What Causes Appetite Loss after WLS?
smiley922 replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I am only 3 weeks out but since surgery, have had very little appetite and no real temptation for anything "bad" I did smell bacon once, that set me in a stupor. BACONNNNN! Dont really feel any hunger unless i went way past meal time. Wanted to eat bad, (comfort food) to placate my rough day yesterday, but didnt. made me happy happy! -
Any Fun Hospital Stories?
smiley922 replied to Jonathan Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was the morphine pump. I had one with my hysterectomy and they had told me how often I could push it, 30 or 45 minutes apart. After my gastric bypass I remember being in alot of pain and asking how often I could push it, all I heard was every 6 minutes and so I tried to do that. Going in and out of consciousness trying to see the clock, til I was all out. Then I had to wait a couple hours til they could refill. That time I figured out to find out how many doses and how long it was meant to last. Again it was back to 30 to 45 minutes apart. Man was I high that first batch, felt like a goof. -

Lumpy red rash on left hip, apron 5 days out of surgery
smiley922 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have felt my left side was more swollen and tender over the last couple of days, 5 days out of surgery. But tonight I looked at it and about fainted. Lumpy red rash over the swollen area that drapes. It is about twice the size as normal. It does not itch, just hot and tender to the touch. I am including picture, sorry, it is not pretty. -

Mine was a hematoma also, took about 10 days but mine was on the hip and tennis ball size in swelling. Mine looked st nasty as it was where I hace alot of strech marks, swelling made it very lumpy. -
Walmart has a children's version of Tylenol with no added sugar or gluten, I have been using that.

went to the thrift store today, started trying on 18's, went down to 16's and then to 14's. Been 20 years since a size 14 jeans. I got 1pair of 16 that is a good fit now, and one 14, that will be good in a week or two. And 4 tops, all of which size L, no X's in front of it.

What is everyone eating on Puree?
smiley922 replied to Luna222's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
last night I did a white chicken chili, used McCormicks white chicken chili mix, tyson's chicken (in the canned section, but the pouch) added 1/2 can of low fat cream of chicken to cream it up and the navy Beans. Served with 1/8th chunked up avocado, and melted cheese on top. pureed mine and the rest the crew got fritos underneath. We all were very happy in the belly. low thirties last night here in GA. This morning I did a pureed version of a crabmeat omelet. Soft scrambled an egg, topped with 1/8 of a cup of warmed mixture of crabmeat, low fat cream cheese and avocado. It was yum yum also. -

OK some questions, see what other folks have found out. pureed stage My plan says 1 to 2 ounces of Protein (about the size of a matchbox) and then a 1/4 cup veggies or something etc. no more than a half a cup combined. 1 to 2 ounces is that in a measuring cup, a liquid ounce, or weight like on a scale, not sure if there is much difference, but any input? Also, if I don't have a veggie or starch I want, is it ok to add more protein instead? Never mind, it said I need the veggies/carbs Last question, when you are eating a soft protein like 1 egg, or 2 ounces of tuna salad, can you really make it last 30 minutes? I can do 20, but cant seem to go much slower than that. That is just for the protein, not adding in a carb.

Need help - What did I do wrong
smiley922 replied to BigDude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is your decision who to tell, but as you wife did not understand, make sure she does now, and forgive her. As they say, it can not be undone, but make sure she understands from here on out. -
I talked to my doc, area is still sore, they think it is just muscle healing pulling, as I am passing gas, pooping and drinking eating fine. I think my increased activity caused it. worked 8 hours, spent three more with my son, now showering and off to boyfriends. Happy day! Hope everyone else is continuing to heal well, and if you are struggling, hopefully you will feel better soon.

Still need to get the address from bobbyswife, but would like to.

I have been getting a pretty persistent pain in my lower right side for the last couple hours, not to the point of hospital, if it still there in the morning, probably will check with doc. but what is on the lower right side? Had trouble with liquids the last couple days trying to do pureeds. probably 45 to 50 ounces per day. not bad I know but not there either.
-
check with your doctor on that, hopefully not a stricture or blockage.

Slurpee, I like Slurpee, but I would think the sugar is a no no. I read about drinking a 8 oz of liquids at time, trying to finish in an hour. trying that today instead of carrying one big bottle and sipping on it all day. it was overwhelming and had not been getting enough in since i started purees.

My doctor said from the very beginning, no pain meds other than tylenol after you leave the hospital. Though during the pre-op appointment they told me at that time, I would get a script for liquid lortab, with NO refills, he does not believe in the pain meds. He wants you to use liquid tylenol after that. Had the morphine in the hospital, but since I stayed an extra day, they started me on the liquid lortab there. Got a script for 1 bottle when I checked out of the hospital. I used it religiously for the first 3 days home then started alternating with the tylenol to make it stretch. Saved 1 dose of lortab for emergency, which I ended up taking after my 12 hour outing on saturday. I luckily have been doing well and only using the tylenol every once and a while. I hope you feel better soon and if you are in great pain, hopefully your doctor will attempt to figure out why, not just medicate.

I had one done during the bypass, as well as hiatal hernia repair. preop testing said I had a borderline fatty liver, so I guess that is why, I never remembered to ask. and if I read the test results correctly, no problems. gonna go back and check again, now that you mention it.
