Hi guys. How is everyone going? It has been almost a year since the last post so I don't even know if anyone will reply lol I am Liz. I had sleeve surgery in August 2013. I actually stopped loosing weight at 3 weeks post op. I thought it was the normal 3 week stall but nope. Just stopped dead. Had a CT scan at 3 months post op that came back saying my stomach was normal sized. Would hate to think the size of it before sleeve surgery then lol. Anyway, I was revised to bypass on 3rd March this year and going ok but extremely slow weight loss and my anti depressants have stopped working grr. OK will wait to see if there is any replies

I am in Hoppers Crossing but should be able to make the city easily. I have to wait until Monday to find out about job If I get the job I am working 6 days one week and 4 the next so Sunday is the only day I will know off the top of my head that I will be available. Will have to wait for roster for other days. Nights aren't real good for me as I hate driving at night coz the lights hurt my eyes

Sounds like a plan to me. I am out West so anything in the city would be good. For some reason the pub across the road from Flinders St Station just popped into my head when I thought about a meeting place. Congrats to all those loosing weight. I'm not. And as I have said before, all my fault. Just can't seem to stick to diet food Oh well. Something is bound to happen someday. I have a job interview today (OMG Shitting myself!!) so being away from food all day will have to be a bonus. Will let you all know how I go.

Mick if it is any help to you, when I was sleeved the hospital charged my PHI 16,500 for the 4 night stay. The $4400 was my doctor and his assistant and the anaesthesiologist. I have all my post-op appointments for free now too. However, pre-op it was $150 for dietitian ( 2 visits), $150 respiratory physician, $300 sleep study (I did mine at home), $150 psychologist. Like that figure don't they? If you are using your superannuation, you need to choose the amount you need PLUS TAX. Unless you are using funds that you put in yourself you will have to pay tax on anything that you take out of your super. Hope that helps some.

My daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia the day I had been booked in to see the dietitian. She had been headachey for 4 days and was tired and pale. Took her to the doctors on Sunday lunchtime and Monday at 6am we got a phone-call from the pathologist saying she has leukaemia, you need to get to the Children's Hospital as soon as possible. OMG! What a horrible wake-up that was! So we somehow managed to survive peak hour travel into Melbourne (don't ask me how) and 2 hours later it was confirmed at the Children's that she did indeed have leukaemia. We were then told that they had to do a bone marrow extraction to find out which type of leukaemia she had. By then my husband had arrived at the hospital for support. Thank God for that. For the rest of the first day, she had blood transfusions and platelets transfusions and was taken to theatre the following morning for a lumbar puncture and bone marrow extraction. Results came back that night saying she had the most common type of leukaemia and her chances of beating it were 85%. Yippee. Well anyway, the long and short of it was my original surgery was put off for 2 years while she went through most of her chemo. And then the revision was done 1 month before she finished chemo completely. A very long and stressful road it was too! 2 1/2 years from diagnosis to end of chemo. And now we have a 5 year period where we wait and see if the treatment was successful. Her chances of beating it completely has risen to 90% And of course the finances are completely in the pits. Hence the job search. I just don't feel ready to go back to work but I have no choice.

My surgeon is Ian Michell. He has his main office in Richmond but also consults in Niddrie and Heidelberg. The out of pocket for the sleeve was $4400 and when I was revised to RNY it was free. He is also on the team of surgeons who do liver transplants. Although I did have a stomach which was too large when the sleeve was done he could think of no explanation other than it happens sometimes. Not very helpful really but I have no complaints with his surgical skills. Sounds weird when I say that I suppose but although I had to be revised, It was not because of strictures, hourglass shape, leaks or any other complications. If only they could cure migraines so easily On a more personal note:- I have managed to stay away from the Nutella for 2 days now. Yay! Go me. I went to Aldi and bought some of the Werther's Original with no added sugar. So I had a sweet treat without all the calories. The stress of looking for work is unreal! Was so much easier when I could forget about work while I was caring for my daughter, but so glad she has gotten through her chemo and out the other side with no side effects so far. Just realized I haven't mentioned that before. Will do on another post.

I too am in Melbourne. I live over the other side of the city from you steveelea but as I am currently out of work I can meet people anytime. A bit about me.... I was sleeved in August 2013 and revised to RNY in March 2014. I have gone from 137.4 to 109.4 so far. Most of that has been this year. Sleeve did sweet f all for me...probably because it wasn't small enough. I stopped loosing weight 3 weeks post op with the sleeve and after confronting the surgeon in tears he ordered a CT which showed my stomach was normal sized. Grrr. I have gone from 22-24 down to an 18 Happy with that but I have been stalled for a few weeks now. All my own fault probably. For some reason I am craving Peanut Butter and nutella. I eat it on a spoon. Not good for weight loss but I just can't seem to stop myself from doing it Need a job to keep me busy so I can't eat all day lol
