SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
Rovobay replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was in the hospital for less than 30 hours. I came out of surgery in pain but is was managed quickly. I was up walking the hallway 2 hours after surgery. slept a lot that first day. comfortable night. I actually went 6 hours without any pain meds that first night. x-ray next morning showed no leaks and got discharged before noon. glad to be home with my family. trying to get all my liquids in. I really don't want to get dehydrated and end up in the hospital. -

I thought I would start a thread with a timeline that I can reference back to as I go through this life changing event. Outside of this community, I have chosen to only share this with my wife. I have battled the belly bulge since I was a young kid. I was physically active, but always large. I managed to get to my lowest weight when I was in the Peace Corps (213#) however, since my return, the weight came back up. I yo-yo dieted over the years and neglected my health. I went 5 years without seeing a doctor, mostly because I didn't want to hear, want I already knew..... lose weight! I just turned 35, my wife is pregnant with our second child and is due in November. I guess all of these things were a wakeup call. my uniforms were getting smaller and I refused to buy a larger size. enough is enough. by happenstance, I found this website, which led me to the revelation that wls was covered through my insurance, blue cross blue shield federal employee program. Found all the requirements to get approved for surgery and started hitting it hard. First step was to find a new PCP since my other 2 are no longer around (one died, one retired). Today August 11, 2014, my wls office is submitting my papers for approval. I am the most nervous I have ever been. I have jumped through so many hoops to satisfy all the requirements, and now I wait. here is the timeline of events thus far. Thanks Bariatric Pal for all your knowledge, advise, and kind words. I will continue to add to this as my journey continues. 5/14/14 Joined Bariatric Pal Forum 5/22/14 found and met with new PCP who recommended and referred me for WLS 6/10/14 welcome group meeting, EKG, Blood work 6/12/14 meeting with NUT and NP (1st month of medically supervised diet) 6/24/14 Meeting with Psychologist 6/25/14 REE metabolic testing (metabolism is slow 81% of expected expenditure) 6/26/14 meeting with PT 7/7/14 consultation with Dr. Valerie Halpin 7/7/14 sleep study (no sleep apnea) 7/18/14 Upper Endoscopy (found out, have GERD.... never thought I had any problems with reflux) 7/18/14 meeting with PT and NUT (2nd month of medically supervised diet) 8/8/14 meeting with PT and NUT (3rd and final month of medically supervised diet) 8/11/14 Doctors office submitting paperwork to insurance for approval. (now I wait to hear back from insurance)

Did BCBS Federal approve protein shakes from insure nutrition?
Rovobay replied to Rovobay's topic in Insurance & Financing
Doctor's office signed the script this morning and was faxing back to insure nutrition. I am also hoping that I will get scar cream and multi-Vitamins too. That is weird the someone gets approved with BCBS Federal while someone else with same insurance does not..... anyone else -
only 20 more HOURS until I am in the hospital for my VSG. Getting things ready at home. I am stoked. not nervous at all. Still working on getting insure nutrition and my insurance to cover shakes, scar cream, and Vitamins. I have BCBS federal. Talked to Dr.'s office this morning, they said they signed the script and sent it back!!!

I can't wait! only 39 hours to go!!! Sept 10. tomorrow is all liquid diet. I am not nervous at all. I will not allow it! positive from here on out!!! happy and excited for you all. congrats on those who have already had their surgery. -
Operation is in less than 48 hours!!! I have been too busy to think about it. Huge party at our house yesterday. It was a baby shower/bbq. lots of friends and family in attendance. I stuck to the meal plan pretty good. no cupcakes for me! or beer!!! At the end we had a ton of leftover food and I was filling up boxes and bags for people to take all the unhealthy foods like chips and dips. tomorrow it an all day liquid diet. wonder what my last meal will be before I can't eat solids for the next few weeks? Probably leftover salmon... yum. Last day at work today (for next 2 weeks). Keeping everything private. lots to do. take care all of you!

I need to be at the hospital at 5am. The time is almost here!!! I am excited. Feeling optimistic that I will heal just fine and start kicking some weight loss ass!!!

Highly considering Sleeve Surgery .. Any takers on their experience? :)
Rovobay replied to asolma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week away from surgery. This site has been a HUGE help to me. I have been reading and preparing and getting motivated from all the wonderful success stories on here. You found your best tool for information and motivation right here on bariatricpal. I know others will share their stories with you. experience thus far has been awesome. I chose a great program and can't wait for the future. -
@@mt_hi_liner great work. 318 in May down to 240 today? awesome!!! I started at 320 in June. Op next week (Sept 10.)

You all kiss ass. I can't wait for that time to come. I know I have saved lots of clothes from over the years, but I want those to be too big too!!! so one of my tipping points was busting a couple pairs of work pants that got too tight, now a week before surgery and only down 15 pounds, they are loose and comfortable! can't wait to shred those pounds!!!
