  1. Hi Polly, I too, was part of the group before it became Bariatric Pal. I have always loved the support from others and being able to offer it as well.

I just received a call from my surgeon's office and a message from the insurance company. My revision request has been approved. I am so very happy, I can hardly contain myself. I go in for my preop class this Friday and start preop diet on the 24th. I don't have an official date yet, I think they said scheduler will call me tomorrow, but it is looking like October 8th.

I hope all goes well with you and I look forward to reading more from you.

  2. Hi Polly,

I hope all goes well with your appointment and you and your PA can decide your best option. I am currently waiting on approval for lapband to RNY revision surgery. My Surgeon suggested RNY for me due to all my GERD issues. I went in wanting the sleeve, but he said with all the reflux and aspirating I was having, RNY would be better for me.

My insurance advocate had put in for a surgery date of October 14th, to allow time for insurance company to review my info and give an answer, but I am hoping to get it changed to an earlier date. I was told by my insurance company that if a later date is placed on the paperwork, they would review it at a later time because it isn't a priority, but if it is put in for like a couple of weeks before a projected date, they would get to it faster.

I am so ready to get rid of this band and get back on track with my weight loss. I hate that I have gained about 40lbs back since the start of my problems two years ago, but I am not giving up on that healthy life I sought after.

Good luck to you!!!!!! And everyone else :)

  3. Hi Robin, It's nice to see someone close to home on here. I currently live in Lorena, but I'm from Waco. Have you had your surgery? I am waiting for approval for revision from lap band to rny. Since I had my original surgery elsewhere, S&W wouldn't take me when I started having problems with the band. I couldn't even get help at Hillcrest where I work.

If you need a buddy close to home, please message me. I hope all is well with you :)

  4. I received a call today 8/26/14 informing that my VSG procedure was approved on Friday 8/22/14!! :) the insurance rep also stated that I have approval for the RNY too!!!

Congrats on your approval and upcoming surgery. I am still waiting and becoming more anxious as the days go by. I am looking to revise from Lapband to RNY.

  5. Yayyyyy I'm so excited and kinda afraid at the same time just found out my surgery date Is September 8th at 8.00 am.

Congrats on receiving your surgery date. I am still waiting for mine. I had my psych eval last Friday and getting really impatient, LOL!!! This was the last thing needed prior to insurance submission for approval. I hope I receive word quick. I am so sick of my Lapband and ready to revise and get back to a healthy version of myself :)

  6. Good Luck to you Moose. I hope your echo turns out well. I am glad you will still be able to have your surgery. Quick weight loss after surgery can be taxing on your heart as well, so if there is something to be concerned with, at least they will have a baseline in which to monitor you.

  7. Good to hear everyone is on a steady course to fat freedom!! I am moving slowly now, after moving really fast in the process. My insurance has requested that I have a Pulmonary Function Test, so I am waiting for that to be scheduled. I guess since that is all they asked for, if it comes back ok, then I will be on my way to scheduling. My last nutrition appointment is this Wednesday. It would be really nice to get this going in a couple of weeks. So ready!!!

Good Luck to you Bring It On. I am still waiting. It is driving me crazy, LOL!!! Maybe I will hear something this week. I still need to attend a pre-op class, but they won't schedule it until I am approved. If I don't hear something in a few more days, I am going to call both the Surgeon's office and my insurance. I am soooo ready!!!!!

  8. Daron, did you buy the insurance when you purchased your cruise? If you cancel, you don't get much of your money back, if any this close out. If you purchased the insurance, you can get a refund.

I had my psych eval last Friday. The Dr said he thought everything should be a go for my surgery, at least from his stand point. He said he felt I knew what I was doing and was ready to make the needed changes. Now just waiting for insurance approval. I keep checking my insurance company's website, but I am sure the Surgeon's office will find out before Humana actually puts a pending claim on their page.

Moose, good luck to you as well. I am soooo very ready to get this surgery done with and get back to be healthy and energetic.

  9. Maybe. I was self pay for lapband but still had to do NUT & Psych. Perhaps the sic feels everything is a-ok!

I was also self pay for my band. I went to a new surgeon to see about revising due to band issues, but initially the surgeon was trying to tell me I was just making bad food choices and was trying to get me back on track. After several months of no weight loss and lots of pain under my breastbone and both ribs, he decided to do testing. My gallbladder was fine and I had no swallowing issues per the UGI. After the EGD, it was determined my band definitely needed removal.

I have to get a psych evaluation per insurance requirements. I have already had two nut visits. Praying for a quick answer of APPROVED :)

I wish you all the best.

  10. I am in the same place you are. I have my psychological evaluation next Friday, then my paperwork will be submitted to the insurance company for approval. I am hoping to get revised from the lap band to rny. The surgeon said that I definitely need my band out, but he is working on getting the revision approved so I don't have a huge out of pocket expense.

I was told, once the paperwork has been sent, I should have an answer within 2 weeks because of the band problems, but then I will have a pre-op class to attend. I too have a cruise planned for mid October but I may have to cancel. I wanted to go so bad, but if it comes down to surgery or the cruise, I will choose the surgery. If its too close, I may still cancel. I don't know how fun it will be if I am on a post-op liquid diet :)

I wish you all the best with your journey.

  11. Im hoping to get a date in September. I have my psych evaluation next Friday then my surgeon will submit my paperwork to the insurance company for my revision from lap band to rny. Onced approved the only thing left is the pre-op class. The surgeon said he antcipates a quick answer due to medical necessity.

Im soooo ready, I already have a bag packed, lol. Good luck to everyone.

  12. Good luck to everyone. I had my band placed in 2008. Two yrs ago I started having problems with my band being too tight (last fill 10/09), reflux, food getting stuck, weight gain, and the worst for me, the health problems I was trying to prevent by having surgery in the first place.

I am hoping to get approval for revision soon. I was self pay with band surgery, but I currently have Humana. I am scheduled for an EGD and esophageal manometry on Aug 1st. If my surgeon can find a medical reason why I need the revision my insurance will cover it.

  13. Did any of you have difficulty with your Surgeon? I wasn't getting the help I needed from my initial surgeon, so I found another one willing to accept me. After reading many reviews, I was hopeful about getting a revision. After 3 months of meeting with the PA, I finally met with the surgeon yesterday. I had to drive over 100 miles to see him, had to wait an hour and half past appointment time, and visit was only 5 minutes long. The PA had me go get an UGI wherever I wanted, which was done at the hospital I work for. All it said was that I was able to pass thin liquids fine. Now I have to get another UGI with a facility of the Surgeons choice. First one was done after an unfill and this one will be done after getting some Fluid back in.

I have been experiencing problems with my band for 2 yrs and ready to get this thing out. If he tells me NO again, I don't know what I will do. Everything I eat or drink, comes back eventually. Sometimes I have food that sits in my stomach for hours to days. The PA told me this was due to food getting trapped in the herniated area, but the Dr didn't address that. He just said nothing was wrong and that I needed to stick to a healthy diet. This morning I had a shake and a few hours later, some of it came back up. What kinds of things were you experiencing that made the surgeon agree you needed a revision?
