Here is my story. I am 68 years old and a Breast Cancer Survivor of 2.5 years. The chemo, radiation and steroids( Years of asthma treatment) left me with ostheopenia...a slow deterioration of my bones. I also gain 30 lbs despite 6 hours a week of vigorous water aerobic during the winter and more in the summer in our pool. I tried EVERYTHING. The oncologist said that it extremely hard to loose weight on the cancer pill I am taking. So I was in a catch 22. Need weight bearing exercise for my bones but my bones were having trouble bearing my body weight. 2 years ago, my asthma doctor suggest gastric sleeve surgery but I was a tired of being cut up so I said no. Sleep apnea was getting worse, blood pressure problems, acid reflux ...and facing a trip with my granddaughter that would require walking, I decided to go ahead with it. My oncologist was all for it. I had to have a psych eval., clearance from a heart doctor, go to a 2 hour seminar...prove that I had tried but failed losing weight....verification of the side effects of the cancer drug, verification of all my "maladies".....which took over a month to get together. I had been watching 2 ladies I know who had it done for over a year. I had been researching, asking questions etc. Found out the one of the best gastronomy clinic was in Oxford (Ole Miss) and that Is where the 2 ladies had gone. To make a long story longer....I had the surgery Monday morning 5/5 in Oxford, Mississippi and came home Tues afternoon. Lots of burning pain and soreness, which eases more each day. . HOWEVER.....I am going to benefit greatly from this and I am so glad I went a head and had it done.
