If I loose any more weight I will loose monthly income. Very frustrated
Colleen C replied to lark60's topic in Rants & Raves
For sure find another therapist. Throwing meds is not always the best option. Why have you not applied for disability? It is something we have paid into to have for times like this. It is ridiculous to have to scrape by that close monthly that you are so stressed over it. If you can't work, then that is what disability is for, apply. Good luck, Colleen -
Rollercoaster month
Colleen C replied to JustWatchMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have been through so much. Divorce is hard even when your happy to be out of it. Just one day at a time for now. There will be happiness to follow in leaps in bounds but also challenges too. Meanwhile the unknown with the band... The first thing that came to mind is if you could delay your appointment a week or two to see if you feel differently with a little more time rather than no fill for several weeks? I hope this is your new beginning and your soul fills with an abundance of happiness ad success. Good luck, Colleen -
Ok, will see you on the other side! Colleen

Happy Birthday, BariatricPal!
Colleen C replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you for this site and for it not being filled with annoying ads. This helps so many of us. -
I agree with labwalker. It is just like when you go to the doctor overweight, everything is blamed on being obese no matter what it might be. the band is an area of confusion apparently. Insist. Heck, I would just show up at the bariatric doctor if they dont call back quick enough.

10 wks pregnant and have Q's?
Colleen C replied to roxie1705's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Oh wow, CONGRATS! I have had 4 children, none with the band. Try to remember to continue to eat healthy. It does not help the baby or you to use this time to eat carefree. Plus it would be awesome to track your success for the many woman who become pregnant while on the band in this group. I never felt better than when I was pregnant, I hope the same for you. So excited for you. Colleen -
I wish you success! Good luck tomorrow, I hope it all goes well. As for the pre-op diet, Now that it is over, I am glad I did it for the two weeks, nothing but shakes, broth and SF Jello. It was so hard but dropped over 20 lbs so to me it ended up helpful. I would not have said that in the middle of it though while going through the detox/withdrawals. It was so hard. Please keep us all posted on your surgery and success! Colleen

It does not sound like permanent weight. I bet when they figure out and correct what is causing it that it will go right back down.

I NEED to hear success stiries from long time banders!
Colleen C replied to unsupersizeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are unlimited horror stories with all the surgeries. I was newly banded June 20th and I am thrilled with it. I have been working on this for 6 weeks and down 40lbs without any problems. The pre-op diet was killer for me though coming down from eating anything I wanted to what I need to loose weight. Most (not all) band problems come from human error. I think the statistics other than our own fault are like 3% or something like that. Make sure if you pick the band to pick a surgeon with loads of positive results. That can make all the difference and then stick to what they tell you. Good luck, Colleen -
Good grief, no wonder your stressed out. I can understand. It is going to take a little time for them to figure it out. Try to not get to beside yourself since it isn't like you ate it onto yourself. Something must be really off. Hopefully it will go away as fast as it came. I can't help you but know we are all here to support you. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Colleen

Frustrated with surgeon
Colleen C replied to redhead87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do they stay open late enough to go after school? I would tell the staff again and if that doesn't work tell the doctor. Many times the doctor can work out what the staff can not. Colleen -
Extra skin removal and boob lift ... ?
Colleen C replied to CherieRyde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
None of us know what will happen since there are so many different people with their own experiences. Try to slow your mind down, it is enough to process working on the weight loss let alone future problems that may or may not arise. I understand the mind wonders but try to relax and just take care of right now. The rest will work out, it always does, somehow. Good luck to you with continued success, Colleen -
It is normal to feel bad, you are swollen. Give yourself time, right now it is time to rest and heal from your surgery. Keep getting up and walking around even if it is only in the house and stay hydrated. Small meals. Soon you will be on your way and feeling better. Colleen

Oh, lol At one your right, awe. You have no one to help or he just wants you? It is hard being a momma sometimes. Don't let yourself feel guilty. This is for you but also for him and this is temporary that you can't pick him up. He will not remember it and will only know the healthy momma that is in the making. Stay positive and again, NO GUILT, this part doesn't last.

I think all of us forget how big of a deal this drive thru surgery is. We get to go home but our bodies need TLC. Use this time, spoil yourself (without food, lol) and just heal. It takes a little time and putting yourself first. I had to make it clear to my 4 daughters that it was all about me for a change. It worked, they were great. xo Colleen

I would just not let the water hit the incisions/bandages. The more you shower will probably make them come off faster.

Mine was 2nd day with the 3rd day following then it started to get better each day. Make sure to walk every chance you get. I walked all over my house often. Drink as much Water as you comfortably can. This does get better, Colleen

Headache and Liquid Diet
Colleen C replied to astalsby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long after approval do you have to wait for surgery? Do they include after care with the fills and such? That is awesome and you were lucky to be chosen. You can do it but it is not easy. Weight loss surgery is only part of this journey. You have to go through a lot and learn why you over eat and work on that too so it is mentally and physically challenging. Right now you are in the withdrawal stage and to me that is the worst part. -
Chewing gum/ fizzy drinks
Colleen C replied to romana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although some people do gum is same as why not to use straws, because it adds air to the stomach. Gum also suppose to stimulate our appetite. Fizz, stretch the pouch. Can you imagine if you swallowed it while being banded? Not sure that would go down too good. -
Headache and Liquid Diet
Colleen C replied to astalsby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I was banded on June 20th with a 2 week pre-op diet along with my hubby. -
Headache and Liquid Diet

What is required of you for the study? Is this while working with the surgeon or on your own? Is this just to qualify, and how long? If you feel up to it explain. Colleen -
Headache and Liquid Diet
Colleen C replied to astalsby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of us understand because we went through this too, the pre-op diet is so hard! Your body and mind is going through withdrawals. Sounds a little crazy but it is true. Concentrate on getting through the day and soon it will be over. Baby steps... Sheer willpower to get the surgery will get you through this and keep reminding yourself this part is temporary. To me, it got so much easier after surgery, especially when you get to full food choices. You need to do this to shrink your liver and the bonus is you will loose weight and be on your way to the new you. Use this site for support, to cry, complain, willpower, encouragement or anything you need. That is what it is here for and why the rest of us are here. TMI ALERT: A few times on my pre-op when I could not stand it anymore I would take a bite of something and chew it up and spit it into the garbage. It helped me. I m not sure that is for everyone but it worked for me. Please know, we are here for you and been where you are right now. You CAN and WILL succeed. Good luck to you, Colleen -

SURGERY ON JULY 22nd
Colleen C replied to MarvyMimi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it makes sense to be excited and nervous! I think no matter how much we want it, there is still a tinge of worry that all will be okay. I am recently banded and very happy about it. Getting through the pre-op diet and surgery is the hardest part so far for me. The post op diet isn't horrible but it it AWESOME when you get to make your own food choices. It is amazing how little I eat and have not even got a fill yet. The best part is I am not hungry and feeling like I am suffering/starving. I eat less because I want to and can. Soon the hunger monster will leave you too, it is such a divine blessing. Good luck, keep us posted. Colleen -
It is normal to me because I recently went through it too. I actually gained weight the day after the surgery, 4lbs I think it was. I was not happy at all and then couldn't loose any for almost two weeks. Then to my surprise the last two weeks it has been coming off on a good basis. I was banded June 20th. When I had complained to the doctors office they told me I was suppose to concentrate on healing not loosing weight in the beginning. Don't sweat it, it will come off. Good luck and congrats! Colleen
