I live in the edwardsville area, but work in St. Louis at Mercy Hospital. Had my surgery in Washington, Mo. Had surgery the 7/14-- eating solid food for a few weeks and has been going great. I started this journey feb 6. I've lost 82 pounds since I started. 23 lbs on liquid preop diet. 35.6 lbs since surgery. -

Surgeon will let you know...if it's laparoscopic it won't be long after surgery. Also, no driving while on pain meds were my post op orders. I wasn't in a lot of pain do I was driving soon after I got home.

I feel the same way. I'm trying to figure out what I need to do. I just struggled with my decision to participate in the challenge. Why don't you pick a reasonable goal of 1-2 lbs/ week and anything above that will be icing on the cake. This early out from your surgery you will more than likely lose quicker because your eating liquids or full liquids... I'm now about seven weeks out and I know I did, but I did have the dreaded 3rd week stall and it lasted just about 2 weeks!!! It's insane that you can be eating so little (500-800 cal/ day) and not lose weight. Anyway one day 2wks after it started I dropped like 7 lbs in one day. And the stall was over and I'mBack to losing about a pound every other day . Just be patient when it happens (if it happens)-because you are not doing anything wrong it's just one of those things. Good luck!! I guess my point of this post is to be reasonable when setting your goal and don't set yourself up for failure and as a result discouraging yourself.

I took off 3 weeks and i work in NICU (no heavy lifting). Ask your surgeon for his recommendations. I wish I could have taken longer, i still didn't have my energy back at 3 weeks. I took off 6 weeks, but I had plenty of ESB to use. I'm ready to go back! I feel good. I work in the NICU, but I transport babies to procedures and sugery. I also do PICCs. I'm glad I took off that many weeks so I could be ready when I go back. -

I'm almost 6 wks out. I lost weight before surgery and about 20 lbs post op within the first 3 weeks and then stall. I was eating about that many calories and less than 50g carbs per say and then nothing... Just lost again for the first time yesterday. Increased my calories and carbs. Losing weight is a lot more complicated than calories in and calories out. I posted my stats above in another person's post. Good luck! -

That is what I have my fitness pal set on. Last few days I have not stayed within those parameters. Nothing specific and each day the macros have been different. Prior to that I was sticking to what I set my fitness pal to, but my carb Intake was more line 20/30 per day. Eating low carb not doing a damn thing for me... -

I was sleeved the same day as you... Also was in a stall... Sucked the scale kept going back and forth 1 pound and this morning I lost 3.6 pounds... Didn't believe it at first and probably won't until I weigh myself in the AM. I'm not sure what changed but prior to the last few days I was eating pretty low carb and my calories were 7-900 cal. With the scale not moving I was like WTF!!! And then the doubt set in. I lost a fair amount of weight prior to the surgery on my three month supervised diet and I kept thinking why did I do this if was losing weight better the other way. What happened in the last 4 days is I relaxed and ate. Got my protein in and didn't completely restrict my carbs. Calorie intake was 9-1200 cal/day. Also even though I was getting in the min water requirements I did increase that. All I really know is the body is stubborn and it's going through a lot of changes and sometimes it just does not want to let go of the weight even though you know it should be. SO FRUSTRATING And it's ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU WANT TO SCREAM!! My stats HW/ and first MD appoint FEB 6 360 lbs start of liquid diet 335 lbs SW 314 stall happened about 3 weeks out from surgery at 294 and fluctuated 294- 295lbs. Today 8/22 291lbs. I have been exercising 5-6 days a week! 30-45 mins cardio-- treadmill/elliptical/ walking with a friend and some light weight training. -
Pretty normal. Only thing going in is liquids

Shakes definitely become old and gross...I'm just starting my soft food phase, which I'm totally looking forward too, but I still have difficulty with protein so I needed to find something I could supplement food with. I found a recipe for a chocolate Peanut Butter shake that is awesome. At first it tasted like a frosty and then a Reese's PB cup. 1 cup of light almond milk 1/2 cup water 2 tablespoons of trunut peanut butter chocolate ( u could use PB2) All the ice you want... I blended in a bullet I drank this in 2 parts, but I don't have any problem drinking fluids, but it is yummy and now I can have son Liquid Protein -
Insurance coverage
vanessak8 replied to mchiasson68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you call to see if they covered WLS. I don't have them, but when my insurance started covering it it was clearly stated in our benefits package with the maximum out of pocket with it. If they cover it then they generally use the guidelines set by the NIH/AMA guidelines that define who would benefit from WLS and that is a BMI > 35 with comorbidities like HTN, diabetes, OSA or a BMI > 40 without comorbidities.
