My surgeon, who is very tough. Wont commit to do the surgery until you follow his plan, diet, food logs, moderate exercise, and doing all the necessary appointments and meetings. Also a multipage questionnaire, describing your history. That took about 3 months for me. I think that tough is better personally, I was honest about my past, up front about my struggles, and had lost 25 pounds before I ever saw him, then lost 20 more in the 3 month before he approved me and submitted to insurance. He also has no personal weight issues, but he takes your health very seriously, and wants to make sure you do also, so I stuck with him and followed what he said. . My son met him after my upper gi, and said if he is the one doing my surgery, then he was ok with it. -

I had no documented history of weightloss attempts except the info I provided about 30 years of yoyo, atkins, liquid protein, weight watchers, etc, weight highs and lows, and approximate time frames. He summarized it for yhe insurance company and that is what they went on, with my comorbid conditions -

Not sure about tricare, but I have humana thru the obamacare in GA, and I was approved for RNY, no diet length requirement, just a documented history of weight loss attempts. They approved in 2 weeks once I met my surgeons requirments -
Where are you located?
-
My surgeon says One Week, though I am planning for two.

October 14th for my gastric bypass, cant wait! Only a one week preop liquid diet required for me. Best of luck to every one. -
And also there was not a 6 month diet requirement, just history of failure on diets. I saw surgeon first time in late May, and now that approved, surgery is scheduled for October 14th, due to busy schedule at hospital and surgeon schedule.

I just got approved with humana, and once the Dr had everything ready to submit, all the hoops etc. Humana approved in less than two weeks.

James, that is the most comprehensive "document" I have seen that breaks things down so concisely, I truly appreciate you! It took some weight off my brain, so thank you for that. It just seems so logical. Now I did not notice you mention hair loss, was that an issue for you? -
surgery approved for October 7th.

I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, that had a 8 inch incision, so looking forward to my 6 small incisions. They have already changed my date to 10/14, I am bummed at the delay, was trying for in between pay periods, but oh well. Also I only need to do liquid diet for 1 week as my BMI is on the lower side for insurance approval. -
OMG, now reality will set in. Humana just called, took less than two weeks for approval. I am so excited.

anyone out there with a lower bmi before surgery?
smiley922 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was diagnosed with diabetes in March 2014 and weighed 225 @4'11. I have been overweight since puberty and done every fad diet out there. I have had asthma, high blood pressure and sleep apnea for the last several years, 51 yrs old. I immediately went on a diet in March with help from Qysmia, a diet pill. Then in May got referred for gastric bypass. Continuing on diet, I am now at 179 with a BMI of 37. I cant lose more than six more pounds to keep BMI above 35 for insurance to cover. I think I would like to get to around 125 as a goal weight, so that means around 55 pounds, though my doctor has not told me what his goal weight is for me. Any one else having gastric bypass have that low amount of pounds to lose? Most friends are trying to discourage surgery at this point, but we have all heard that I am sure. -

Newbeginnings2014, my insurance does not require a set amount of time on diet before surgery and the nurse said my preop liquid diet will only be 1 week. I was relieved at that. -
There was another thread about the skin yesterday, someone had seen in a support group a guy who was using a combo of prep H, and something else, wrapping in plastic wrap, sleeping in the plastic wrap overnight, and had amazing results, but I cant remember what the other product was, maybe someone else read the thread? . It is a temporary fix, I beleive.

Has Anyone Else Gone Through This Problem of Skin Hanging?
smiley922 replied to tmartin1023's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think you look great, but I know the skin is not all visible. I was aware of the hanging skin issue before I started this process. There is only so much you can do eith out surgery, toning your muscles and making sure you moisturize. Most insurance will only cover when medically necessary, such as a rash problem, so I could only see a rash forming where you have folds of skin, the apron and under your boobs, if you have boobs left. A little birdy told me that if you don't have a rash problem, a scrub brush might help make it appear as if you do. I know its bad, but... -

Sunnywillows, can I ask what your surgeon set your goal weight to be and how has your weight loss been post surgery? -
My surgeon said they would now finally submit to insurance last thursday, the 14th, he told me it takes about 2 weeks normally. I have Humana, and my fingers are crossed for both of us

My surgeon said he ready to submit to my insurance, Humana, that made me happy. He said it takes about 2 weeks. Anyone else have Humana, and how did it go.
