    4 month post op! Opinions

Surgery was Oct. 8 so I am just at the 4 month mark. Lost 90 pounds in that time. I track everything I eat, do not cheat...ever, and work out 5 days a week.
  2. Today is my 4 month post surgery anniversary. Last time I weighed in was two weeks ago at which time I was down about 80 lbs. since my sleeve. Recently, my blood work came back perfect. I also just had another sleep study and was told by my sleep doc that I do my have sleep apnea anymore. Now, after 10 years, I no longer use or need a CPAP. I buy clothes in regular stores now. I don't have to worry about whether or not I'll fit in the booth at restaurants. I just got back from a business meeting in Florida this past week and didn't worry for one second if I'd finally be "that guy" that was told he needed another ticket, or be "that guy" that no one wants sitting next to him or her...spilling into their seat. I've had countless people literally gasp when they see me now after not having seen me for several months. My knees don't hurt, I'm not tired all the time, and I'm much, much happier. I haven't regretted this surgery for one nanosecond. I do however, think YOU have to be ready to hit this deal head on. I read a lot of posts on here where people are still mourning their old habits. I don't. I look forward. I want to live a long, healthy, happy life and this gastric sleeve has literally changed mine for the better. Good luck to you.
  3. Nothing. Little sore for a couple days, but other than that not a thing. Didn't even need pain meds. Eating was not an issue either. I'm careful to track and measure everything. Sleeved October 8. Down 80 lbs. Got blood work back couple weeks ago and everything is great! Had another sleep study two weeks ago. Met with the sleep doc last week. OSA is gone. And so is the CPAP. Life is good.
  4. I have Aetna and was told that gaining weight was a deal breaker. It seems ridiculous because the reason all of us are/were looking into the surgery is because controlling our weight is so dang hard. I will tell you this, my surgery was the absolute best thing I've ever done. I'm just under 4 months post op and I feel like a new person. My point is, I would move heaven and earth to get your weight under where it needs to be so you don't disqualify yourself. I'd find out if you can move your appointment back and get serious about trying to get off what you've gained. Also, after surgery the hard work begins. It's not a silver bullet. You've got to be diligent and very serious about eating right, exercising, and following your plan. It could be that you're not ready for this yet.

    Snoring!

Just wondering, how do you know you don't have Obstructive Sleep Apnea? If you are overweight and snoring it is quite possible you do unless you've had a sleep study. And your GP wouldn't be the one to ask, a Pulmonologist who's boarded in Sleep Medicine would be. I can tell you, having dealt with OSA myself, it is very important to treat. Puts you at higher risk for all sorts of comorbid conditions...diabetes, high blood pressure, daytime sleepiness, depression, memory loss, headaches, stroke. Anyway, I'm no doc but if definitely keep an eye on that snoring. Good luck!

    Snoring!

I actually had a follow up appointment with my Sleep Doc this morning. I've been on a CPAP for several years. However, since I've lost weight (75lbs. since Oct. 8 surgery) the pressure was waaaay too high. So, I went to see the doc just before New Years hoping to have he pressure adjusted. He told me it was likely my apnea was gone. I had another sleep study last week and lie I said, met with him this am. He said I was not showing any signs of OSA. This was great news because I thought this would happen around this summer. He told me I didn't need the CPAP any more. Was really great to hear! Good luck to you but I would strongly suggest going to a sleep specialist and having a sleep study.

    anybody here do kickboxing?

I go to a place called 9round fitness. It's defianately kickboxing. Started 4 weeks post op and go 5 times per week. I love it. Much better than the traditional gym. Everyone is there to work out. No TVs, no snack bar, no socializing. I pull up, walk in, work hard and I'm outta there in about 30 minutes. May not be for everyone but it was right for me. Down about 72 lbs. since my surgery October 8. Happy with the results so far. Good luck
  9. I've been using the myfitnesspal app every day for almost two months. I think it's a great tool to keep track of what I'm eating. I'm probably averaging 800 calories a day. I've never had a protein shake and eat real food, mostly protien with some healthy fats (almonds and avocado) mixed in. I eat 5 times per day and average probably 1 cup of food per meal. I also bust my tail at the gym 5 days per week. Been pretty happy with my results. I'm down just over 70 pounds since my surgery on October 8. Actually lost 6 pounds last week. Some weeks I lose more than others. Anyway, sounds like you are on a good path. Best of luck to you!

    What scale do you reccomend?

I bought this one on Amazon. Seems to be a real good product. Been happy with it.

    How often do you weigh?

First thing every Monday morning. I record it in Myfitnesspal and I move on.
  12. I started at 4 week mark per my docs ok. He had said it would be 4-6 weeks. I had 0.0 issues after surgery and started hard at it at that time. Good luck.

October 2014 sleevers check in please!

I think you absolutely look different. Congrats. I had my sleeve on Oct. 8. First few weeks I had lost a decent amount but, like you, not everyone noticed. It started to bother me but I kinda just decided not to let it moving forward. Now I'm down just over 55 pounds as of this am (I weigh ONE time per week) Now, I get complimented constantly by friends and people in haven't seen for awhile. In fact yesterday I got stopped twice by friends I haven't seen since surgery while shopping Best Buy and by my neighbor when I got home. They all were incredibly nice and went on and on. People now notice and it's nice, it kinda reaffirms my choice a little bit. I'm telling you if you stay the course, follow your plan and get in some exercise you will hear the compliments...constantly. Another thing, I can tell you that I have noticed people that I'm sure have lost weight and haven't always said something. I think it's human nature a bit. Depending on your relationship with thembthey may think that saying something may be too personal, or intrusive. I know I've felt that way. So, know that you definitely look thinner, and probably alot more people have noticed your shrinking size than have led on. Merry Christmas.
  14. I think I was told to avoid lifting too much...anything weighing more than a gallon of milk...for a fee weeks. I got the OK from my doc to start working out at the 4 week post op point. But, I'd had no issues after surgery. Anyway, been doing intense kickboxing type circuit training ever since. 5 days a week.
  15. I didn't have a stall at 3 weeks. I had one at weeks 6 and 7 (a little less than 2 each week) Then lost 6 on week 8. Upped my fat intake a bit. (Avocado, small amount of cheese, etc.) Seemed to work. But, like everyone on here suggests I'd stay the course and follow your plan. I log every workout, my weekly Monday morning weigh-ins, and ALL my food on an app called MyFitnessPal. I've become a believer in "writing" it down. Then you know exactly what you are doing. You eat fewer calories than you did in your old life, get more exercise, and choose the right foods you will lose weight over time and become markedly more healthy. It's biology.

4 days post op and hungry

I'm two months post op. Felt the same as you. However, I've had to relearn what being hungry actually feels like. I definitely get hungry now but once I eat all is good. I will tell you that it gets better. The surgery for me was not a silver bullet. You have to eat the right foods, the right amounts, and with the right frequency. But, I couldn't be happier with my results. I'm down 48 lbs. since my October 8 surgery. I kinda thought that after the surgery I'd never ever be hungry and that just isn't the case...with me. I'd say follow the doctors orders, take your eating and exercise seriously and you'll be just fine. Good luck to you.

    Hair

From what I've read the hair that you lose will eventually grow back. Is this accurate? Also, any supplements that are commonly taken to help prevent it?

    Avacado

I'm thinking I should add a bit of healthy fats in my diet. You guys ever eat Avacado? Thoughts? If so, how much?
  19. I'm 43 years old. Gastric sleeve done October 8 so I'm just approaching my 2 month post op. 327 and change day of surgery. 282 on the button right now. Feel like a new person already..physically and mentally. And it's more than pounds lost.
  20. I was very inconsistent with the liquid diet. Was more than a little concerned that I'd have to be opened up when I had my sleeve done. Doc told me that was a possibility if my liver was too large. Anyway, went in to surgery, woke up, found out it went perfect. Been absolutely compliant with diet and exercise since surgery in October 8. Life is good. Not telling you to blow off your liquid diet in anyway. I actually wish I had done better. I'm down 47 pounds since surgery. Would've been down even more had I done what I was told. Do your best.

    Tailbone problems anyone?

Lol. I was just telling my wife about this!!! My problem too. Went to see a movie the other day and had to shift around for two hours. Hoping as I go down in weight it goes away. I'm not real big on having to sit on a special pillow.

How fast do you drink your liquids?

I'm about 8 weeks out. Early on I wondered a couple times if I'd actually has the surgery. Usually when I drank some water. But most every time I eat I'm reminded it really did happen. lol. Drinking is just easier for me I guess. But I also don't overdue it.

    Scale vs Clothes

A timely post for me. I weigh in once a week...that's it. Every Monday am. Last two weeks I lost about 2 pounds each week. I was floored. I "felt" like it was a lot more. I've been watching my diet very closely, logging meals, and have not had one single thing I shouldn't have. I also started working out at a boxing/crosstraining gym 3 weeks ago and have been busting my tail. 4-6 times per week. Burn about 650-750 calories per session. Averaging about 600-700 calories per day mostly protein. So you could see why I was a little bent when I didn't see the needle move like I was anticipating. I'm down just over 40 lbs. since my surgery on October 8. Was not expecting a stall this soon. Anyway, my clothing, without question, fits better. Have donated a lot already. Spoke to my nutritionist and a PA at the surgeons office today and was told to stay the course and focus on how things fit. So, I'm trying to do just that. I'm hoping like heck I have a good loss after this week.
