I am a principal and will be having surgery July 14. Kinda nervous if I will be in shape enough to deliver staff development and work the bus line next month, but I know I certainly wouldn't be holding up well without the surgery either. My doctor says a week but I'm thinking of taking a week and then doing half days the next week until I get strength back.

Looking for July Sleevers!
GottaDoSomethin' replied to fearnot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm July 14th! I can't believe the process had happened so quickly. Just had my first appointment the last week of May. Still have quite a few fears and reservations. To top it off, I started a new job today so this is a lot of change to handle at once! -
I'm still confused about meds post surgery. What do you take when you have a headache? Sinus congestion? Can't sleep? Are we still able to digest these without complications?
-
What OTCs do you take?

I just can't imagine never taking ibuprofen again. Right now I have an ear infection and that is all that helps. I'm afraid that's a bigger loss than any particular food. What's happens if I develop illnesses later in life that have a great deal of pain? -

Need help with what to tell work.

Thanks so much for this thread. I'm struggling with the same thing. I got a promotion and start my new position July 1st but am hoping to have surgery sometime in July. Of course, my employer doesn't know about the surgery yet since I didn't want to reveal that in the interview. It's difficult for me to take time off with a new position but I can't wait because my company is changing insurance providers in Sept and the new insurance company does not cover WLS the same. I am just going to tell them I am having laparoscopic surgery that has been in the works awhile. They might be upset initially but they will be ok once I'm back, right? -

Congrats on the triumph! Enjoy your newfound freedom on vacation and snap, snap, snap those photos to capture how you feel and not just how you look! -
Shopping for an outfit for an interview tomorrow. Quite possibly the worst experience of my life as the size 26 clothes are more like tents than shirts and pants. Surgery and a new life can't get here fast enough!!!

Update: After leaving Catherine's a feeling a little better since I found an OK outfit, my phone was stolen at The Shoe Depot! I will now have to pay a 200 dollar deductible for a new phone, which makes this outfit pretty darn expensive. Worse, I lost many photos and videos of my two-year-old that I will never be able to get back. All and all, not a great shopping trip! -
I am waiting on a surgery date for VSG and have decided to make some of the changes recommended by the NUT. I've cut out soda and caffeine, limited drinking while eating... And then I've stopped. I still find myself in the pantry digging for chips and lil Debbie's even though I have cashews and chicken and veggies I could eat. Does this mean I'm not ready for surgery?

body attitude change after you made the decision for WLS?
GottaDoSomethin' replied to mamaofmatthew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am the same way. It's like I'm more aware of my size than ever. All the more reason for a drastic change. We had become too comfortable being large and were able to ignore it. -

Holy makeover! You looks great! What are you stats? Did you have a TT or are you that fortunate to look so great with no loose skin? -

Thanks for the inspirational story. Congrats on the feeling of empowerment. -
Oh my goodness! Definitely not third date material. I agree with calling a cab. Think of it as one less person you have to waste time dating before you find the one.

I've read on this forum that may take weeks or months to feeling normal again after surgery. Can anyone offer advice what that's like with a toddler at home begging to be played with?

I see tons of success stories on this site whether they be biggest losers or slow losers or even people with complications. And yet I have heard of people gaining all their weight back. How does that happen? Does the stomach stretch back out? Can you really gain that much weight on a few bites a meal, even if it is a slider food?

What a strange trip this is - surgery 5-29
GottaDoSomethin' replied to hrhlaurie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just read this thread from the beginning and it describes my thought process exactly. Each minute I alternate between thinking this surgery could save my life or give me a life I'm not happy with. I applaud your resolve to go through with the surgery and wish you the best on your continued journey. -
Why does the sleeve fail?
GottaDoSomethin' replied to GottaDoSomethin''s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If that is the case, is WLS just a better tool than everything else we have tried? Does WLS have better results than Weight Watchers or HCG shots or Paleo or Slimfast or all the other diets out there? <------ Just a newbie searching for answers -

Find something to do; keeping reading posts on this forum for inspiration, whatever works to take your mind off food. It's your mind not your tummy talking to you. Why did you have to go back in for emergency surgery?
