisdom to share.
  10. Ok. My son was almost given a spinal tap last week for what they thought was meningitis. miraculously (i do not use that term lightly), he was "cured" while he was in the wheel chair on the way to ER from the Pediatric Clinic while we were there on our 2nd visit in the same week. anyways, he had some crazy virus (he has now had 2 of those, and each time he has some sort of bone marrow suppression, and his white blood cell count goes REALLY low)..we only pray that it never turns into anything serious. ok, well, this last week has been extremely stressful, and this is the week of the month for me that is HELL. so, i've had some sugar the last few days, and haven't been taking as much care of myself (i may lose my job due to my son causing me to miss work (i already missed a lot for me)). so, i haven't had a migraine since surgery. let me tell you, this is nothing short than a great victory for me. i have migraines twice a week usually. so i get this migraine today, and i am like "freakin' great." so, i e-mail my neuro to ask her to call in the maxalt, the skelaxin, and another pain medicine in case the 2 previous mentioned do not work. i get a maxalt from my boss to tie me over. i get off work, migraine is coming back. take my son to scouts, migraine is back. stop by the pharmacy and THEY DIDN'T CALL IT IN TODAY, EVEN THOUGH THEY SAID THEY WOULD. so, i go home, (oh yeah and i mentioned my child being sick because....) with a sour stomach, and a migraine (and i have been burping like CRAZY, with cramps and lots of fun stuff). so, i get home and decide that i have to remedy my migraine with what i have. so i take my last meprizine. no luck, i call the pharmacy to ask if i can crush darvacet. well, that almost made me throw up (the taste was unbearable), so i take 3 tylenol instead, knowing that not only will they not work, but they cause rebound headaches. so then, i call the pharmacist again to see if i can take the skelaxin after breaking it into quarters. she said yes ..ok, the 3rd quarter of the pill and the Water i was drinking came straight back up out of my mouth and onto the counter. OK, THAT WAS AMAZING. I felt like it wasn't going down, and then boom, it was right back up. i can't say it was a pb, because it didn't hurt and i didn't burp, so i am labeling it a "return". so now, i have swallowed 3 tylenol, 4 1/4's of a skelaxin, birth control pill, 2 multivitamin's, and i still have a freaking migraine. now i'm sitting here waiting for my homeade cocktail to go down, so i can take a phazyme and get rid of some of this pressure. has anyone else found themselves in a medical situation where their band hindered their treatment (i.e. couldn't take horse pills, etc.). i wasn't told by my doc that i couldn't take big pills, but i don't want to try it. has anyways else successfully swalling large pills not in a capsule form (i.e. darvocet, skelaxin). ok, so that was long, and boring, but i needed to share, and mainly i need to try to distract myself from some of this pain in hopes that all of those meds will kick in pretty soon, so i can go to sleep.
  11. i got the maxalt melts. i finally was able to get a couple of them filled today. last night was horrible. i was very frustrated, but the skelaxin caused everything to relax (that and 3 tylenol and 1 mepergim). so, i kicked it, and now i will be prepared for another one when it comes. i'm wondering if chocolate could be the culprit. it is TOM and this week is the first that i have eaten any significant chocolate (aside from a mini candy bar before). so i'm wondering if the dark chocolate has something in it. i just had a piece and i will see. but i do have good news, my cravings have nearly subsided today. that is good. really good.
  12. thank you for all of your posts. so far so good. unfortunately it appears that my son was not contagious, or if he was it is something that his father and i have already had. lol. i say unfortunately, because he keeps having weird stuff happen, and it really worries me sometimes.
  13. I'm so mad at my primary care physician, that i just told them, i will not be going to their office anymore. maybe you guys can help and let me know whether or not i have a right to be upset. ok, my son has been VERY sick this week. he has some sort of bug that has caused severe stomach cramps and then finally vomiting. they thought he had meningitis and were minutes away from doing spinal tap, when he began to get better. well, me being the prepared person that i am, i call my surgeon's office to ask about getting some anti nausea medicine called in, just in case i catch his illness. (my stomach is hurting today like i have a sour stomach). my surgeon says that i have to contact my pcp. so, i call my pcp (who by the way was in support of this), and my pcp says that she will not do it because it is not healthy. WELL NEITHER IS VOMITING!!!. I double checked with the nurse to make sure she knew i was banded and that i would only use it if i began to vomit. my doctor doesn't care, she's not doing it. wtf? why not? i understand that when you have vomiting and diarhea you are not supposed to stop it, because that is how the virus leaves your body, but i also understand that i am not supposed to throw up. so, am i overreacting? i called my surgeon back, and he is actually out of town, so he can't help me even if he would, so they gave me the medical exchange number to call if i do start to get sick, maybe they will help me. it looks like if i do get sick, i'll have to go to ER to get them to give me anything. has anyone else had this problem, and am i just being ridiculous to expect my pcp to help?

    band removal

my son had a brown recluse bite that became infected with mrsa when he was 4. it almost killed him. we were in the hospital on iv's for a week. the first two antibiotics would not kick it and the mrsa had spread to cover his buttocks and his entire left thigh. the wound finally burst and the infection began leaking out, also, the antibiotic began to work. they finally did surgery one the wound and removed a lot of the infection, but it was not pretty. that stuff can get bad really really fast, and it is quite contagious. i hope that you are able to get rid of it one way or another.

I have a full band yet can eat anything!!

you may not have to give up bread. each person is different in how they choose to work their band, and in what foods are tolerated. some people can eat bread, some people cannot, some people choose not to eat bread because they want to go the low carb version. my doctor's office has a philosophy that bread is a very good food to eat once you are healed and in moderation. it is a filler, and can help you consume less calories in a day. an example that he gave was a patient ate 3 hamburger patties instead of 1/2 of one hamburger with the bread. the 1/2 of one hambuger would have been about 1/3 of the calories. so, it depends on what you can handle and how you look at it. i have not had a fill yet, but i can eat bread now. although i have chosen not to do so because it scares me and it feels too thick to swallow. as far as this original thread's topic, my dr. office says very adamantly that we must limit our meals to 15 minutes because you can sit and eat for extended periods of time, if you eat slow enough. also, they say that if we are eating too much, then more than likely our foods are not dense enough. i don't know, i know for me, i have not had a fill yet, but i would not be able to even eat 1 whole piece of pizza. are you really stopping at satiety or are you stopping at engorgement. i would suggest an endoscopy and limiting and timing your meals, maybe more dense foods than pizza, and no drinks. but i'm new, and i really only know what i have read.

    2 Little ones

my dh would not allow me to "Rest" after surgery. my doc told him i was only allowed in the bed at night, and the rest of the day i needed to be up to prevent blood clots. I personally, was not happy with this part as i have had other surgeries before and was at least able to sleep off the anestesia. i had stomach pain, but i did not have bad gas pain. however, even if you feel WONDERFUL pain wise, you still will need time for the anestesia to wear off. it is funny to me now, because for about 48 hours i was in a catatonic state (not literally, of course), sitting and sleeping with my mouth open, head tilted to the side, drooling, and randomly joining earth and saying things like "just ignore me, i'm crazy, or i don't know what i'm talking about". see, their conversations were interrupting my sleep and i had no idea what was really being said and what wasn't. if i would have had to care for 2 small children it would have been disastrous, i simply was not there.

    Thanksgiving

i am choosing pumpkin pie because, i don't like turkey (it is too dry, but i like lunchmeat), sweet potatoe casserole, green bean casserole, cranberry relish or jelly, dressing, giblet gravy, pea salad, or many of the other traditional items. i guess i am a picky eater...lol. my mom usually makes stovetop for me as that is the only dressing i like (i guess i'm still young enough to be slightly spoiled). i will eat mashed potatoes, maybe, and i may try some corn.
  18. i'm sure that sugar is a trigger food. i used to think it was cheese and highly processed foods like lunch meat. but i have been eating that since surgery, and i have not had a migraine. now, i have been having some sugar often since surgery. i know, i have to stop, but this last week has been the worse. i even had ice cream 2 seperate times. so, i'm sure that the sugar was a trigger. the funny thing is, i told dh that i have to really pay attention to what new foods that i am eating to find out what my triggers are. should have seen the sugar, as yesterday and the day before were my two worse days. i have not ever heard that sugar can trigger the migraine. thank you all for your replys. i'm going to my neuro this morning to pick up my scripts (turns out they can't call one of them in, so they are writing all of them). i have my migraine under control, although last night i was VERY nauseous while i was sleeping. every time i would roll over, i would get motion sickness.

What is it with the superior 'oldies'!!

this is exactly how i feel. example: wasa told me plain and simple why i should not have eaten the Cookies. i didn't understand the squirming stomach (which believe it or not, i received a program via e-mail TODAY that i had to watch, and IT FINALLY told me about the squirming stomach $!#$! doctors) and told her my reasoning, and she explained it to me so that i could understand better. did i think she was acting "superior" hell no. was i upset that she told me the truth, you can slip your band, hell no. did some people feel the need to stick up for me because they thought i was being attacked, yes. but the truth is, i posted the fact that i cheated because i needed a swift kick in the head. and i should have saved the post, because wasa gave it to me. and i am deeply appreciative of it. if i post, i expect the good, the bad, and if necessary the ugly, and that may be exactly what i need. i have come to see that some people are very thin skinned. my feelings are not going to be hurt by someone's responses to my post. if all the member's of this forum were against me, then that means i need to re-analyze my position. otherwise, it is just one person's opinion. and we ask for it when we post.
  20. ahaaaa...perfect. i'm 5'2" also.
  21. thank you. and although sugar may be the culprit, i without fail always, always, get a migraine that lasts almost thru my period (sorry guys). i really need to consider skipping the blank pills. i was hoping it woudn't happen, but i didn't realize that my last period was before surgery. so i should have know. my dh pointed this out to me months ago. he says i'm always really "sick" the days before. i usually hurt all over and have a 3 day recurring migraine. he picked up on it before me. one day he was like "it must be almost time", because it is sooo bad.

    Disgusted

my dr's office philosophy is "if you can eat it, you will". they truly believe that proper restriction is what gets us to lose the weight. they say that if we could of done it with willpower, we would not have needed the surgery. now, i see a lot of different philosphies on this site, and this is my dr's opinion only. i understand what you are going through. (granted, there is no way that i could eat a md combo, i can barely eat 5 Wendy's nugges) But, i can eat Cookies, and i have been. i try not to let myself get guilty about it, because that only starts a vicous cycle. food is our addiction, it truly has to be handled that way. one slip up should not take you completely off of the path. pick yourself up, (maybe get a fill), and focus. (i'll need you to tell me all of this stuff again when i get to that point )
  23. how tall are you? very nice pictures!! awesome job! very encouraging, i am of similar build and frame (although i have you beat on the thighs..lol)...nice to know i can look that good.

Why's my band tighter at different times?

my doc says it is due to Water retention. he says that is why it gets bad during the monthly. he also said each body is different. my doc took me off of my diuretic after surgery, but i have had to take a lasix a couple of times due to edema. i've noticed that the more swollen i am, in terms of my hands, the tighter i feel (as if i even know what it feels like to be tight.i just know i'm not very hungry)

    Thanksgiving

i know this is weird, but since my surgery i have been craving PUMPKIN like crazy..thankfully it is the perfect time of year. so, if i have nothing else i will have pumpkin pie. i know, this is no good, but i believe we crave things for a reason, and darn it, i've been wanting pumpkin for over 4 weeks now, so pumpkin pie HERE I COME.... (i will probably not eat anything else, i know pumpkin seeds have a lot of protein, but what abou the actual pumpkin??)
