Scheduled for revision surgery to move lapband but....
CcPc posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was wondering if I should look into the sleeve. Also, the dr I go to in Central IL only does banding. How would I go about looking into a different dr to do the gastric sleeve? My band has slipped twice in the past 2 years, that is why the surgery to move the band. Anyone have experience with changing doctors? Or can recommend a sleeve dr in the area?? Thanks!!! -
I found this on a low carb site. While I'm sure it's good for low carb, I was wondering how it would work with the band. Has anyone tried it?? Here's the recipe in case anyone WANTS to be a guinea pig I would try them myself but I am still on full liquids for another couple days then a couple weeks of mushies. Just trying to plan ahead ...lol. 3 eggs 3.5 oz cream cheese Pinch salt 1t. Baking powder or cream of tartar (can be omitted) Separate egg whites. Whip egg whites with salt until very stiff. You should be able to turn te bowl over without he egg whites moving. Mix yolks and cream cheese well. Add the baking powder or cream of tartar, if desired. (This makes it more bread like). Gently fold egg whites into egg yolk mix. Try to keep air in the whites. Put 6 lg or 8 small oops is on a baking try. Bake in the middle of the oven and 300 for about 25 mins-until golden.

I see a lot of people say they have problems with throwing up. Since I've been banded 5/14, I haven't thrown up at all but I've "spit up" a lot. I consider spitting up is what happens when you swallow too quickly/don't chew well enough/eat too fast. The food doesn't make it through the band and as such, doesn't have any stomach gases which makes it not painful. Does this all make sense? Or am I the odd one. Sometimes. if I drink too fast it will come up and still be as warm/cold as when I swallowed it. I don't consider this throwing up, since it never really went anywhere. I'm confused as to what to tell the dr when he asks if I've thrown up. I just got a couple slight unfills because I was too tight and if I even at 3 tsps. of applesauce, 2 would come back. One more question. When spitting up, how is it that my saliva gets so thick?? I believe that is called sliming and it's gross. I just don't understand how it occurs.

I've had 4 fills and the last 2 were both .5cc. I can feel restriction but if I eat slow enough, I can eat as much as I want. Is this normal? I feel like I should feel full since I know the band is tight. If I eat too fast or foods that disagree with the band, it just comes back up. I think this is called sliming. If I drink right after eating sceptic for tiny sips, that also comes right back up. I call it spitting up since the food hasn't made it to my stomach yet. I know because I drink a lot of powerade and it's still cold when it comes back up. Generally, I spit it out because it seems like more coned up than went in. Does this make an sense to anyone?? Does it sound normal?

Thank everyone for the replies. I think my band may be a little too tight. In 20 minutes, I can get in about 4 bites of something. And then if I try more, it comes back. It takes me forever to eat even 1/2 cup! And I've pretty much given up on most proteins. I'll stick with the shakes. I'm still losing weight steadily so I don't worry that I'm eating too much. Now it sounds to me like I'm too tight and can't get much in. Of course, I'm kinda ok with that too.

Ok. All that makes sense. I also asked my dr and he said pretty much the same thing but in a different way. He said the veins and stuff around the stomach are encased (I'm not quoting here) in fat and when the band is tightened it pushes some fat out of the way, slowly so the opening gets larger gradually. And as you lose weight there is also just less fat there so the restriction is less. Then it's time for a fill to tighten the band.
-
Why is it when you first get a fill, the band feels tight and you have to pay particular attention to what and how you eat and then gradually, before your next fill you're able to eat less....carefully. Does that make sense? I've just had my 3rd fill and it seems every month towards my fill date, food goes down easier. Why is this since the band doesn't get looser?

Here's a question. I just read your blog (love it!). I noticed in your post op pic you have a large bruise low on your abdomen, like I do. Anyone know what that from? It's not an incision. Just a big bruise. -

Besides the fact that licking yours or someone else's food is gross, weird and probably hilarious looking, I don't think it would help hunger pains. -
My surgery was at 11am today. I feel pretty great except for my left shoulder. If I lay flat my shoulder kills!!!! I am sleeping in the recliner tonight. Has this happened to anyone? Also, I ended up in the ER because I could not urinate. Now I have a foley for the next day or so. I believe it has to do with the fact that I had a bladder sling a few years ago. Has anyone else had experience with this?

Got the catheter out and was able to go. I almost did a happy dance! And I'll be getting the gas x. I've been moving as much as possible. The shoulder pain has definitely lessened today. That was the worst. Nothing else has really bothered me.

Oh oops. I'm new thank you! I had lapband surgery. Hopefully the cath will come out in a day or two. It's not pleasant. I can't imagine having one for a year

Surgery May 22nd!! I'm so damn excited!! I've had the longest and shortest journey. Originally I started with the 6 mo dr supervised diet in 2009. Right as I got to my 6 mos, my husbands employer changed insurance. So I began again on the 6 mos diet and after I finished, I found out bariatric surgery was specifically excluded from the plan. April 1st, 2014 insurance changed again. Man, I jumped right on this. I've since gotten approved and am on my pre-op diet!
