I misread the question. Please forgive me! Could do with a little less sarcasm. Thought we were all here for support?

I am an RN Case Manager for the 2nd largest insurance company in the US. Insurance companies have policy they must follow. Nutritionist and psych clearance is mandatory. They are going to spend a lot of money on this surgery and want to make sure you can be successful and remain successful for a lifetime! Typically a BMI of 40 or higher does not require any co morbs but a bmi of 35 to 39 does ie diabetes, sleep apnea, cardiac, etc. I believe Aetna requires a supervised 6 month diet.

Help! Suddenly I can't post replies!

I am finding different profile pics under my name instead of my own! -
I had to spend an extra day in the hsp due to an increased heart rate. Now I am almost 12 weeks post op. So far so good. No issues at all! Good luck to you!
-
I will be 12 weeks post op (roux en y) this coming Wednesday. What is everyone's thoughts about me trying pizza for the first time? My husband makes a pizza with thin crust Boboli, sauce, cheese (4 cheese blend and Parmesan), mushrooms and turkey pepperoni.

Help! Can't stand Protein Drinks
kwilli8 replied to Elisha1015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink EAS Advantage dark chocolate everyday..it's not bad! I also add a scoop of Unjury unflavored protein powder to a big bottle (24 oz) of Crystal Light lemonade or pink lemonade. Can't taste or smell it. -
I think I am one of the lucky ones! Never once have I had any issues tolerating any foods during any time during the advancement of this diet through all the stages. No nausea, no dumping, etc. So I tried the pizza...very small slice...and did well. It wasn't as good as I remembered it to be. But it was nice to feel normal and have a meal the same as my husband (Friday night is our date night and always included homemade pizza). It was a nice treat. Next week he will get thin crust Boboli and use low fat mozzarella.

Eating Mcdonalds, twinkles, 64 oz cokes, smoking, binge drinking, and knocked up 2 weeks post op!

Agreed! -
Going to a brunch. Menu: bacon/cheese quiche, stuffed french toast, hash browns, sausage, assorted bagels/muffins/pastries, fruit. I am 10 weeks post op today. Have been doing reduced fat and no sugar since surgery. I worry about dumping syndrome. What is everyone's opinion about having a forkful of each?
-
For brunch I had a couple tablespoons of stuffed french toast and sliver of quiche (didn't eat end crust). Dinner I had tablespoon of each side and a slice turkey. Felt fine and tolerated it all (kinda scary) but found I was totally lacking in my daily protein. Glad Thanksgiving is over!

I had my surgery Sept 17th. I feel like I am not losing weight fast enough. I have lost 31 lbs in 7 weeks. Just had 8 wk post op date but weigh in tomorrow. My RD feels it's too fast, made me bring my calories up to 1000 which I can barely achieve. Iron in blood too high so I had to change my MVI to one without iron. Albumin low so she made me add a protein shake each day. Getting frustrated....heard 5 to 15 lbs a week of weight loss...I am averaging 4 1/2 week. Actually most of the weight was early post op...now 1 to 2 lbs a week. Frustrated!

I am a RN Case Manager at a large health insurance company. I personally review and approve Bariatric surgery in addition to having a bypass myself on Sept 17th. There is medical policy that clearly has to be met. Most importantly a BMI > 40 or BMI of 35 to 39 with diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. Go online or call your insurance company and ask for a copy of the medical policy.

How can I increase my protein intake during the first four weeks post op...?
kwilli8 replied to Jorrin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I purchased Unjury unflavored protein powder prior to my surgery. After surgery, I added one scoop to 24 oz of Crystal Light one to two times a day. It's 21 grams of protein. Because of this I was meeting my protein goal of 60 grams post op day #4. Now, 6 1/2 weeks later I am down to 1 scoop a day. It's a lifesaver. -
6 1/2 weeks post op and the last week or so I am so hungry! I hate this! Anyone have any recommendations?
-
6 weeks post op. Not getting my vege's in but never was a fan of them anyway. Anyone have any thoughts about V8 products?
-
Just picked up the V8 low sodium. 2 full servings vege's each can. 11 oz can. 70 calories, 0 fat, sodium 200, carbs 15 and 3 protein. Going to give it a try! Thanks everyone!

My roux en y was 9/17/14 so almost 4 weeks post op. I advanced to the "Healthy Weight for Life Diet Plan" this past Saturday (after full liquids, purée and mechanical soft) per my surgeon. I am able to get at least 6 glasses of water in a day and am averaging 70 to 80 grams of protein a day. I add unflavored protein powder to my water and drink one protein shake a day. My question is what about calories? I calculated my calories for the last 3 days: 335 to 542 a day. Is this enough? This diet stage doesn't state how much per serving ie 2 oz, 1/4 to 1/2 cup etc like the other 3 stages did. I am eating 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup fives times a day of protein and trying to get one fruit in a day. First week I lost 13 lbs, week 2 was 7 lbs and week 3 was 3 lbs. I am concerned I am not eating enough and it will hinder my weight loss. Any opinions? Recommendations?
-
Wow! I get all my protein in (75 - 80 grams) every day but find it hard to get in anything else for the most part....one fruit a day, last night got in 2 tbsp vege....that's about it. My caloric intake is about 350 to 550 calories a day. I can't imagine up to 1000. I guess I will get there. My mood and energy are great. I go to bed earlier and sleep good compared to my old, unhealthy diet.
-
Thanks everybody! 4 weeks post op and down 26 lbs (lost 20 before surgery). Bit disappointed in the weight loss; thought it would be more! Wondered if not eating enough? Definitely need to start exercising now as I got the all clear from my surgeon yesterday.
-
You are still doing great! Congrats!
-
Wow! That is great. I hope I can have a great weight loss like you 2 months post op! I am also focused on protein. After eating 1/4 or 1/2 cup of protein, I am too full for anything else....and do this five times a day. I try to add 1/4 cup fruit at some point during the day. Thank you!
-
My concern is am I getting enough calories in each day?
-
I was terribly confused about MVI, calcium and B12. I ended up talking with a Registered Dietician from Unjury and now get all from them. It's just a bit more than the CVS brand and you get 15% off each delivery plus free shipping and handling.

Nioxin is the shampoo system. My hair dresser said it won't prevent loss but helps it to grow back!

Can't get enough protein. Problems with protein powder.

I purchased Unjury unflavored protein powder and add it to 18 oz of Crystal Light. It's 21 grams per scoop. I am two weeks post op! Getting 70 to 80 grams protein a day. Swear by it!
