SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
musicmama replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved last Thursday 9/25. Stayed overnight. I don't remember much of Thursday, I slept most of the day. I tend to get nausea from anesthesia, plus the stomach surgery? I had a LOT of anti-emetics in recovery, so I was pretty out, lol. Been walking a lot, most of my gas pain is gone. My "sample" diet from my dr.'s office lists about 24-48oz of protein supplement and about a cup of soup over the whole day. Ummm, no way? lol I can get about 2-3oz of protein supp before I feel that heaviness in my chest saying "full!" and about 2-3oz of yogurt or soup in at any time. So I'm getting around 4-5oz of protein supp, 5oz of yogurt and about 1/3 cup of soup (with unflavored protein powder mixed in) over the course of the day. Plus about 24oz of water. -

Looking for a good surgeon in Georgia for the Sleeve
musicmama replied to Toodie1974's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm using Dr. Richard in Duluth Everything so far has been smooth and easy, they've done all the calling/gathering of info and working to set up my appts. I'm used to having to do everything myself and fight for information, it's very refreshing! -
I had my consult with my surgeon yesterday. Before then, I was about 80% sure I was going ahead. Last week, my sweet hubs was about 25% sure, by the end of last week he was prob 50% sure, by mid week this week he was prob 60% sure, and as of my appt yesterday, we are both, totally completely 100% SURE this is happening! I have my psych appt June 10, my first nut appt June 12 and a fitness eval the same day. Aetna requires a 3 month multidisciplinary program, which I thought meant 90 days. So I was thinking "okay, June to July, July to August, August to September…" and I explained I just needed to be back at work by the 2nd week of November (I work at UPS)… but it's actually just "3 months" meaning I'll go in June, in mid July, and in mid August (I turn 40 on August 16th!) and then they submit. He said Aetna typically takes about 3 weeks, so with that, and then the 2 week liquid diet and some buffer time…. I'm officially scheduled for surgery on September 25th!! Which, incidentally will be the 16th anniversary of when I met my sweet hubs. We were also married on a "25th" (in March) so that day just has always had special meaning <3 It will also mean I can give my dear friend her baby shower on September 13th, I can do the craft fair with my partner-in-crime on September 20th, and be ready to do another fall fair by October 25th (and work on restocking my stuffs while I'm recuperating!) I'm just so.stinkin'.happy. IT'S REALLY REALLY HAPPENING!!!!!!

Now I am "officially" on my way!
musicmama replied to musicmama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hadn't met the surgeon or been to the office. I couldn't let myself go "all the way" before getting all the answers. Like finding out *exactly* what our out of pocket would be. Making sure I liked the people in the office. Making sure I was comfortable with the staff, stuff like that. My husband had some of the same questions like yours. He's always been naturally slim, even now when he's heavier than he used to be he only wears a 36 pants. We have had some really good, long, emotional talks about everything, it's been REALLY good to go through this decision WITH him, rather than dragging him along After he met everyone, spoke with the insurance guy, and saw some of the pictures of the transformations, he is really in. He sees how things will change for us. I don't mean that in a negative to positive way, if that makes sense. I've always been heavy as long as he's known me (I wore a size 15/16 when I was 12, for example), so he's never known me in a size smaller than a 22, so it's not like he's waiting for me to lose weight to get me back. kwim? But stuff like I'll get to go horseback riding when we go to the beach next year. Things I've been afraid to do (like ride a jet ski) I won't have to think twice about. And he sees how it's not the "easy way" at all, he's watched all the same videos and such I have. He's seen me lose 50lbs 4x over our 16 years together, so he knows I've literally tried everything. He's a super guy <3 -

Jay Robb makes a really good Egg White protein powder that's sweetened with stevia -
How long was it between the time you started the process and actual surgery?

I have Aetna, so I'm interested to see how long it takes her to get her approval -

Good Luck! -
Both pregnancies came *super* easy after weight loss, both were actually total surprises, I wasn't even tracking my cycle (which had evened out just a few months into losing weight. I lost about 45lbs both times and boom, pregnant.)
-
I had a baby at 36 and one of my best friends is pregnant right now and she's 38 I had no issues at all with my pregnancy. I too have PCOS and it took me 5 years to get pregnant with my first and another 3 to get pregnant with my 2nd, both pregnancies happened after weight loss. Good luck!

Gluten Free AND Artificial Sweetener Free?
musicmama posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know there are a million questions about Protein shakes, but I can't seem to find a good recommendation that is gluten free AND artificial sweetener free. Is Jay Robb going to be my only choice? Gluten and artificial sweeteners give me migraines (and gluten also gives me joint aches and stomach troubles). I figured when I gave up gluten I'd lose weight in general, ha! I've been off gluten since last October and the only migraines I've had was when I twice had gluten (once on purpose and once in a "green drink", stupid barley!!). Everything I've read is sugar free this and sugar free that, none of which I will be able to eat Help? I'm very early in this process, but I'm also a planner -
I know I'm thinking quite ahead here since I'm still very much pre-op, but I can honestly say I *loved* doing the Body for Life workouts back when I did it. Would the HIIT workouts be feasible say, 2-3 mos post op? There's an Anytime Fitness on my way to work and I've contemplated joining it to get my workouts in BEFORE work. It would mean I would be getting there about 4am. Would that be enough "fasting" time to make a difference? My hubs and I work opposite shifts, so Weds-Fri I come home from work and he leaves for work, and he works on weekends, I work Mon-Fri. So, if I don't workout first thing, I won't have an option with childcare after work.

I don't have any words of wisdom since I'm still months out, but I can give you a gentle (((hug)))

Gluten Free AND Artificial Sweetener Free?
musicmama replied to musicmama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Xylitol doesn't seem to bother me in toothpaste or gum, but now that you mention it... there were a few times when I overate on some sugar free candy and…ummmm, let's just say it was 10 years ago and my husband still remembers that enormous gurgle sound, and the hazmat moment that lingered around afterwards. (too much information from a newbie?) I'll bet it would bother me that way again. hmmm. -
If you don't feel like you're getting anything out of your Costco membership, and/or if you don't save enough to make it "worth it"….their memberships are basically "guaranteed", as in, you can go into the store on day 364 and say "nah, didn't like it" and they'd give you your $55 back.
