    Can this delay my surgery?

I have one and it will be repaired during the bypass, so I wouldn't think it would delay your surgery, it does probably take the sleeve off the table as an option
  2. Julia4mom, just a heads up, these forums are public with no registration required to read, so u might wanna edit out your number, and send in a private message. I have been burned by this, so just a heads up
  3. it is very normal around 3 months post surgery and it does stop and grow back from everything I have read. Biotin chewables help according to some folks.
  4. I admitted in my psych eval that I had used bulimia on occasion many years before when I had binged on a diet, wasnt something I was comfortable with and didnt want to do it again ever. The psychiatrist still approved me for surgery and advised that if I started to struggle with anything to seek counseling asap. Hope that helps.
  5. had a bad day and with the case of the lasts going on, I almost did myself in. I work in my car, some days it is 12 hours or more. Today was a 12 hour day and under stress from outside forces I let get to me. I stopped and bought a smoked sausage from the salt lick sausage company, oh so yummy. Then they were giving samples of sweet and salty pecans, and I bought a pound bag, what the heck was I thinking. Then a friend brought me some salmon and 2 chocolate covered strawberrys. So, I threw away half the bun from the sausage, I had about 8 of the pecans and gave the bag to my son and his friend to take out of the house, and I ate the salmon and the strawberrys are in the fridge, planning to give to my boyfriend tomorrow. I was not as bad as I could have been, but wow, I have not had a day like that where I tried to sabotage all my hard work. Thank you for reading my confession
  6. I have read that adding the unflavored Protein powder to many things helps beef up you protein numbers. You can add it to about anything. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ she has lots of suggestions for most everything.

    InsureNutrition.com It works!

Has anyone tried this that has Humana, and how do they handle Vitamins, if I can not see on website? Does the dr need to write a script for them?
  8. Breehuskins, when was your surgery? Someone described this as having a baby's stomach all over again, and you have to go through the stages again. A baby can not handle eggs right after being born and your stomach is the same way. If you are not tolerating the foods or liquids, you hould talk to your NUT or doctor, not try solid or even pureed right after surgery. I realize how hard this must be, desperate to get something down, anything down, but eating foods to soon could cause damage to the stomach. Please be careful. My plan wont allow pureed foods for two full weeks, so beginning of week three for something more than liquid.

    October Buddies wanted

Amylynns, try weaning yourself off the coffee, decrease each day so you don't shock your body. It is well worth it.

    October Surgery Date

The no red or purple for me is only during the clear liquid stage 2 days before and after surgery. It is because red/purple is blood colored, and could make diagnosing complications, leaks etc more difficult.

    October Surgery Date

My clear liquid (2 days before) is sugar free clear liquids, no red/purple drinks Water, crystal light, other sugar free drink mixes, Powerade zero, decaf/sugar free coffee & tea, broth or bouillion, and sugar substitutes. sounds fun, right? this will also be three days after surgery

Am I selfish for wanting bypass?

Mamamia86, you have described me physically to a T, except add 20 plus years and I have had high blood pressure and sleep apnea for years, and was diagnosed with diabetes this spring. I am 4'11 and started this latest weight loss journey at 225. My highest weight ever was 235. I was able to lose 46 pounds before surgery, the diabetes scared the heck out of me, but I want to make it stick this time. I also have had a hiatal hernia for 20 plus years. My surgeon would only agree to do the bypass, I went in wanting the sleeve, thinking it would not be as drastic. Also I have researched and seems that weight loss can be a lot slower with the sleeve. I only wanna do this once, and with the research I did, I agree with my surgeon, the bypass is the best option for me. If I had the opportunity to do this 20 years ago, I would like to think I would make the same choice, instead of rationalizing the less drastic surgery, so I could still have sweets, though I had thought the same thing myself before meeting with the surgeon. I would think with the info you gave that as long as you follow your doctors plan, (not everyone else's doctor, since they are so varied), you should do very well.

    October Surgery Date

Hey all, I am having my surgery on 10/14 at NE Georgia Medical Center, robotically. I saw my NUT today. I see the surgeon on 10/2. He told me last time I only needed to do the liquid for 1 week, as I have lost 45 lbs since March and my BMI is 36 now. Hope that doesn't change. Though they do allow 1 serving of grits or oatmeal per day on the liquid. Then the clear liquid diet for the 2 days prior to surgery. I think I will try adding the unjury cheese sauce Protein mix to the grits, hopefully it will make it more palatable. Has anyone else tried that sauce?
  15. My surgery is scheduled for 10/14 and I have worked on changing my eating habits for the last 6 months, and done very well on preop diet, I have lost 45 pounds. If I lose more than 4 pounds before 10/14, (still have one week liquid diet to do) my BMI will be below 35 and insurance might balk. I have asked if they could back out if I lose too much, and have not gotten a straight answer on this. But back on topic, I have been having a case of the lasts myself, problem is, my body does not like the richer or sweeter foods anymore, kinda feel like I have been getting the dumping syndrome already. So I have been bummed at my attempts for my lasts...

    Something funny

My son asked me today if I was going to come home from the hospital skinny, I told him my stomach was gonna be, but the rest I have to do myself.

    Poor eating

Have not have surgery, but three thoughts. 1. you are controlling the amounts and that is an improvement 2. try and find some healthier carbs, that might satisfy the craving. (not sure how healthy, but my doctor said he was ok with sugar free chocolate pudding. I like the dark chocolate, it is not so sweet.) 3. Don't beat yourself up. that is a cycle that sets you up for failure. Here is a link to an article on a good website for post bariatric patients. http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/2011/01/bf-survival-guide-to-making-it-through.html
  18. my sleep apnea is another reason they approved surgery, so I don't think it is a bad thing, and many find it resolved after weight loss, and I have my fingers crossed. They should have let you know, as you should have a cpap machine if you have it.

    Time off work?

I have mentioned this before, my doctor says 1 week, I am planning for 2 weeks. Now here is my question, I work in my car for 8 hours at a time. Sometimes a bathroom is 15 minutes away. I have a system for pee, but concerned about the other. Any thoughts or input on this. I lean towards constipated now, and realize I could wear depends, but don't really want to. Thanks.

    THC in my system?

I was honest with my surgeon, and he said I would have to quit, he also said he would test me, each dr and insurance company is different, I am afraid.
  21. do you have any co-morbitities, diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc. Most insurance says 35 BMI with a co-morbidity. I have all three and am close to 35 BMI right now, can't lose more than 6 pounds, so trying to maintain now, I have lost a total of 45 since the start of the process, and only have to do the liquid diet 1 week instead of his normal 2 weeks since I can't lose much more weight. One plus there!

    ANYONE FROM GEORGIA

I am in Buford, having the RNY robotically on 10/14 with Dr. Nguyen. Good luck to y'all.

    daVinci robotic surgery anyone?

I am having the robotic RNY on Oct 14, I had a thread on it a couple weeks back with several comments from folks who had it done, you might check that out for more responses. One woman had complications, her staples would not stay in, and he had to suture which took many hours. everyone else had good experience, with no or minimal complications. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/315351-anybody-had-the-roux-en-y-done-robotically/

    Post-Op regrets?

I have not had surgery yet, one month from tomorrow is my date. 10/14 new life starts. From the research I have done, and talking with a few people I know personally, I am expecting about 6 months of the "regret this" thoughts and then it will get better. I can do six months of regret, knowing it is not forever. My surgeon says I will do very well, and I am planning on that, and if I have complications, I will do my best. Both the women I know personally did get hospitalized at one point after surgery, one for dehydration, the other for infection, possibly related to surgery, possibly not. I can not wait to get the regret stage, have to go through it to get to my goal of being healthy.
