    Snow and surgery!

Thanks everyone ! I am in northwestern Wisconsin about 3 hours northeast of Minneapolis. We made it to the hotel around 11am safe and sound. The hotel let us check in early and is only 5 minutes from the hospital. Hopefully the snow wraps up tonight or tomorrow morning and my hubby can make it back home safely

Had the surgery two days ago

Congratulations! I am glad everything went well and you are home. Thank you for posting such a detailed account. I am scheduled for early Tuesday morning and your account has helped ease my mind. Everyone keeps asking if I am worried too and I am not. Like you I am comfortable with my research and the surgeon I chose. I was beginning to think something was wrong with me. I don't look forward to surgery and recovery but I do look forward to continuing this journey. Please keep us updated with your progress and I can't wait to read about your journey.

What is everyone elses pre-op diet?

Mine is a 14 day diet with the last day being clear liquids. I had to purchase 2 weeks of Proti diet products from my surgeon's office. Breakfast is one Proti packet Mid morning snack is another proti packet lunch is one Proti packet and my choice of: 2oz lean meat, or 2 eggs, or 1 Proti packet Mid afternoon snack is one Proti packet dinner is one 2oz serving of lean meat, 1 starch, 1 fruit serving I am also allowed unlimited non starchy vegetables all day. Plus the required 64+ ounces of Water everyday. It has really been manageable and I have not been hungry at all. I am actually having difficulty getting all of the servings in. The unlimited vegetables is really nice if I ever happen to need a snack or want to chew something. I am 10 days in to the diet and scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. I have to give you guys credit because some of those pre-op diets you have would have been extremely difficult!

    Pre op diet slips

The second day of my preop diet I ate a half of a cheeseburger before I remembered I wasn't supposed to be eating it. I felt so awful and almot cried because I thought I ruined everything. I called and the nurse told me not to worry so much and I would be fine to continue with my scheduled surgery date. Don't beat yourself up over it and just vow to do better from this point on . You can't change the past.

    could it get worse?

Absolutely need to force the issue with them and get it submitted to insurance now. There is no reason to wait 4-6 weeks to submit. Why would they even do that? Do you have any other surgeons in the area you could possibly switch to ?

second thoughts about the surgery :(

Honestly, if you weren't second guessing such a life changing decision I would be much more worried. Remember what brought you to this decision and why you worked so hard to get insurance approval and you will know you made the right choice. Any change can be feared, but the right changes you know in your heart they are good. Hang in there and keep your eye on the prize. You are working for a healthier future!

    Disney World.... Help....

Good luck and remember to have fun. I hope you have a wonderful time!
  14. You will get the best information about the timeline by asking your surgeon's office, and the surgical coordinator if your office has one . Many offices run on their timeline and not so much on ours (the patients). I was trying desperately to speed the process up and no matter what I did to get everything done, my surgery still wasn't scheduled until 11/11. I started everything in May. So my best advice is to call your surgeons office and ask what their timeline is and when you can expect your surgery to be scheduled. Sorry I can't help you more and good luck!

The true evil of Halloween - candy

Halloween candy is evil ! I am on my pre-op diet and just got back from taking my boys trick or treating. Fortunately, we live in the major boonies so we do not get trick or treaters here. I didn't have any candy in my house to fight against. Now I think I am going to have the kids keep their candy bag upstairs just to keep the temptation out of sight. I can't walk up and down the stairs in my house so it would be safe there . We always go out to eat dinner on Halloween. We went to a local restaurant and I had a side salad no cheese, fat free dressing on the side and a bowl of tomato basil Soup. I stayed on my pre op diet eating out which is an accomplishment! Stay strong everyone! The few minutes of good taste isn't worth the calories or self recrimination after eating it!

Water Schedule! So easy and fun :)

Thanks for sharing! I will have to file that away in case water becomes a difficulty post op. I drink water like someone is going to take it away now and I can't imagine struggling to get enough in. I think that is the one thing that bothers me most about surgery.

    Maintaining Her down there

Since this topic is already going, I have a few questions. I stay pretty close to natural with trimming and a bit of edging work, but that is as far as I go. I am interested in trying other methods of landscaping but I am worried. How bad does waxing hurt, really? I know when my eyebrows are waxed it isn't exactly pleasant and then I am swollen and angry red for about 24 hours. I can only imagine what would happen with a Brazilian. For shaving, doesn't that itch horribly ? I really don't want to have unbearable itching down below caused by something I voluntarily subjected myself to. I truly am interested in trying something new, but I am a little gun shy. Thanks for sharing your experiences and perspectives.

    Food Business

You have a great idea! My suggestion is to make sure the meals are made with quality, organic ingredients and no artificial chemicals or colors. Bariatric surgery patients need to make sure every bite is the best thing they can eat and every bite counts. I think the idea is definitely worth perusing and researching further! Good luck and let us know when your meals are available for purchase!

    Where are the November Sleevers?

I started my pre-op diet today, a week early. I am scheduled to start my pre-op diet 10/28/14, but voluntarily chose to start a week early because I can not take a chance of my surgery being aborted. My liver enzymes have been elevated for some time and I really need to work on getting this liver as healthy as it can before surgery. I had to coordinate way too many things to keep my family and household running smoothly while I am down. Fortunately, the pre-op diet is rather manageable. The hardest part will be no carbs, sugar, caffeine, and all of the other good stuff no longer being an option. This is my office's pre-op diet: (please keep in mind I had to purchase the proti / bariatrix packets from surgeon's office) Breakfast- 1 packet of Proti/ Bariatrix Mid morning- 1 packet Proti/ Bariatrix lunch- 1 packet Proti/ bariatrix PLUS 2oz lean meat-or-1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese-or- 2 eggs cooked w/out fat -or- another packet of Proti/ Bariatrix Mid afternoon 1 packet of Proti/ Bariatrix dinner 2 oz lean meat + 1 serving starch + 1 serving fruit + unlimited vegetables Plus unlimited non starchy vegetables are allowed throughout the day as needed to help combat hunger. It is also required to drink 64 oz plus of Water daily. I am fortunate unlimited vegetables are allowed to keep hunger at bay. I also made sure to take all of my measurements this morning and weighed myself too. It almost made me sick to know how big I am in hard numbers. I look forward to watching those numbers slowly decrease into normal ranges. I am working on packaging up all of the garbage food in the house for my sons and putting it in the garage. They can have it, but I do not want it in here tempting me and calling my name when I am feeling weak! Here goes nothing! One step closer to surgery.
  22. Good afternoon! I am scheduled to start my pre-op diet on 10/28/14 per my surgeon's office for my VSG scheduled on 11/11. I have been really contemplating starting my pre-op diet a week early for several reasons. First, my liver enzymes have been steadily increasing for the last 3 years and my pcp said I have a fatty liver which we all know is a risky condition with laparoscopic surgery. I do not want any chance of my surgery being aborted. I have had to make a lot of plans and organize a lot of our life to make this surgery happen while keeping my household operating while I am down. I have also met all of my out of pocket obligations with my insurance for the year. The holiday season will be upon us shortly along with a planned family vacation at the end of January. Surgery has to happen now or it will be a while before I can get everything into position again to make surgery possible at a later date. So with all of that, I am opting to start my pre-op diet a week early and do a 3 week diet instead of a 2 week diet. My surgeon's office is aware I am doing this and they are fine with it. They are baffled that someone would voluntarily submit themselves to another week of this diet when it wasn't required, but they understand why I am making this decision. Besides, an extra week of losing weight before surgery is less weight I will have to lose after surgery. Every ounce matters and every ounce lost will make surgery and recovery that bit easier. I am now trying to find a form of some type to keep track of my weight and body measurements on paper. I am also making a daily check sheet to make sure I follow my diet and get everything in that I should. So tonight I am enjoying pizza for dinner with diet coke to drink followed by a glass of wine and a caramel sundae for dessert. Tomorrow my new life and the journey to a better me begins! It is exciting and terrifying at the same time. Let's get this show on the road!

    Where are the November Sleevers?

November 11th here! I am scheduled to do my pre-op H&P (including EKG, chest x-ray, lab work, etc ) on 10/22. My pre-op diet is scheduled to start 10/28, but I am really thinking about starting it 10/21 to make sure my liver shrinks enough to reduce the risk of surgery being cancelled. My liver labs were a bit elevated a few months ago and I don't even want to chance having my surgery cancelled once they cut me open. If I lose a few extra pounds before surgery that is a little bit more that I am ahead of the game on!
