    Holiday Challenge!

The stats on when it stops are way more vague, probably because it's varies from person to person. Some things I've read say it's around month 7 or 8??? I hope so... When did it stop for you after you had your gallbladder removed? I have only experienced this one other time and it was after having my third baby and when they told me it wasn't permanent I quit worrying about it and I don't remember when it stopped.

    Holiday Challenge!

No I'm not sure how long it will last. My started with vengeance last month (right on schedule). My hair dresser has had other clients that have had one type of weight loss surgery or another and we all experience it and she said it always grows back. As for what the other poster said... I'm am not so sure that it's because of the weightloss... My micro nutrients are better than ever and I get between 900-1300 cal with the average being 1100-1200/ a day. My protein intake is well above 60 grams. My body has what it needs and my iron levels which are also important to hair health was well in the normal range before and since surgery. Having 3/4 of your stomach removed is traumatic to your body no matter how well your recovery went... It is the the trauma that cause exponentially more of your hair follicles to go into a resting phase which is when they typically fall out. Normal is an 80% active (hair growing) 20% resting (hair shedding) ---after the surgery the ratio skews more in the resting phase than is normal hence the increase in hair loss. Every article I've read specifically relates it to the trauma of the surgery now if you have prolonged hair loss without new growth that is a whole other issue and is more than likely related to your body not getting enough of what it needs ie protein and iron. It makes sense if you are not getting enough protein that your body would succumb to hair loss since hair is all protein but non essential.

    Holiday Challenge!

I had surgery 7/14... My hair is also shedding, but it's only temporary telogen effluvium is the term and it's caused by the stress of major surgery... It started the day you had surgery. When your hair started shedding 3-4 months later it's because that is when the new hair started to push the old hair out if it's follicle. Hair loss can be further aggravated by low protein and iron levels, but that is a whole other issue. I too am distressed by the hair loss don't get me wrong... Even though I know it's just temporary it's still difficult to have hands full of hair is your hand and on the shower floor. I experienced this once before right after I had my third son ( pregnancy and birth can precipitate this type of hair loss ) that was 12 years ago and it returned to normal. I don't know about your eyesight issue not having any of those types of changes. Good luck

    Going back to work

I'm a nurse in big level three NICU. My surgeon always asks for the full 6 weeks in your FMLA papers, but if you are feeling up to it and want to you can go back after 3 weeks. HelI I tacked on another week of vacation time and was off work for almost 9 weeks because of how my 12 hour shifts landed. It was nice I haven't been off work that long since maternity leave, which was almost 13 years ago. I felt great right after surgery except for the first day so I took the time to get a routine down and by the time I went back to work I was eating solids again. My job is strenuous and I work for a company that you accrue sick time and I was maxed and needed to use it... so I say if you have those options take it and use the time to focus on yourself.

How'd your surgery go? Did Dr. Hawver do you surgery? She was my surgeon. I had surgery in July. I am down 70lb since surgery and 112 since February of this year.

(Level was 15, low normal is 30, my level now 58) Bariatric multi Biotin B-complex B-1, it's not in the complex and I was on the low side of normal when I just had my labs checked otherwise they were all great. .
  9. @finediva-- I can definitely eat a whole cup which is 8 ounces. I do feel the restriction, but I defiantly believe you have to eat to lose. I eat pretty regular when I'm off usually every 3-4 hours. When i am at work I eat three meals. The last one when I get home or in the car( I pack something) usually at 8-830 pm. I am a nurse in a NICU so I'm pretty busy and I work 12 hours 7-7. I also work out 4-6/ week. I do 45 mins of cardio. I use an app that does interval training. I also do at least one class a week that is strength/cardio combined. I also do some upper body weights at home. I don't always make the best choices, but I don't want to live a life where I'm always denying myself either. I have teenagers in my house hence the pizza rolls and I make killer homemade biscuits and gravy so I had a little. The old me would have are half the pizza roll bag and 3 biscuits loaded with gravy. I have not had much sweets. I did share a piece of pumpkin pie with my husband and a luncheon we attended together.

  12. I have lost a total of 105 lbs -- 61 since surgery. I eat between 1000-1200 cal/ day. When I Was eating fewer I lost slower. My carb intake is 75-125/ day. I eat Vegatables, fruit, and some low carb bread options. Did you not have to see a dietician? My surgeon never gave me a cal range just a portion size 1-1 1/2 cup at a time. Food and calorie came from my dietician, which I saw 3x prior to surgery and once since. The dietician would like me to eat between 1000-1200. It is working for me...earlier in my journey I was eating 600-900 cal and I stalled or only lost. .5-1 pound in a week, but now I'm losing 3-5 lbs/week.
  13. I stalled for three weeks right after my 2 week follow up appoint. I haven't had one since and I'm almost 16 weeks post op. Not eating is not the answer. I actually increased my food intake and started losing again and ever since. That stall happened Aug 4th until aug 25th-- hovered between 296-295. Today I weighed 254
  14. I started in feb. 2014. I had surgery July 14-- I lost 45.5 pounds HW-360 liquid diet wt- 335 SW- 314.5. I had to the liquid diet for 2 weeks. I'm now just 2 day shy of 16 weeks post op and I weight 254.

    Ok hope this helps!

Fruit definitely works... I realized a few days ago that I hadn't went and that my water intake had not been at my min... I ate a serving of grapes and a little later and apple. I went but it was painful. For me it's not getting enough water that starts the constipation problem.

    Ok hope this helps!

I have never had issues going.... Except right after the liquid diet phase post surgery I started going infrequently, which as a person who went 1-2X/day it was freaking me out even though I was told it would happen. However, I'm now back to being regular...although a new regular...every 1-2 days and they are healthy. I make sure that I get a min 64 ounces of water. On the few occasions that I have missed my water intake I've regretted it. It makes me so constipated!!! I also get fiber in my food. I have not cut out fruits and veggies. I also drink a green smoothie made in a bullet 1-3X/ week which keeps all the fiber in. I also use some low carb bread products like healthy life bread and tumaro's tortillas, which have a lot of fiber. I also like the Kellogg's fiber/protein bars sometimes I eat one a day, but not always. I don't know if they make it anymore, but at some point I bought 3 boxes of individual packets of Splenda with fiber in them. So whenever I need a sugar substitute I add those. I take them with me everywhere just in case. I also exercise 5-6 days a week and that also will help keep you regular.
