I had no idea that could happen! How unfortunate for your friend. Please let me know how she's doing. 60 lbs is a great loss... Good for you!

It wasn't hard for me . I was determined to do everything the nutritionist and drs told me I needed to do. They told me from the beginning the pts who did all the requirements such as blood work, ekg. Chest x Ray would be called first because it showed them I was doing my part.
  4. Taking the classes I was required to take helped me understand the whole process better and reassured me it was the right thing for me. Also being able to lose the 10% the ins co wanted was helpful. I know I can do this. Reading a ton of Info was also very helpful. Hope this helps.

My surgeon does the blood thinner shots as a precaution also. One when I check in the hospital one when I leave.
  6. I understand the nerves surgery is never ever fun or a walk in the park. But I look at it as a few weeks of discomfort for a lifetime of better health and well being.

The 1500 calories a day was at the beginning of my 10% weight loss. Eventually I went down to 1200 a day and that's where I am now.

I was surprised the incisions are small enough to be covered by bandaids. That's great! How many days were in the hospital?

Soda contains caffein which itratates the stomach and can cause an ulcer. Also some drs say it stretches the pouch. Don't want that to happen????
  10. Stay positive! It will help you with recovery.

Are the bandaids covering your incisions???
  12. My surgery date is Dec 3rd. My surgeon said leaks are rare. They check for that before you leave the operating room. The key is to get all the protein in a day that you will need after. Have you started experimenting with different brands yet?

I pretty much eat just a low calorie diet..1500 calories to start back in June then down to 1200 around August. My biggest challenge is giving up diet Coke. I love it! I have finally found a protein I like to drink. That had me worried as I didnt like the taste of most of them. The liver shrinking diet is just regular food but less of it. I can't wait to see how your system progresses. My cost of the surgery is 250.00.

That's so sad! I personally wouldn't donthe bypass.... Too many uncertainties.... My surgeon said the death rate is only 2%. He said 50% of those are from blood clots. So I will be up walking as soon as I wake up.

I live in Ca USA. I had to take three months of nutrition classes and lose 10%. I did both. My surgery for the sleeve is Dec.3.

You can help control hair loss by really taking in the required amount of protein. Several years ago I went thru a very stressful situation and lost tons of hair. I have really thick hair and it was noticeably thin. I saw a nutritionist and she said to drink or eat high amounts of protein, I did and within 6 mos my hair was back. Dumping is painful but you find out real fast what foods you can't tolerate so you don't eat that again lol. Lots of people never have a problem with it. Our class nutritionist said always try new foods one at a time at home to figure out if that food will be a trigger.

My Surgeon explained to me that you lose more with the bypass. You will also have dumping syndrome and malabsorption issues. You must also be 100 lbs or more over weight. With the sleeve you don't have dumping and malabsorption issues as long as you take your daily vitamins. Based on my weight and general health ( which is good ) he thinks the sleeve would be best for me. I want to lose about 70 lbs, so I'm not a candidate for the bypass says he. It's a lot to take in, explore your options and take your time.

    anyone getting sleeved in DECEMBER?

Same day as me! Very close when I think of all I want to get done before then.
  19. Wow! I'm with Kaiser So. Cal. I got my surgery date yesterday. I had to complete a three month options program. Basically it was nutrition info. We were encouraged to lose 10% which I did and some extra. Many in my class did not and are still getting surgery. No psych evaluation required at all. My surgery is Dec. 3rd. Seven months from start to end. I hope it gets better for you.

I'm going to miss drinking with a straw too. I'm worried about my sinus headaches, they are hard to deal with. The med that works best is a tablet. Dr said I should be able to take it hopefully. Maybe the sinus problem will clear up.

  23. I will be having the sleeve on Dec. 3rd, at St Bernadine's in San Bernardino, Ca. I can't believe how fast I moved thru the Kaiser system. Seven mos from start to finish.
