Do you hope to get smaller than your goal? Why or why not?
JCsMamaBear replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At my lowest adult weight of 140 I was wearing a 7/8. I had to work really hard to maintain at that weight, and I'm not sure I could get there again. Still, I've set that as my goal, but I'm not ruling out going lower if my body can get there AND maintain it without having to over-exercise or undernourish myself. My body type is curvier too, so I don't expect I'll ever be "stick-thin" because that's just not the way I'm made, but like @@LilMissDiva Irene said, I won't rule anything out. If my body could sustain a "curvy XS" than so be it! -
Congrats on your speedy recovery, Crystal. I am scheduled to have my sleeve on 7/1, and I hope my recovery goes as well. This is a very supportive and helpful community. I've learned so much here, and hope that I can help others by sharing my experiences as I go along. Keep us posted on your journey!

Congrats on your recovery. It's always good to hear when things go so well. I'm gearing up for my pre-op to start on Tuesday.

Pre-OP starts Monday June 9th- anyone else?
JCsMamaBear replied to mi75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I start my pre-op diet on 6/17. I thought it would be all shakes, but I just got the info from my nut yesterday and it includes more than that. I have 2 shakes a day, plus light yogurt, sugar free Jello & pudding, light cottage cheese, broth, sugar free popsicles. The nut told me that the first couple of days will be rough, but it will get easier. I met with my surgeon afterwards, and he chuckled and said that the pre-op diet will be much harder than after surgery, because after surgery I won't really be hungry. So, I figure if I can get through the pre-op diet I can do anything! LOL! I am also dealing with food funerals, but I'm trying not to overdo. I'll have things I know I won't be able to eat for quite awhile, but not in mass quantities like I might have in the past. I've made up a section of my kitchen to keep "my stuff" (Protein powders, RTD shakes, puddings/jellos, broth, cream Soups, etc). I really like your idea, @@mi75 , of stocking the house with pre-made meals for the family during this time. I told my husband he'll need to take some responsibility for meals for a little while & let me know what he wants in the house. I am going to make a giant pot of homemade meat sauce and freeze it, so that he can make spaghetti for him and the little guy pretty easily. Maybe I'll make some casseroles to freeze this weekend too just to get them ready. I'd rather not have to do any cooking for a little while. -

Submitted and playing the waiting game!

Well, I received an email from my surgeon's office late yesterday afternoon that they have submitted my paperwork to insurance. I am so anxious to get my approval....I've already completed all my requirements, and once the verdict is in I'll have one more meeting with surgeon to set date, and one more meeting with nut to get pre-op instructions and then I'm on my way!!! I'm so ready for this. I've been doing tons of research, sampling different Protein powders and shakes. I have three family members who have had successful WLS and my very best friend in the world had it last fall. She's doing great! I'm know that I'm super lucky to have the support and experience of loved ones who've gone before me. It's also nice to have this forum to share with and get advice and support. You all are super encouraging. Anyway, fingers crossed that I get a quick response from insurance. I reviewed their WLS policy, and I don't see any reason why I won't be approved as I meet all the requirements. A coworker with the same plan had the same surgery 6 weeks ago, so our policy doesn't have the exclusion either. Man, I'm just so ready to get this show on the road! I wanna get the pre-op and early post-op behind me already (can you tell I have a problem with patience)!! -

JCsMamaBear replied to pattiecakes79's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm fairly new too. My insurance didn't require a diet, so I just had the seminar in April. Then met with nut and also had psych eval. Had consult with surgeon a month after seminar. Had lots of bloodwork. I was approved by insurance this week, and I got my surgery date of 7/1!!! So excited. I meet again with surgeon and also with nut for pre and post-op diet info next week. Start the 2 week liquid pre-op diet on 6/17. It's all happening!!!! Yay!! -
Your Big Goal Celebration
JCsMamaBear replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I definitely want a professional family photo. I have a toddler that I adore and am constantly taking pictures of, but there are so few pictures of us together because I HATE having my picture taking. It makes me sad that I'm not in those pictures. I also want to take an active family vacation next year. My surgery date is July 1st! So excited. -
You should be proud. You've come a long way, and the smile you have on your recent picture is pure joy! Congratulations on your new life.

Great job! Congratulations. You worked hard for it, so enjoy it balloons or no balloons! LOL! -
Got my surgery date today....July 1st!!! Yay! I'll be starting my 2 week pre-op diet on 6/17. I went ahead and applied with insure nutrition as soon as I had my date to see if I could get my Protein shakes covered by my insurance. I don't know if they'll be covered, but I figured it was worth a shot. If you haven't checked into it, go to their website and apply (www.insurenutrition.com) . If your insurance will cover, you can pick between Optifast shakes or Premium Protein (which I like) and they'll deliver to your door! Best of luck fellow July sleevers!

The "more info" was sent on Monday, 6/2. I couldn't wait, so I just called the insurance company to check status and.....I'm APPROVED!!! Yay!! I called the surgeon's office and they didn't know yet. Apparently the insurance company MAILED the letter and didn't bother to call. Anyway, they're going to check the schedule and see when the can get me in. Right now they're looking at July 15th, but the nurse is going to see if there's any possibility of doing it before 7/4!!! Woo-Hoo!! -

Oh no! I got email from nurse that insurance wants "more info". I don't know what that means, but she said she'll have to get the surgeon to finish his office notes when he returns to office next week and submit those to insurance along with a letter from my PCP. She said since my BMI is just at 40 and I don't have any co-morbidities diagnosed that she thought this might happen So bummed. I really wanted this to go through quickly and I thought I had it. -
Nom Nom Nom - Yasso Greek Froz Yog Bars - 6g prot & 80 cal
JCsMamaBear replied to NMJG's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm still pre-op, but during my assessment with NUT, when I talked about eating sweets in the evening, she suggested trying Yasso Greek frozen yogurt bars. I've tried the chocolate and they are soooooooo yummy. I have the sea salted caramel in my freezer now. I got them at wal-mart. -
Anyone Just Starting the journey?
JCsMamaBear replied to Mz. Nika's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also new here. I had my consultation with surgeon on Friday. Went to have blood drawn this morning. I'm hoping to hear something back in the next week or so about getting insurance approval. I've already done the psych eval and had nut assessment. If insurance approves, all I have left to do is pre-op appt. with surgeon, pre-op meet with nut, and set a date! Fingers crossed that insurance comes through....... I'm really hoping to be able to have the surgery by the end of June. Not sure if that's feasible, but that's what I'm hoping for!!
