    Coffee

I am not a hardcore coffee drinker, but I do enjoy my cup of coffee every workday morning. I have weaned off caffeine for juicing before in the past. I can do it again. fear the withdrawals of caffeine more than missing the cup of coffee.

    diet pepsi lovers?

@@Go4itLori interesting experiment. I like it. I am going to do it. I started my journey a few weeks ago in meeting with my dr. since then I have slowly cut my soda intake. I was never a huge drinker of soda (2 a day max!), I am down to one every other day and plan to be off soda by the time i meet with my surgeon.

    Newbie - jumpin onboard

Congrats on the first step. I am at a similar stage where I am researching my options and also think I would like a VSG. As a private guy, I was not planning on telling anyone besides my wife.

    Golf

This is all great. I have always been that big guy, but since adding more weight over the years, my swing became more and more awkward and became pushing the ball far far right!!! I hope that my weight loss will correct that and I can start playing a lot more! FORE!!!!
  8. @ I am not sure which route I am going, but from my own personal view and from the info I have read, I think I would prefer the sleeve. Thanks for your link, I look forward to reading your blog!
  9. another side to wls to consider is how to deal with the comments. it was nice to see how so many dealt with comments. I am pretty quite about my personal life and don't think I will tell anyone. I think my game plan would be the hard work, high protein, low carb approach. Only time will tell.
  10. sounds like everyone is different. Lets see how my Iron stomach is after surgery....

    Long-term effects?

Good questions. Interested in hearing some thoughts on this as well....
  16. Wait... You are having surgery right after your wife gives birth? Woah. I don't think I could handle that. You are a brave man. I may do it before or after by a week or two in either direction. My mother-in-law will be coming to visit for a few month for the birth of our child so there is another body to help around the house. I feel I can just suck it up and take it. I typically heal fast from ailments. of course family first. I will follow the judgement of my surgeon.
  17. Federal BCBS Standard here. just want to follow this thread for future reference as I am early in my journey....
  18. Still too early to know a due date, but I am hoping to join it with the birth of my 2nd child. Put paternity leave and surgery at same time and take a few weeks off. I was NOT planning on telling my co-workers about my surgery. (I am pretty closed book about most personal matters....)
  19. I'm new here too, but reading the wealth of info on here is empowering me and I am getting excited to move forward and take the next step. best of luck to you. know that you have hundreds here to provide guidance and support.
  20. Wow, this post got my hopes up. I hope that when my time comes, I will be able to offset some costs and save on Protein shakes. I wish someone had time to compile different insurance and prescription providers. I have BlueCross/BlueShield Federal Employee Program (Standard)(better than Basic) and prescriptions is covered by CVS caremark. http://www2.caremark.com/fep/?benefits-summary Fingers crossed!!!
  21. May 22nd I found a PCP and met with her. We had a good appointment where we discussed my weight and goals. At the end of the appointment she has made the decision to refer me to a local weight loss center which is covered by my insurance. The next day I went to get blood work. I am so happy to get the ball rolling and wage war against the bulging belly! The following are requirements for approval for insurance coverage. Benefits for the surgical treatment of morbid obesity, performed on an inpatient or outpatient basis, are subject to the pre-surgical requirements listed below. The member must meet all requirements. − Diagnosis of morbid obesity (as defined on page 63) for a period of 2 years prior to surgery − Participation in a medically supervised weight loss program, including nutritional counseling, for at least 3 months prior to the date of surgery. (Note: Benefits are not available for commercial weight loss programs; see page 42 for our coverage of nutritional counseling services.) − Pre-operative nutritional assessment and nutritional counseling about pre- and post-operative nutrition, eating, and exercise − Evidence that attempts at weight loss in the 1 year period prior to surgery have been ineffective − Psychological clearance of the member’s ability to understand and adhere to the pre- and post-operative program, based on a psychological assessment performed by a licensed professional mental health practitioner (see page 95 for our payment levels for mental health services) − Member has not smoked in the 6 months prior to surgery − Member has not been treated for substance abuse for 1 year prior to surgery and there is no evidence of substance abuse during the 1-year period prior to surgery I will be having my surgery at Legacy Weight and Diabetes Institute. http://www.legacyhealth.org/health-services-and-information/health-services/for-adults-a-z/weight-and-diabetes-institute/surgery.aspx I still have no idea what surgery will be best for me, but from as much as I have read and heard, my personal choice would be gastric sleeve. Time will tell! just happy to start my journey and it truly began on this site. your support and information has been amazing. Thank you

    Protein Shakes...

@PdxMan I am in SE Portland Metro Area. Meeting with a new PCP tomorrow to talk about WLS as an option for weight loss. I have been reading tons stories on here. what a wealth of information. I have BlueCross BlueShield Federal Employee insurance and one of their approved "in network" places is Legacy Weightloss Center at Good Sam. They have an information session coming up on June 11th. I am looking in to that after I meet with my Dr. tomorrow. Support Group would be amazing. I saw that you were the contact for Oregon in the "new" local support group section. Sorry or hijacking thread. back to topic
