At 6 weeks post, how much was your loss total?
Pugmadkate replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 10 on the pre-op diet, sleeved July 1 and have lost 25 additional pounds for a total of 35 down. I'm thrilled! I just wish I could move down a clothing size, too. -

Ditching the protein shakes
Pugmadkate replied to crazzeescrapper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm five weeks out and ditched the Protein shakes two weeks ago. I just couldn't tolerate them anymore. Between eating eggs, chicken, Greek yogurt and tuna plus drinking low sugar/high carb milk I'm able to get in my daily protein. -

7 weeks out and not feeling well
Pugmadkate replied to Zane's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like maybe you need to go back to puree for a week or so to let your stomach heal. If solid food is bothering you after that, contact your doctor. Best of luck to you. -
I've lost 35 pounds and am still in the same size I started surgery at (26.) I'm frustrated about it, but at least I've not had to go shopping yet (i'm not a big shopper) I think you'll be fine with just the next size down on hand.

Follow your doctors orders pre-op and post-op. I followed everything to the letter and have had an amazing recovery. Of course, some people do that as well and have complications, luck does factor in. But it sure doesn't hurt to make your best effort as well. -

Why No Drinking 30 Minutes Before or After Eating?
Pugmadkate replied to Asdf12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drinking before a meal is fine. I am finding that I need to wait 45 minutes after a meal to drink Water again, which is fine. In very basic terms, you have a valve in the bottom of your stomach that shuts when it senses dense Protein. It's called the pyloric valve. You want what you eat to stay in your stomach for awhile to help digest and help with feeling full for longer. Once you start drinking water, that valve can open and "wash away" what you just ate. If your food has not digested long enough, that can start a painful process plus you won't feel full for very long. -

Social Life - Need Help from Veterans!
Pugmadkate replied to Myonlybattle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had a drink in 20 years and I'm no buzzkill! I just don't drink. My husband does and so do most of my friends. They're happy to have a built-in designated driver! Just tell people alcohol is not allowed on your new eating plan and let it go. I'm confused as to why you would need to wait five minutes between bites of food. I've never heard of that. I just eat my puréed food in front of my friends. I don't care who knows about my surgery, it makes life very easy. -
Looking for Tricare Prime Users
Pugmadkate replied to Bring It On's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted to add that I had several doctors offices incorrectly tell me that Tricare Prime would cover the sleeve but when I checked with Tricare, they were very clear that they do not cover it. I'm sorry. I know that's not what you want to hear and it is very frustrating. I was very lucky to be within driving distance (3 hours) of a military medical center that did the sleeve. -

Pugmadkate replied to Bring It On's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tricare Prime does not cover the sleeve by civilian providers. I've been through the process. It is not covered. I am the spouse of a retired Marine and had my sleeve done at Brook Army Medical Center. Unless you can get to a military medical facility that does sleeves, you will have to pay for it out of pocket. -

I switched from liquid to purée today. Never have a scrambled egg for breakfast and puréed chicken for lunch tasted so good! How is everyone doing?
-
40 oz isn't nearly enough even if you weren't working out. Aim for a minimum of 60oz plus more if you are working out.

Purée...how much?
Pugmadkate replied to Pugmadkate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, all! Sus, I was also sleeved 7/1 and I'm up to 80 oz of liquid a day. 20 oz isn't nearly enough. Have you spoken with your surgeon or gone to the ER for IV fluids? I'm worried about you. -

How much did you eat per meal when you started the purée stage? I've seen 1/4 cup, 2 oz, 3 Tablespoons and so on. My nutrition guidelines list acceptable foods but do not specify amounts. Any help is much appreciated!

Hope it went well!
