embracing skinniness

I have begun the process of the Bariatric Sleeve with Kaiser in San Diego. I went for my orientation and just completed my blood testing and my EKG this week. I am super excited to get this started as I have been doing the up and down dieting for 10 years now. I am 34 5'2" and weight 237, I am wondering if anyone is starting with Kaiser San Diego and we can move through this as a team and help each other out!

I am knew to this and I have Kaiser San Diego and was wondering if anyone was around San Diego and can refer me to some support groups around this area. I'm still in my classes at Kaiser so my surgery should be around February 2015.

Hi lildawtee, thanks for the info very helpful and yes it is good to hear good and bad from different people. What support groups are you talking about, I'd like to go as well? I have checked youtube and there is a lot of helpful videos on there. My class is fun we all have a good time and my teacher is fun as well! We definitely need to all stay in touch in my class and make a Facebook, Im going to see if they all would like to do it, good idea! Thanks again for the info it is much appreciated!

AAAAAWWWWWWW YAAAAA!!! Im so excited for you, you have to make sure and let me know how it goes and all the goods and bad's! I can't wait! The class was good, the teacher is funny and entertaining so I think it will be okay. It went by super fast and was interesting, so many questions were answered in 1 session so Im excited to see what the rest will be. Im so happy for you! Do you have to do the pre surgery liquid diet?

I totally feel for you that would be so frustrating and I agree with you to. Maybe he signed off though because he thinks you are fine and the timing has been long enough. Did they call you back yet?

Ugh that would not make me happy if they did that because it would get my hopes up and then if they made a mistake then Id probably cry! Maybe he did say okay because its been long enough and hasn't seen any changes for worse! Let me know what they say hopefully its good news!!

I am super excited!! I hope the BMI isn't going to effect anything Im are it won't but I will ask them when I start tomorrow to make sure. I just want to start and keep going, Im tired of being fat and my Triglycerides are extremely high so now Im worried about it constantly. How many more weeks do you have to see the doctor before you can schedule surgery?

Okay I was just wondering because I am 5'2" and weight 240, if I lose 10% thats 23 pounds (ugh) then I will weight 216 and my BMI would be under 40 so I don't want to go through all of that and then they deny me because my BMI is not high enough if that makes sense. If I lose 5% its 12 lbs and I can do that so I was just wondering.

Questions? did you lose weight during the options program and if you didn't or only lost a small amount, did the doctor tell you that you had to lose more before surgery?

Awww sorry to hear about you dog, I have a Pug named Bella and she is my baby she is more spoiled that the kids! She was bit by a snake last year when we were at my parents and pulled through it was amazing that she did! Im sure everything will be okay ! Barbara said my teacher will be Lee, I think its a male

I just got the call for the Options classes woohoo! Im starting on June 26th at 7:00pm! Im super excited

I would be frustrated to I completely understand. You feel like you have been waiting long enough and now it's time. I would not be happy either. I don't understand why you have to wait 6 months if you have been fine the last couple of months on the meds and have had no issues.

I know it is kind of Lame, its already been a few months since you have had the issue anyway so I don't understand what the issue is. Make sure you let me know when the surgery is, I also want to know how everything goes after as well! What is your doctors name?

Ugh NO!! Dr Ray said a week so when they didn't call me I called the office and they said it is actually 2-3 weeks. Im on my second week of waiting now, tomorrow will be going into week 3 so hopefully ill hear something this week. How long did it take you to get the call? That sucks for you and I totally understand, It will come soon you are right there! How long do you have to wait?

YEAH!! You're almost there and I know it must be hard waiting for a date because you are right there! Im excited for you and Im glad to hear the surgeon is great and the Pysch visit went good. Let me know when your date is. I already did all of my labs and I met with Dr. Ray, now I am waiting for them to call me to get my class date, I went last Wednesday so I guess I should here back next week maybe. I am not a patient person and I want to start the classes so I think they need to hurry up! I hope you are feeling better sorry you had to go through the Pulmonary Emolism but Im glad you are better now and on your way!

I am starting the gastric sleeve journey and have been at it for about 2 months. I was approved by Kaiser and I am now waiting to hear from them to take my options class. I let my mom know what I am doing and she seemed excited for me, my husband it super supportive, and our 6 boys say "whatever makes you happy mom, but we think you are beautiful." My mom told my dad, Aunt and Uncle (who we are all close to) and everyone says "why can't she just diet and excersize." When my mom told me this it left me furious, I felt that it was not a fair statement to make and for the past 11 years I have done all of that, it didn't work.. obviously. My question is, who has gone through this and what did you say to them? I am so mad I don't even know what to say to them and I tell it like it is even if you don't want to hear it so I don't want to pop off at the mouth and say something I may regret!

I think all women in my family have had some sort of plastic surgery except me, Im not saying its bad because I would love some myself but you're right don't bash because I don't look like you! Being in San Diego for some reason I think makes it worse to be overweight and not have plastic surgery.

Yes, I am taking my mom to the Surgeons class I have to attend. I told her she needs to go and doesn't have a choice! If she talks to the doctor then I know she will be able to stick up for me a little more.

There is nothing like not having your damn family support you, it sucks!! I guess we just have to remember that this is OUR decision and OUR health and forget what they are going through!! Yes, if we don't do this we will and not even live to be old. OBVIOUSLY we have tried everything if we hadn't then we would be healthy and physically fit but we aren't so we need help. Lets all stay focused and Im going to Buffleheads quote so I am being nice and honest but also telling them to shut it at the same time!!! Everyones comments are well appreciated thanks!
