Excited to get sleeved, but afraid I will fail
MommaCEO replied to orlando's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I look at the surgery as an extra tool in the long journey to my goals. It is only a fraction of the solution. I still have to make the right food choices, get fit thru exercise and deal with the why of my eating. You might want to consider "the Beck Diet Solution" by Judith Beck. It is not a diet but a way of re-training your brain and it's relationship to food. My surgeons office recommends it and uses it in the support meeting. No matter what you choose, it will be your "work" to get you to where you want to be. I too have a friend who has lost about 60 but has stalled for 6 months and still has more to loose. From the start mere weeks after surgery she was making horrible food choices and continues to do so. If we don't fix the what we eat and the why our success will be affected. -

I have a killer headache and I'm still drinking caffeine. Hurts to keep my head upright. Point being you might get a headache the first day or 2. I'm dreading trying to function at work tomorrow. I did drive 330 mikes today with 2 kids and a puppy. -

I don't work full time.. My surgery is on tue the 10th and I plan on working on the next Monday and a trip on Tuesday. 3 of my friends had the VSG. They were all up and going within a week. Who knows. I'm allowed to have coffee or black tea so at least no headaches from that. My surgery is local. I'm in Orange County CA Struggling today with liquids. I have headache that won't go away. -

Telling people - that's touchy for me. There is a very very small part of me thinks that the surgery is a cop-out and I should be able to do it on my own. But I am and honest person so I don't think I could keep it secret. Plus my husband has already told people and my close circle of friends know (2 of which had a VSG) I chose to eat dinner tonight on my day 1. I'm at my dads and he had neighbors over. He over cooked and I didn't want to have to explain myself to strangers. so I think eating at a bridal shower is fine. Eat your shake before and barely eat there. I think my dr does 14 days liquids (milk ok, I do 2%) is to prep you for the after too. I think maybe the better adjusted you are the less you have to stress about post surgery..some people aren't required to do liquids pre sx. -

It is amazing how different each dr's surgery prep is. I have 14 days of 4 Protein shakes. I think I would rather have a sensible dinner option. I told my kids I might be a bit cranky today and explained I am only doing protein shakes. My 10 year old understands. He often has a protein and milk drink. The food funeral thing is totally wrong, I know it. Someday when I am down in weight I (we) will be able to moderately have indulgent foods on rare occasions. The key is moderation, control and rarity. I have a few friends who had a VSG. They said the key was to follow the rules. One dr told my friend to eat a bite every 10 min. Right now I can't even imagine that. Each friend who had the SX has a totally different story. More later. Let's just say 2 of them have been stalled since dec with a June and July 2013 surgery dates. The both have at least 40 pounds left. One of my weird fears is losing weight too fast and I will lose muscle tone and be floppy everywhere. I am a classic apple shape with decent muscle tone. My tone was much better a year ago but it's been a rough lazy year for me. Big chest and huge belly with tiny legs and normal arms. I know I will have a skin issue on my stomach. Without a doubt. -

I'm June 10. Have you posted in the "any June 2014 sleevers" -
My dr requires 14 days liquids. Protein with either milk or water 4 times. Broth or jello or sugar free Popsicles if needed. No herbs or herbal tea. No NSAIDs. Coffee and tea are fine. Strange of everyone is different. Mine is laparoscopic which I thought they all are. Maybe not.

Starting pre op liquids on Monday 5/26. No BBQ for me. Any tips on keeping headaches and crankiness away. I have to drive 330 miles to go home on tue and back to work on wed. I'm a bit worried about being foggy headed and loopy.

I have Aetna HMO. It was my medical group that required the 6 months of visits.

Hi I have been waiting since Nov 2013 and I finally got a surgery date. Just yesterday 5/20 I received my date of 6/10. So much to do between now and then. I feel like a chicken with my head cut off. I start pre-op diet on 5/26. I am desperately trying to find a Meal Replacement without artificial sweeteners. I haven't used artificial sweeteners in 8 years. I am nervous and excited at the same time. Not looking forward to the first day or so on liquids. I might be crazy but I have a trip planned a week after my surgery. amy
