Telling people you've decided on WLS...
Crosby replied to blashlee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I too was initially planning to tell just a few. But as I got closer it didn't sit well me. So one week away from surgery I posted on it Facebook. Support has been great. I really think a lot of reactions will depend on how you feel about it yourself. What I posted: "This is my formal announcement to the world that Friday I am getting gastric bypass surgery. Yes, I have heard all the stories about the Aunt Sally's that had terrible outcomes and the friend of the cousins hairdresser that gained all their weight back. I may act looney, and have little couth most of the time but I am far from an idiot. I began this process in May after my hip deteriorated for the second time. I have done lots of research and have prepared well. I did not make this decision without alot of thought. After losing 130 pounds and gaining 80 of it back over the last 5 years I refuse to languish any longer. I look forward to using the tool ( not magic fixit) that is weight loss surgery. I have a great surgeon...shout out to Hope Bariatrics. I considered keeping this to just a few individuals that I have already told. However I realized I need to do my part to stand up against the shame that is cast upon those who fight the battle of obesity and even more shame that is layed at the feet of those who use a medical intervention to address a potentially deadly medical issue. It's not " the easy way out"... It will require commitment and ongoing change. I do not have a moral problem or character flaw. Keeping quiet only gives power to the shame and is so against who I am otherwise! So here it is for all too see, talk about, gossip about...or offer support. To all my Weight a Watchers buddies...I am not going anywhere. I will still be using what WW has taught me but tweaked a bit to fit me now. Hope to see ya on the biking trails. " As I said the support has been great. If anybody is against it they haven't said...but I think being self assured in my decisionwould drown them out anyway. -

I would think it would depend on how stable you are and compliant with MH treatment recommendations. -
There are two kinds I know of. One is called Dieters Tea and one Detox tea made by Yogi. You can usually find them in larger grocery stores. Dh just had hernia surgery and also suffered from constipation. The teas are his go to thing. But they didn't work this time.

As I mentioned in another post this really concerns me since I had such a bad time with constipation after hip replacement surgery in December. My worst day in the first two weeks was due to constipation ..nit the major slashing my body had gone through. I like the mineral oil idea..my grandfather use to take it once a week..and whew..we all had to leave the house. I am just wondering Carolk36 if you had any bad reactions to it.

Four days until surgery and I'm a bundle of nerves!
Crosby replied to #1Coltsfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am next week too. Repair of hiatel hernias are quite common and from what I have read just result in a bit more pain and healing time..but nothing major. I have one I can actually feel at times. My surgeon said if it wasn't big he wouldn't mess with it. -
I want to say I am loving all the updates.

Are laxatives allowed after WLS? I had horrible horrible constipation after hip surgery in December. I tried everything and was placed on stool doftners in the hospital. Nothing helped. After 10 days I took a laxative. I never ever want to go through that again.

I am hoping too. My surgeon said I should be able to gradually come off my omeprozole which I have to take twice a day. Crazy thing is I rarely had noticeable acid reflux. -
Well it's 10:25 now so Mary you are really close to new! The best wishes!

Your best answer is going to come from your surgeons office. Call them. Mine informed me of each step and what would be next. -
You got luck on your side Lucky.

Yay! Thanks for the update. I know I have a hiatel hernia too..hoping they fix that sucker as well. Wishing you a good night.

March 5th surgery! things I'm doing to get ready
Crosby replied to emeraldeyesgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got through a hip replacement surgery so I know for me keeping it simple works best. Phone, sweats, and toothbrush and I am ready to conquer the world. Only pre planning is cooking up some meals to freeze for the family so I don't have to worry about it for a few weeks.......And my phase one food/liquid items of course. No pre op diet required but I cut out sugar and caffiene this week on my own. -
I got approved! What's next?
Crosby replied to ivy4u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would imagine offices vary a lot. I had orientation groups months ago where we went over what to buy and have for each of the 4 phases they have. Plus visits with the NUT and lots of literature to help me out. After everything was done My surgeons office called about my approval ...which was less than 24 hours after submission. Then they called the next day to schedule for pre op appt and the surgery. I picked the date which was 3 weeks away but could have been sooner if I wanted. Pre op diet varies so much you are better just waiting to talk to your doctors office. I only have to do one day of Clear Liquids. My surgery is next week and I am stocking up with a variety of Protein powder samples, sugar free Jello, pop cycles, and fruit juices...which are only for the first week and have to diluted. I am not buying too much stuff as tastes can change. -
February is rocking and sounds like everyone is moving along. I had pre op today so now just a little over a week before take off. I have given up sugar and caffiene on my own and stuck to it so far. There is a desire to binge though since I don't have a pre op diet...only one day of Clear Liquids. I just hope I have a smooth time as well. I am going to finally have to tell my MIL who lives with us. I have put it off hoping her new place would come through and I wouldn't have to listen to her negativity. But alas it will be another opportunity for me to practice not punching her in the face.

Barretts Esophagus on EGD

I was diagnosed with Barrett's a year before I started the surgery process. I too initially wanted the sleeve. I researched it myself befor I even saw the surgeon and concluded the sleeve was not a good choice. The surgeon agreed. -

Walking is boring....how long before you could do something else?
Crosby replied to MisforMimi's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Do you keep records of distance, time etc? competing against your last time and seeing the progress could make it less boring until you are able to do more. -
Aetna is " net loss " so you will be fine. I just got approved with a 6 pound gain but overall 13 pound loss.

Great job! You look fantastic! I think you were just getting ready to have your surgery when I first found this site. Now I am getting ready to have mine.

Why do people feel they have a right to be rude now?
Crosby replied to Bobby46's topic in Rants & Raves
For the most part I choose not to be angry or upset with others who are in most cases simply happy for me. But I am going to save this for the ones I let irritate me -
Problem tolerating whey isolates?
Crosby replied to gofigure's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
. I keep hearing how frequent it is for ones taste preferences to change dramatically after surgery. Because if this I haven't bothered to even try any of the samples I have bought for my surgery in 18 days. -
I remember feeling the exact same way. But time will pass at the same rate whether you are anxious and impatient or more relaxed and taking advantage of the time. Before I knew it 3 months had passed....but my hip had totally gone out so I was forced to put RNY surgery on the back burner and have my hip replaced. In the beginning I thought 6 months was long....well 9 months will have passed by I get RNY. But it really did pass quickly.
