Is it an illusion?
dcostella replied to jackie's journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took about 40 lbs for people to start really noticing. I also think they are embarrassed to say anything because they don't want you to think they thought you were heavy. I laugh and tell them...it's OK I was really heavy! But even now each day they notice something different. Even though I haven't lost any weight for a few days I think we loose inches even if the scale doesn't change and that makes a difference also. -

I have tried rice. I can eat Spanish rice no problem but fried rice makes me very sick. I only eat a couple bits of any rice though.

Lab concerns -- low ferritin / low protein / high b12?
dcostella replied to Ginger Snaps's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
At 3 months my ferratin was low and my B12 was double also. They had me drop my B12 to every other day. They had me start taking prenatal Vitamins with Iron instead of an iron supplement. I have been constipated since I had surgery. I was never before. The only thing that works for me is every 3rd day I take 3 laxatives and stool softeners and it seems to work for me. -

The beginning of my journey
dcostella replied to RobinL123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also agree...don't buy a lot of Protein drinks ahead of time. Your tastes buds change and what you liked before surgery you may not like after. Also as far as what people think about your surgery....I can say I have been very lucky! Everyone I have told has been extremely supportive. Especially after I have lost 53 lbs and how much it has helped my Firbromyalgia. They can also see how much better I feel with the weight loss. However, I would have done it even if everyone was against it. This is a personal decision and it should be your's and your's alone. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. You are the one who has to make the changes and live with your decision. Do your research and make your decision wisely! But make it for you...not for anyone else...whatever the decision is! -
I tired salad around then to see how I handled it. I just started off really slow. I still don't eat a lot of salad but I have a couple bites here and there.

I have to agree with winning_by_losing. I find that most people are generally trying to be nice. I always take it as a compliment when I hear.."hey don't lose any more weight" because I know they mean it our of love and it's their way of telling me how well I have done. I really don't think most people mean to be malicious.

My hair has gotten so thin
dcostella replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding is it starts falling out about 3 months post-op and lasts until about 6 months post-op. Mine is also coming out in handfuls. Luckily I have thick hair so you can't tell, but man if I didn't I would definitely be bald. -
Sense of smell got stronger!
dcostella replied to Amour.de.lionne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG!! I thought I would go crazy. Everything drove me crazy. Everything smelled really strong. So far mine has diminished some and everything doesn't smell as strong as it did in the beginning. -
I am 3 1/2 months post-op and I have also had a few of the WTH did I do I think everyone does. But when you start feel great and you are loosing weight it makes it all worthwhile. It has made such a difference with my Fibromyalgia that I couldn't of asked for better results. I am at the point that even if I don't loose another pound I am happy because of how amazing I feel.
