    Today is the day!

holy crap.... a whole lot of you are in the same pained boat! As someone who is 12 days out from surgery, I was hoping for better news of fast recoveries.... hope by the time you read this you are feeling better already. and hopefully this time next week you laugh at your pain as you look to the fit future. take care you guys and gals....
  3. wife has been killing me to go on vacation there. I am a huge salami and cheese fan.... That worries me a little bit. I think I should be fine when the time comes if I avoid all the carbs!!!

    9 days out down 31lbs

@@Mike098 keep on kickin' ass Mike. great work. how was your immediate recovery? nights in hospital, pain, sleep, etc.... curious because I am going under the knife on sept 10.
  5. Howdy, I am 18 days away (SEPT. 10!!!) and have been living on this forum, but not this section yet.... I was curious after your surgery when you got home, how was your sleeping? did you sleep best on your side, flat on your back, propped up, elevated legs? very curious. wanted to make sure I was the most comfortable after my big day. Thanks for all the input and tips or tricks I should try!!!
  6. I'd ask your physical therapist or surgeon. each program seems to be slightly different, but I see a lot of people starting to do more strenuous exercises at the 4-6 week mark.
  7. good question and even better answers... seems like everything will fall into place as you progress. good luck. keep us posted

when did you go back to work?

I know I am taking off almost 2 weeks. I will return for a few weeks of light duty at the request of my surgeon, because of my position in law enforcement and prone to physical altercations. I will be on light duty for roughly 2 weeks.
  9. @@sarah92200 super exciting! getting close! I am sept 10. can't wait. congrats on the 25lbs dropped so far. keep us all updated on how you are doing. good luck
  10. best place to get all the info and support you need. this site has helped me tremendously through my journey thus far. now that you have made your decision, you can set your goals and start prepping for a life of change. after all is said and done, you will likely regret waiting 2 years to have wls. best of luck and keep up posted as you progress through your transformation!
  11. @smbergie200 kickass man!!! great work hope to join in your ranks soon. keep it up

2.5 weeks out feeling lost- HELP!

@Sarahmizzou call anyone from your clinic, they should be able to help. as far as being lost... you are in the best place possible.... bariatric pal forum. very impressive numbers thus far. also great drive with your motivation to want to exercise. From what I know, walking is okay, until you get a release around the 4 week mark from your PT or Surgeon. did your office not give you a solid printed plan of post-op eating on a week by week basis? what kind of Vitamins are you taking? chewables? try cutting them into smaller pieces and eating them throughout the day.?.?.?.?.? take care, and keep up the great work

    Deductible

oh the complicated joys of insurance billing. I feel your pain. I am just going to roll with the punches.... I know my catastrophic annual limit is $6000. I know it will not be over that. thru the year I have already paid over $1000.

    Keeping it a secret

As a private kind of guy, I am choosing not to tell anyone besides my wife (support person). just don't want the attention or unsolicited comments/advise. there are a lot of people who don't know enough about the procedure that maybe judgmental. whatever you choose, good luck!!!
  15. @@supercomik @ 600 calories a day.... yeah you will lose. hopefully just a phase.... see how you feel the next day.

    Hummus

blah blah blah hummus blah blah blah.... yeah hummus is great, I make it myself and can't wait to make it again when the time comes post-op, the reason I needed to reply was the post by boccob31 mentioning using avocado with tuna instead of mayo. I love it!!! what a great idea. I am sure they would be wonderful together. I can't wait to try it. Thanks!!!! oh, back to hummus, making it yourself you can tweak the caloric content to suit your needs. we use dried chickpeas, homemade tahini, olive oil, and some sort of flavors (such as sundried tomatoes, lemon juice, garlic, roasted red peppers....) Cheers!!!

    My VSG Journey

6 days into my pre-op diet and I am down 6 pounds. I have been given a pretty relaxed diet compared to several others I read about on here. the main concept is clean eating, high Protein, low carb, low calorie. This is how we should probably all eat anyway right? anyway, the diet is going great so far. I haven't felt too much hunger, nor have I been really tempted with anything sinful. I want to get my liver to a nice comfortable size so my surgery is a lot easier on my surgeon. The easier it is for her, I assume, the easier it will be for me on my recovery. I need to get out of reading in the pre-op diet forum and get over into the post-op diet forum and start getting ready for my big date on the 10th of Sept. Oh, I am so ready to be healthy, active, thin, energetic!!!

I want to like myself again

Summer, You are not the only one in this same boat. I am sure you are surrounded by many.... like me.... Oh, if I had a nickel for everytime I said, "I hate people" or just my general negative attitude. I know that I am truly just angry at myself. I want my happy old self back again. That is another huge reason why I chose wls, not just for the health and physical benefits but for the mental ones as well. I have become very antisocial and almost hermit like. lots of great comments above you all.

    Gastric sleeve and dumping

@kimmerzj29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastric_dumping_syndrome tends to be most problematic in RNY patients, but can happen to VSGers as well.

    Scared of saggy skin

cross that bridge when you get there..... wouldn't you rather be at a healthy weight with saggy skin, than obese with health issues? skin depends on various factors. genetics, age, length of time being obese, exercise helps, Vitamin e too....
  24. awesome.... it is nice to know what range of sleeping I might face. I do have a nice recliner, so I can do that for a week or so.

    Guy's any regrets?

reading this gets me so pumped up for my big day, just 18 days away!!! I am sure my only regret will be not having done it sooner. I am ready for my old active lifestyle back. tired of being lethargic and lazy..... recently joined a gym and have been hitting it hard. my body aches afterwards. no pain, no gain. this site gets me jacked. congrats to all of you who have kicked some serious ass. I can't wait to join you.
