Money out of pocket day of procedure
sunnkistme replied to zcortes21's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was approved last week and had assumed that because I have more than met my copay and deductible I am covered at 100%. The Hospital called for pre-registration for Monday's surgery. THe woman informed me that I had a 1000.00 copay for hospital. WTF.....Fortunately I have an emergency credit card. I am out of pocket 7500.00 (8500 with this mess) I called BCBS and they said I do not owe the 1000.00 so they called the hospital. The hospital insists that I do. My plan says that the 1000.00 hospital stay deductible counts toward my max out of pocket for the year. Any advice would be appreciated. -
November 3 is coming fast
sunnkistme replied to MyKidsMom89's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am going in on November 3rd too. I am very excited. After six months of supervised diet we submitted to insurance last Wednesday, I was approved this Monday then the surgeon's office called and said they had an opening this Monday. What a whirlwind. -

My out of pocket maximum for the year is 8500.00 and somehow I have met it. I may never have disposable income again! -
Purpose of weigh ins
sunnkistme replied to Timmy2shirts's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my 6th and final weigh in. During this time I had to stay at the exact same weight as my BMI is 40.1. My surgeon said he thinks the insurance just wants people to get frustrated and drop out. -

Lumpy red rash on left hip, apron 5 days out of surgery
sunnkistme replied to smiley922's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it could be cellulitis. probably a good idea to call your surgeon or your PCP. -
I have CA BLue Shield through my employer. I am in the last 3 days of my 6 month supervised diet. I have completed all of the tests. I am battling BS about one test that my surgeon required and BS does not want to pay for because they say that I did not have pre approval for tests required for Barbaric Surgery. I believe once I am approved they will pay. We submit Wednesday for approval. I will post when/if I am approved .

WLS & Mental Illness.
sunnkistme replied to Eumoirous's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What a great question. I would think there would be much better chance to find a surgeon if your therapist and psychiatrist are on board. Would they give their OK before you start your surgeon search? -
I have 12 more days to go until the end of my six months of supervised diet. All of my tests are out of the way and we can submit for approval after my next visit. I am just at 40 BMI and, other than arthritis, have no co morbidities so it might be challenging to get approval. I am so worried as my out of pocket this year was 8500.00. I can not afford to do this again next year. My surgeon is on notice that time is a big issue for me since we change plans 12/1/14. Have you told any of your friends or family yet? I am telling very few people and so far the two I was most worried about have been fantastic.

I help my parents out a lot -all of the other sibs are out of state or not available - I have not heard anyone describe the way I anticipate my mom reacting better. " She did not want anything to happen that might disturb my caregiving.." That is exactly why I do not want to address the issue with my mom. My daughter and son in law have promised me they will run interference for me so I do not have to tell her. I dread the whole drama. As she has gotten older she has become increasingly more self focused and less willing to listen to the opinion of others. That said, I love her dearly but do get tired.

100 Reasons To Exercise Now
sunnkistme replied to Miss Mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for this post. Exactly the encouragement I needed. -
Two of my tests came back as not covered. (3000.00) I phoned the insurance and asked them why, if the tests were required for surgery, were they not covered? I was told that I needed approval for pre-surgery tests. I phoned my surgeon's insurance coordinator who contacted BCBS. I am not sure what she did but all of the tests have been paid now - as were the two that were denied as non-covered.

Did you use sick time or short term disability?
sunnkistme replied to Kathy812's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If your company has fewer than 50 employees it does not have to follow FMLA laws. Most companies still allow for time off but be sure. My small company will allow up to 12 weeks off and our handbook allows for unpaid leaves of absence, but they are not required to. We just have benefit time not sick/vacation. I have been saving my time and have enough to take plenty of time. I think I am going to take 2 full weeks and then go back 1/2 time for 2 or three more weeks. -
I would check again. I have never heard of it being that easy. You can ask that they send or e-mail you a copy of their requirements. Hopefully it will be that easy!

Taking the train!
sunnkistme replied to jspitznogle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Ohhh.. I see now. I was just looking at trains with actual stations instead of stops within driving distance of your town. Not knowing the area. The one I looked at was on the CA Zephyr line which does change to busses in Sacramento and Bakersfield. Not having to change to busses makes a huge difference. -
Taking the train!
sunnkistme replied to jspitznogle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I checked the route.. and it is not all train. You have to move from the train to busses two times. There is no place to take a shower. I leave my bag in the overhead and take my valuables with me when I go to other cars. There is also no checked baggage for one part of the route. You might consider asking for a prescription for a few Valium and hop on a plane . If you search Kayak and other sites it might be affordable. I do not mind the train and have learned to enjoy it but... I would be concerned about clots when sitting for 40 hours on the train.
